“A Pleasant Stay but Room for Improvement”
Reviewed 22 November 2012

We spent just one night in this hotel, prior to our cruise, and chose it based upon its positive reviews and convenience to the Termini. Arriving at the hotel early afternoon, we stayed there until our departure the following morning, as we were exhausted from an early morning flight, and we had visited Rome on a few previous occasions, so felt no burning need to go and explore.

We had a pleasant balcony room overlooking the street below. Room decor was modern & tasteful with a mainly neutral colour theme. The bed was on the firm side, but that was to my taste, and overall it was comfortable, although ideally I would have preferred more than one pillow each. The pillows provided were comfy, however. The bed was covered with pristine white cotton bedding.

The bathroom was fantastic - modern decoration, tiled throughout and clean and immaculate - all of the grout was white and pristine! However it was a little strange how close the bidet is to the toilet opposite. The shower closet was great, and there was also a separate bath with shower over. However we felt it was a little penny-pinching that management only provided one loo roll. Without exception, in every other hotel we have ever stayed in, a spare loo roll is provided. Spares may have been available on request from reception had we asked (we ended up using travel tissues we had brought), but the point is that you shouldn't in fact NEED to call reception to ask.

The toiletry and miscellaneous vending machines were a great idea - an opportunity to purchase, at a reasonable price, anything you have forgotten or might need. The wine vending machine was an even better facility - bottles of wine at the cheaper end ranged from €5-7, half bottles were also available at €3.50. Bottles of champagne, alcopops & beer were available too.

The roof terrace was pleasant, but we had to shift position when a group of smokers arrived - perhaps there was a no-smoking section which we may have missed.

The internet speed was awful, which was very disappointing as my husband was relying upon it in order to carry out some last-minute work projects before embarking our cruise. Aside from Sky News, there were no English speaking TV channels.

The room was awfully hot at 25oC and it was much cooler outside - I asked my husband to call reception to find out if there was air conditioning, and if so, where it was located, but in the end he did not bother. I was glad that we were able to leave the balcony doors open.

The wardrobe was not wide enough - we had to swing our garments to face us before closing the wardrobe door - which was a bit strange but not a major problem as we were only staying one night before departing for our cruise. For travellers with lots of clothes to hang, it could prove an annoyance.

Don't rely on the room toiletries provided - in our room, there were two small bottles of bath foam provided, plus one shampoo, which was poor quality and left my hair in a tangled mess. No conditioner, and no shower gel. I actually broke my comb trying to drag it through my hair. A lesson learned, from now on I shall always bring my own toiletries regardless of the extra luggage weight added.

The blue 'Hotel IQ' logo mounted on our room wall looked slightly incongrous against the neutral decor (a nice art print might have been more attractive to look at) but I guess they feel the need to stamp their corporate identity on each room, in case any of the guests happen to forget where they are :-)

Room Tip: Ask for a room which has a window overlooking the street - not the 'internal courtyard'.

Dear guest,

We would like to start by thanking you for giving us your feedback on our hotel. We are glad to know that your stay was overall pleasant and that you enjoyed our unique features such as the vending machines and our modern and functional decor.

There are just some minor observations you make that we will take the opportunity to clarify.

We do provide more than one toilet roll per room. Upon making-up of the room, the housekeeper leaves a new toilet roll on the holder and a spare one on the toilet holder stand. Although the stand is not immediately next to the toilet, it is located underneath the sink and it is easily visible. However, and as far as we could understand, in the specific room where you stayed the visual can be blocked by the towel rail, if there are towels hanged. In any case, we also provide a kleenex dispenser in the bathroom so our guests wouldn’t need to use their own tissues.

Being the roof-terrace an open area, guests are allowed to smoke in there, as well as the designated smoking areas (sign-posted balconies) on each floor. All other areas in the hotel, as well as the rooms, are stricly smoke-free.

As we have mentioned in a previous reply, the air-conditioning system we have in place in our hotel cannot be set-up to operate on both hot air and cold air contemporarily, which means that we are unable to change individual room temperatures, but only the general system can be set for cold or hot air. From the 15th November on to the first week of March, the air conditioning is off for cold air, so we couldn’t possibly set your room for anything less than 22° C, as much as we would have liked to ease your discomfort. However, the windows in the rooms are all functional and can be opened to balance room temperature, especially when is cooler outside.

We are sorry to learn that you encountered some problems with your internet connection; although this was initially designed having in mind the average needs of our guests, such as checking emails or browsing the web, we have recently upgraded our internet connection and we would hope that issues as the ones you report are less frequent or nonexistent.
We were surprised that you couldn’t find any English speaking channels other than Sky News, as our satellite also broadcasts BBC World News, CNN International, CNBC, NHK World, Al Jazeera, CCTV News, France 24 and Russia Today, all in English. Maybe there was a problem with the receiver in your room that could have been easily and quickly fixed if you would have let our Front-Office know.

When designing the spaces and room features in iQ Hotel, two of the things we had in mind were functionality and simplicity; we didn’t want big wardrobes or desks taking up space that could be used for living. Also, after research, we found out that the average period of stay for tourists in Rome is 3 to 4 days, therefore the clothes storage system was designed to fit the amount of clothes needed for that period of time. However, for guests with extra luggage, we have a secure storage room, where one can leave their bags until departure day.

When it comes to the complimentary toiletries, all double rooms are equipped with 2 bath foams, 1 shampoo, 1 shower cap and 2 soaps, that are replaced when finished. Naturally, everyone has different expectations when it comes to shampoo, but we have tried to have a product that would satisfy the majority of our guests needs. For alternative products and different brands, we advise our guests to check the vending machines out, as they can find some toiletries there, as well.

Again, we would like to thank you for your review and we look forward to welcome you again to iQ Hotel – Roma very soon, and hopefully for more than a night.

We spent two nights at the 4 star IQ Roma hotel and absolutely loved it. The hotel is located on a quiet street in the Termini area, near the Opera House, and a block from a metro stop.
The decor is modern, the rooms were good size--especially for a European hotel and immaculately clean, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. What impressed us most was that the hotel didn't try to rip you off for purchases such as water (.70 cents) coca cola (1 euro) or a bottle of wine (6 euro). The breakfast was an excellent buffet @$10 euro. There was even a self service laundry and a great rooftop terrace.
It was a real pleasure to stay here and we would definitely recommend it to anyone headed to Rome. We will return, as well.

While the room is efficiently small (as I've heard most are in Rome), this hotel has everything you need and more including great service and modern amenities. Even a beer and wine machine that had a lot of selection in both split and full bottles and the price was the best value. Near Termini and Republican Piazza and plenty else. All for about 150 Euro's less than many places with worst TripAdvisor ratings.

Room Tip: Good accomodating friendly front desk

My wife and I stayed three nights at this wonderful hotel, and would eagerly stay there again. In addition to all the adjectives in the review title, the hotel earned its name with some unusual features like a vending machine that sells full bottles of wine, and a coin washing machine that has soap included. Our room was adequately sized and was quite clean. Maybe if we stayed longer we could have found a negative to comment on.

Room Tip: Our room facing the inner courtyard was nearly silent all night long.

This hotel proved the perfect base for our Rome holiday. It was well-priced and in a perfect location to allow us to explore the city by foot. The room and en-suite were spotless and all staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful - their restaurant tips were spot on. The large 24 hour roof terrace was a perfect place to chill out after a long day of sightseeing and the vending machines were really useful and affordable!
Our room was ground-floor and we did suffer from noise from rubbish carts in the street outside in the early hours of the morning, but you can hardly blame the hotel for that.
Useful to know - the room has an empty mini-fridge for you to fill yourself should you wish and there's a handy Spar a very short walk away on Via National where you can stock up on snacks etc. There was also a great Irish bar just a couple of streets away.
Would definitely recommend this hotel to family and friends.

Room Tip: Ground floor may suffer from outside noise.

My husband and I spent almost a week at this comfortable, clean hotel. We loved the contemporary accommodations, various vending machines, free wi-fi, laundry services and roof top terrace with comfortable seating and a great view! The daily breakfast buffet was good, but got a little boring with not much variety offered in the menu daily. It pays to venture out to have breakfast and try something different. Staff were friendly and helpful when needed, and the tiny lobby bar was very nice also. The location is great, right off the Via Nazionale and within walking distance to everything you want to see in Rome. The rooms are very clean, and maid service efficient. Rooms in Rome are very small and these are no exception for those of us used to American hotels. The AC was a bit paltry, but that is also something to expect in Europe. We kept our balcony open during the night for fresh air, but ended up hearing street noise in the early morning from delivery trucks. Rooms facing the inner courtyard don't provide a good view but are likely quieter than those facing the street. Our room didn't have much of a view. Our King sized bed was very comfortable and the room had a small mini-fridge we used for bottled waters. The bathroom was a pleasant size, although the shower is very small and strangely designed so the water flow from the shower head points directly at the opening of the shower door. All-in-all a nice place to stay and we considered it a good value.
