We booked to stay at the Althea Inn on our 4-day trip to Rome because of the great reviews on Tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. Alessandro is the perfect host and gave lots of advice on local restaurants and places to visit. Breakfast was delivered to our room every morning to be eaten on on our lovely private terrace, which was exceptional. The terrace was also a lovely place to have a welcome sit down and drink at the end of the day. The room was tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean.

There was also a minibar in our room, with prices that were certainly much lower than you would pay in any hotel that I have ever been to, which was also re-stocked daily with complimentary bottles of water. In fact Alessandro refused to take any money for any drinks that we had from the minibar.

The location is ideal and a little more relaxed than being slap bang in the centre of things but only a metro ride away from the rest of Rome or within walking distance of Trastevere, colosseum and many surrounding areas. There is so much more to be seen by walking around Rome but comfortable footwear is a must!

We would definitely recommend the Althea inn without hesitation and we cannot wait to return to Rome to continue our sightseeing and would definitely stay at the Althea Inn again.

A wonderful trip.

Please do not let the outside appearance deter you. The location is easily reached by train from the airport and perfect for the metro. The apartment was spotless, the breakfast delivered every morning by our charming host Allesandro was just what was requested and very enjoyable , but the private outside terrace was beyond welcome. We spent most evenings here resting our aching legs after spending memorable days exploring the sites (ensure comfy footwear!). Allesandro was helpful and provided all the information and suggestions needed to complement our stay in the Eternal City. Look no further we would not hesitate to recommend. Thank you Allesandro for your hospitality from the two English sisters celebrating a special birthday.

The Althea Inn lives up to the positive reviews on Trip Advisor. Alessandro was very accommodating and friendly. He recommended some local restaurants and gave us a guide book to use which was extremely helpful. We had a lovely little outdoor patio, but unfortunately it rained overnight on every night we stayed so we never actually got to eat breakfast out there because it was wet in the morning. Speaking of breakfast, Alessandro did a nice job with it. We especially loved the Nutella filled croissants on our first day. Fresh fruit was left for us during the second day while we were out. We had the middle room and I noticed in other reviews people commented that it was the smallest room. It was a little on the small side but it was still fine for us. The bed was very comfy. It would have been nice to have had a couple TV channels in English, but since we were in Italy I can't really complain. I would definitely recommend Althea Inn to others based on its value, location, and service.

Sitting eating our AMAZING breakfast on our own personal terrace on our last morning at the Althea Inn. Seriously couldn't asked for a better first experience in Italy! Alessandro was a fantastic host - full of local knowledge and very helpful. We arrived very early on our first morning just hoping to be able to drop our bags and come back, but Alessandro allowed us to change in another room and offered us breakfast before our own room was ready. Great location only 10 min train ride to the heart of everything! Spotlessly clean and just and just an easy place to be!!!!!

I recently stayed at Althea Inn during my 5 day break in Rome. The room, service, location and value for money were excellent and I would definitely recommend staying here.

The room is spacious and light with a large, comfortable bed and air conditioning. Other facilities include: wardrobe with a safe, hangers, an iron and board, a flat screen TV, a table and two chairs, a mini bar fridge at a very reasonably cost, a kettle etc. The bathroom is well decorated with a power shower and complimentary toiletries and towels. Finally there is the private terrace which is perfect to sun bathe or relax on during the evenings.

The service during my stay was great. The owner offered suggestions on where to visit, eat and how to get there. He was happy to accommodate changes to breakfast when asked and gave complimentary Prosecco and fruit during my stay. He even refused to accept payment for my use of the mini bar on check out-a very generous touch. Breakfast was brought to the room each morning at an agreed time and was consistent in terms of menu and good quality. One suggestion I would have is for the owner to provide a bigger menu to at least provide some variety to the breakfasts. Rooms were cleaned daily and bedding/towels replaced too between 10 and 12.30.

The Inn is not a traditional Bed and Breakfast but rather a penthouse appartment within a building that has been well converted into 3 double rooms. It is located to the south of the city centre, just off Via Ostiense in the Testaccio district. Easy to find with a little research. This area is not particularly touristy, more residential, and some may be put off by the graffiti on walls and shutters. However, I felt perfectly safe during my stay and when exploring the area.

There are covenient travel links with both the Metro (Pirimide) and Roma Ostiense train station a few minutes walk away. Metro tickets cost €1.50 enabling easy access to central Rome ( the Colesseum is 2 stops away) and beyond, whilst there are trains to the airport (€8.00) and other destinations including the beach at Santa Marinella (€4.00). You can easily walk to central Rome in about 30 to 40 minutes too.

Nearby there are many restaurants including La Fata Ignorante which is very highly rated on TA and worth a visit. There is a supermarket near the Inn (turn left outside the Inn), bars, cafes and two excellent delis (Eataly and Volpetti). Plus there are also some tourist sites in the neighborhood including: The Protestant cemetary, Pirimide and Palatine Hill.
