“Great Boutique Rome Hotel”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

We recently spent 5 nights in Rome with our teenage kids and my mother. The fantastic rooms at Babuino 181 were spacious, clean and very well done. We have seldom enjoyed so much space in the heart of a large city. The quality and appointments in the rooms were equal to any 5 star hotel we have stayed in throughout the world. The hotel's location near the Spanish Steps is convenient to all of the best attractions in Rome. The staff were fantastic and always going out of their way to help with whatever need we had. The rooftop lounge was the perfect place to relax after a long day of exploring the city. We would recommend Babuino 181 to anyone looking for a wonderful boutique hotel in the heart of Rome.

We stayed a few nights in the Moncada Suite at Babuino 181 at the end of June and would like to affirm all the glowing praise bestowed upon this haven of cool comfort in the Eternal City. The thoughtful touches, such as ample storage, desk space, bed reading lights, soothing interior colors, free Wi-Fi, robust air conditioning, soundproofed windows, blackout shutters and a delightfully useful travelers’ guidebook make this an oasis of rejuvenation after each day’s excursions in the summer heat.

The Moncada Suite is located across the street from the main hotel, reception and rooftop breakfast and bar lounge. The twelve rooms and suites in this annex are accessed by elevator off of a private, secure entry. Although not an enormous room, the high ceilings and loft of the Moncada Suite deliver a sense of graciousness and drama. The loft couch was modified before our arrival with a comfortable mattress to become a bed for our teen-aged daughter, who enjoyed her own television, desk and easy chair. Street noise was not an issue for us, even though this fourth-floor room overlooked Via del Babuino, a narrow but principal one-way street connecting the Piazza di Spagna with the Piazza del Popolo.

One of the great pleasures of this neighborhood is its central location to many of the City’s popular historic sites and shopping areas. There are countless restaurants offering a variety of menus in the immediate area. Their outside tables share the narrow alleys and streets with both pedestrians and the occasional plodding taxi or dashing Vespa providing entertaining venues for people watching on classically Roman summer evenings.

One street removed from the hotel, running parallel to Via del Babuino and bordering the hillside that marks one edge of the Borghese Gardens, is the Via Margutta, home to a sister property hidden away in a private courtyard. This quiet, charming backstreet with numerous art galleries, a couple of good restaurants and verdant terraced apartments was home to the fictional Joe Bradley in the movie Roman Holiday, as well as Federico Fellini and other artists who collectively called this corner of the metropolis home.

Great Location, super helpful staff, hotel is beautiful. Can't say enough. We stayed in a Classic Suite which was fabulous, it was very spacious, it was my husband and I and our 3 1/2 year old, there was a bed for her that worked perfectly and still gave us more than enough room.

We stayed at Babuino 181 for 4 nights and it truly felt longer.
We booked a Classic Suite (202) and were so glad we did. The room was spacious, well furnished and the air-conditioning was a welcome respite from the heat.
The staff were amazing in helping us with restaurant bookings and advice on Rome's sights.
The roof top terrace was incredible. Breakfast was fantastic having hot and cold selections...and the coffee (espresso) was out of this world. Sunset Aperol Spritz's on the terrace was a beautiful way to enjoy Rome's atmosphere.
Would highly recommend Babuino 181...we will certainly be back!!

We have stayed in a variety of hotels in Rome, but Babuino 181 is by far the best. It is a small boutique hotel, with contemporary, minimalist furnishings and a wonderful roof top bar and breakfast area. The staff were most attentive, providing recommendations for dinner, making reservations and arranging taxis when needed.

When you check in you receive a "Roman Notebook" which has been prepared by the owner, outlining places to shop, eat and visit in the area. This notebook was invaluable in helping us select where we wanted to eat each night.

Located near the Spanish Steps, the hotel is very central and in a fun part of the city.

This hotel was perfect for me an my Girlfriend who went to rome for long weekend. We stayed 2 nights at Babulion 181 and really enjoyed it.

The Deluxe Room was spacious contemporary and really well laid out.

It's location was near loads of the main sites, we never took any taxis and walked everywhere.

Breakfast on the terrace was simple and tasty.

I spent 21 days in Italy, where I stayed at 7 different 5-star hotels, and this was by far my favorite. It's not decadent or ostentatious like the older, established hotels, where you feel wasteful for the amount of unnecessary pomp. Instead, this is an uber contemporary, elegant, loft-like hotel with just the right amount of space, cleanliness, amenities, and atmosphere. Every item was extremely comfortable without being unnecessarily excessive - from the large shower head to the room-darkening shutters & drapes, to the fast wifi (very important!), to the free bottles of water and the TV remotes that come with easy-to-understand directions for international travelers (with instructions for how to view in English).

Best of all, the entire staff was overly friendly and helpful - from the front-desk and concierge, to the rooftop restaurant servers, to the housekeeping attendants. The laundry was reasonably priced compared to the other hotels I stayed at in Italy, and the overall value is unmatched. It's like staying at a private loft in the prime district of a city - I'll definitely stay there again and highly recommend it to everyone traveling to Rome.
