OSTERIA Della VITE is one of the hidden gems of Rome. We have dined here twice whilst visiting Rome in September 2017 once for lunch and once for dinnet and both times the food and the hospitality has been fantastic.

We got swayed into going there by the guy in the street, telling us about the pasta made from scratch - so we went.

We were absolutely delighted that we did!

A special shout to our server, Rasel who served an excellent meal! Upon arrival, he brought us complimentary sparkling wine; very nice but neither of us drink it. He was a very prompt server and very kind!

Next came amazing garlic bread that actually looks like pizza with no tomato sauce and it was fabulous!

We ordered one dinner salad of a mixed veggie sort - it was clearly big enough to share!

We both had the homemade pasta - I opted for the ravioli which was delicious and large! Hubby had the fettuccini with boganese sauce and asked to make it arribiata (hot), they did and it was excellent! His portion was ginormous!

No negatives to this restaurant, we saw a few locals here so that was a good sign.

One obnoxious family let their two young girls scream which was completely annoying but not the fault of the restaurant! People can be so rude and just plain stupid!

Clearly a place to try out!!

So what we have here is a restaurant that on a sunny day lets it’s tables trip and stumble out onto the cobbled street. It isn’t amazing but it is good. You’re pretty jammed in close to other diners but can you blame them? they’re giving it their best shot. We found the service okay/good. The staff were friendly, moved tables around for us and seemed happy. The food was slightly overpriced for what it was but we were very hungry when we rounded the corner for a late lunch and I quite liked the feel of the place. We both had pasta dishes. Why not?

We visited, we were very disappointed! The food was mediocre at best - the service was over the top - the price well above local standards - and to be hassled about receiving a tip wasn't what we were expecting. By far our worst meal we have had in Italy so far. Be wary people - there are way better places to eat locally than this establishment!

This is a hidden secret – the place on the corner seems to get most of the business but you really should stop in here!!!! My mom and I ate here a few times while staying in Rome. It was our “local” spot right across from our apartment and we got to know the guys pretty well! Not only was the food good but the staff was fun to talk with and say hi to on a daily basis!! Great family atmosphere and fresh tasty food, I had the best filet here and I was traveling for a month!

Overall – great salads, yummy pizza and everything had it’s own flavor!!! I will say when the tables are outside it seems to have more business, and don't let it fool you if there aren't a lot of people! It is worth stopping in and enjoying a meal.

When I return to Rome I will stop by to say hello.

Ciao from California!
