This enormously popular restaurant on the Via Leonina in the heart of Old Rome specializes in true Roman cuisine. We have eaten there many times in past years and it never disappoints. This restaurant is extremely popular with locals and tourists alike. It opens for lunch and for dinner on the dot of 7:30pm and is full within 10-15 minutes anyone arriving after that is turned away until a table becomes vacant, so get there early. Wait staff are very professional and the owner keeps a close eye on proceedings.
Its walls are decorated with art of every description and period from the restaurant's opening. It is obvious that its owner is an A S Roma fan because there are no less than 2 Francesco Totti signed jerseys on display.
The food is magnificent and modestly priced. Excellent carafe or bottled wines are available. When you first sit down, freshly made bruschette are served without you ordering them. They do not appear on the bill either. Typical dishes are spaghetti cascio e pepe (with cheese and pepper), carbonara, tripe Roman-style, scaloppini in a white wine sauce. Spaghetti alle vongole (with clam sauce) and amatriciana are also first rate. The menu is not overly extensive but all the classics are represented.
Highly recommended.
