“Made our trip to rome”

Myself and my wife stumbled on this little gem of a restaurant. After 2 horrible experiences in other restaurants we were warmly welcomed in this fab spot by the owner and he's great team. The best fish restaurant ive eaten in anywhere in the world. So good we ate there twice!!

“Fabulous food, wonderful host”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 October 2013

Please don't be put off if the restaurant is quiet. The lighting is a little stark, but once inside you will not regret for a minute your decision. You will receive a lovely friendly welcome when you step inside. We thought the food was amazing!

We had the mixed starter to share which we both thought was some of the tastiest seafood we had ever had. It got better, Sea bream and monkfish for our main course, which we both really enjoyed. Followed by a sample of each dessert, all choices I would not normally have selected, however, this also did not disappoint. The cherry marmalade tart and the chestnut ice cream were a perfect finish to a lovely evening.

We are regular restaurant users and have eaten in some great places, this is right up there at the top of our favourites.

Loved the music, but maybe tone the lighting down a little.

Thank you.

“A surprise worth discovering”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 October 2013 via mobile

The restaurant outside does not give it the full picture. We took some risks and choose their specialities. it was nice and great portion, lacking some flavour. The staff was friendly and help us in making our choice. The big surprise was price at the end, very good value.

“Friendly service, great meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 September 2013

We went to the disappointing and touristy 'Gusto Pinto' the night before and were disappointed by their enormous menu and average food. We were slightly apprehensive about our meal at Il Golfo for fear of a similar experience but shouldn't have worried as it was fantastic. The menu was big enough to offer enough of a selection without being overwhelming and spreading itself too thin. The owner (I think) was friendly and enthusiastic and was very quick to recommend food and wine to us. He suggested we have the raw fish selection starter followed by the cooked fish selection starter then if we were still hungry he would help us pick a main. We sampled 12 (ish) different small bits of fish and they were all delightful, wonderfully presented and brought out one by one. We really liked the decor and ambiance of this restaurant and would definitely come here again if we were to visit Rome again.

“A great ristorante”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2013 via mobile

We loved this restaurant, but " found it" only on our last night ( of six) in Rome. Just around the corner from our hotel but previously passed by us as not many people there. What a shame! Specialising in seafood, with elegant, modern decore, spotless white linen, impeccable service and the best most subtle and freshest lemon tart I have ever eaten. Going back to Il Golfo (meaning panorama (of the sea)?), when we return to Rome.
