“Very nice and Comfortable”
Reviewed 13 October 2013

Althea Inn is a modern, well decorated, efficient and comfortable B&B. On the penthouse of a 6 floor building, Althea Inn is just a little off the beaten path,(2 subway stops from the Colosseum) which allows you to go out for dinner without the crowds or prices in the center of the City. The local restaurants that Alessandro recommended were excellent and we ate close by every night. Showers were excellent, beds very comfortable and the outside patio really adds another atmosphere. Alessandro was very helpful as well whenever we needed him like coming with us to help return our rental car and helping translate a the police station when we lost a wallet. Breakfasts were usually served on the patio and the presentation and food were wonderful. We found this location close to everything without the high price and we would definitely stay here again. Thanks Alessandro.

Room Tip: Our room was the largest with the largest terrace. Not sure of the name but ask for it.

Would just like to say what a pleasure it was to stay in this lovely apartment. Alessandro was very efficient in replying to our emails and was very helpful when we had to completely rearrange our visit to Rome from April to October. The journey from the airport via the train was very straight forward (no changes) and a 5 minute walk to the apartment which we also found without difficulty with directions from the website. The apartments are in a quiet residential street on the 5th floor and one of the main benefits was a very peaceful nights sleep in this bustling city. The apartment was nicely appointed, very clean and comfortable. It was nice to have breakfast on the terrace, brought to your room by Alessandro at a specified time and you could not ask for anything more. Also on Alessandor,s recommendations we made use of the local restaurants La Fata Ignotante and the Novecento which were both excellent (one down the same street and one down the adjacent street). The metro cost us 1.50 euros per journey into the centre and it was also very easy to use. We loved Rome but we only had 3 days, so we will have to return. Unfortunately the weather was a little unsettled (although it was still very warm) but you can always buy an umbrella! When you visit Rome you will see what we mean!! Jennifer and Graham

We really enjoyed staying here - at first when we walked down the road I wasn't sure what we had let ourselves in for, but Alessandro was super friendly, the room clean and the outside balcony a lovely space to start the day with breakfast. It was walking distance to the brilliant pizzeria remo, and close to the metro stop. Alessandro was great at finding out about things for us and recommended a really good restaurant just around the corner from his place.

The only thing that could have been better would have been clearer instructions when arriving by metro - when you come out the station turn left - we walked around the big roundabout a few times before finding our way!

Because so many people on Trip Advisor had described their positive experiences at Althea Inn, we decided to stay there. It was our first trip to Rome and we liked the idea of an elegant place, away from the hustle and bustle at a modest cost and with a host who would be a source of information. Well, Althea Inn was all of that -and more. We loved our room, the terrace, Alessandro's breakfasts, the Proseco as a welcoming gift, the fresh fruit as an afternoon snack, the neighborhood and the many restaurants within walking distance.

Rome was pretty good but we LOVED the Althea Inn!!!

Room Tip: Get a room with a terrace (they may all have terraces but it was hard to tell).

We stayed in the Althea Inn for 3 nights while in Rome and were very impressed by the lovely room as well as Alessandro's hopitality.

Even before we arrived, Alessandro was prompt in responding to our emails and providing tips on how to avoid queues during our short time in Rome, which proved invaluable as we breezed past the throng of people at the Vatican museum!

The room itself was faultless - clean, good-sized, well-managed and to top it off, it has a little private terrace where we could enjoy breakfast each morning. There is also a safe, and free wifi which may be small things but definitely much appreciated!

Breakfast was sent to our room each morning and we couldn't have asked for better - croissants, bread, fruit salad, ham, cheese and coffee.

Althea Inn is a 5-min walk to Pyramide, the nearest metro station which is 4 stops away from Termini, the main train station. It's also a 20-min walk to the Colosseum. There are off licenses, restaurants and bars nearby which are excellent. We highly recommend La Fata Ignorante and Enoteca. Bear in mind though that Althea Inn isn't located in the centre of Rome. That said it was easy enough for us to get around on buses and the metro.

Room Tip: Try to get one with a larger terrace.

We chose this Inn because it had justifiably had excellent reviews on Trip Advisor. Alessandro was extremely helpful before we arrived, booking restaurants for us, arranging a taxi collection at the airport and giving advice on tourist attractions. It is located in a residential area, 2 metro stops from Colosseum, and 2 minutes from a supermarket. The apartment is one of three on the 5th floor of a residential building. The terrace has been well planted with climbing plants to afford privacy from neighbouring apartments and is a lovely place to eat breakfast and relax in the evenings. However, if one were unfortunate to have poor weather, without use of the terrace, the apartment might seem a little 'cramped'. Also a word on the breakfasts. Alessandro brings the 'continental' breakfast in on a tray. You have to tell him the the day before what time you want it and just one small cup of coffee comes. If you are the sort that likes several cups of coffee at breakfast, you have to make the rest yourself using the room kettle supplied. Also, if you like to decide upon waking, what time you want breakfast, this system can be a little awkward.
Overall though, a great place.

We booked to stay at the Althea Inn on our 4-day trip to Rome because of the great reviews on Tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. Alessandro is the perfect host and gave lots of advice on local restaurants and places to visit. Breakfast was delivered to our room every morning to be eaten on on our lovely private terrace, which was exceptional. The terrace was also a lovely place to have a welcome sit down and drink at the end of the day. The room was tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean.

There was also a minibar in our room, with prices that were certainly much lower than you would pay in any hotel that I have ever been to, which was also re-stocked daily with complimentary bottles of water. In fact Alessandro refused to take any money for any drinks that we had from the minibar.

The location is ideal and a little more relaxed than being slap bang in the centre of things but only a metro ride away from the rest of Rome or within walking distance of Trastevere, colosseum and many surrounding areas. There is so much more to be seen by walking around Rome but comfortable footwear is a must!

We would definitely recommend the Althea inn without hesitation and we cannot wait to return to Rome to continue our sightseeing and would definitely stay at the Althea Inn again.

A wonderful trip.
