A perfect example of a Roman family run restaurant. The night we were there there was a lively mix of locals and tourists, and the atmosphere, although noisy, was fun and friendly.
The menu is simple and prices are cheap: you can of course go for the option of pizza if you want, but they do serve some excellent Roman specialities like rigatoni con pajata and tripe Roman style.

This enormously popular restaurant on the Via Leonina in the heart of Old Rome specializes in true Roman cuisine. We have eaten there many times in past years and it never disappoints. This restaurant is extremely popular with locals and tourists alike. It opens for lunch and for dinner on the dot of 7:30pm and is full within 10-15 minutes anyone arriving after that is turned away until a table becomes vacant, so get there early. Wait staff are very professional and the owner keeps a close eye on proceedings.

Its walls are decorated with art of every description and period from the restaurant's opening. It is obvious that its owner is an A S Roma fan because there are no less than 2 Francesco Totti signed jerseys on display.

The food is magnificent and modestly priced. Excellent carafe or bottled wines are available. When you first sit down, freshly made bruschette are served without you ordering them. They do not appear on the bill either. Typical dishes are spaghetti cascio e pepe (with cheese and pepper), carbonara, tripe Roman-style, scaloppini in a white wine sauce. Spaghetti alle vongole (with clam sauce) and amatriciana are also first rate. The menu is not overly extensive but all the classics are represented.
Highly recommended.

My wife, another couple, our tour guide and myself had lunch at this restaurant.
My wife and I shared a half liter of the house red, delicious.
For our lunch, my wife, tour guide and myself had the pasta with pepper and cheese sauce. Outstanding!
The other couple had ravioli.
Everybody was happy with this place.
Recommended.

Nice food at really cheap prices.
The place is not far away from the Colosseum and is definitely worth your time.
I went there with my girlfriend and we paid around 10 Euros each for a pizza and a beer.
I recommend the pizza romana

I first heard about Vecchia Roma about eight years ago when my professor recommended it to me while studying abroad. I have been coming back ever since. I have only ordered primi (pasta), but they have all been delicious. It opens at 7:00 pm for dinner service (we got there around 7:30), by the time we left, there was a line out the door. We were greeted with bruschette on the house! The entire wait staff was very friendly. The prices are low which is another plus.
