“The perfect little B&B in rome.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 September 2013

We started travelling again hence the late review.
we were quite worried about our stay in Rome as it was our first visit there.
Once we touched base with marina, her first email made us feel comfortable already.
She always had a smile, told us the right places to visit and the times. helped us with airport transfers. everything.
The rooms are clean, modern and comfortable, More like 4 star hotel.
While in Rome we did not take any kind of transportation except to and fro from the airport and that says a lot from the location. there is plenty to eat around and many places to drink. and the gelato under the Building is just fantastic.
Thanks Marina, you helped us with more ways than you should have but you did.

Room Tip: She server there danish pastries in her breakfast, They are awsomeeeeeee!!!!

We so enjoyed our stay at Maribell last time that in April we decided to go and visit Rome once again. After a long and tedious winter Rome was a dream come true: lovely warm weather, a soft breeze, trees in flower and people delighted to be out and about. The weather was perfect for al fresco dining and when walking around we already had to make sure to be walking on the shadow side of the road. Spring and autumn are the best times to be in the eternal city.

Maribell... what to say? It is like a home away from home and Marina was as always adorable and helpful, even pointing out some worthwhile sights of which we had never heard, e.g. Domus Romane at Palazzo Valentini (1), a virtual visit to a Roman Villa. Another 'Insider Tip' she gave (for those with a car) was the view one gets when looking through the keyhole of the door of the Seat of the Villa of the Grand Priory of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, their Roman seat, at the Piazza dei Cavalieri di Malta on the Aventino. Looking through the keyhole one sees (precisely centred) the Cupola of Saint Peter's Basilica, lighted at night. The square itself is different from all the others in Rome and has on the other side (of the Villa) the splendid Basilica of Saint Sabina, built on the site where her house once stood (near the Temple of Juno, protector and special counselor of the Roman state)

There is a need to book Maribell in advance, as it offers only two pleasantly and well appointed (big) rooms. This time we took the SIT shuttle bus from Fiumicino Airport and descended in Piazza Cavour which is about a 8-10 minute pleasant walk from Maribell. If tickets are booked online it's 5€, otherwise 6€. Exiting terminal 3, turn right and walk until you see the bus terminal. The SIT bus is usually the first one in line. The busses are clean and the ride is about 40 minutes. Transport-wise: the Lepanto underground (metro) stop is just around the corner from Maribell and fares are 1€ and are valid for 75 minutes. Within that time the ticket can be validated further times and can also be used on buses, trams and trains within the city's borders. Tickets can be bought in advance: day tickets on all transport are 4€ , a three-day pass is 11€ while a week-pass costs 16€.

Maribell is situated between two popular ice-cream places, with long queues of people waiting to buy their favourite taste. The Gelateria dei Gracchi ( to the right when exiting on to the road from Maribell) uses only fresh seasonal fruits, with no conservatives, colourings nor hydrogenated fats. Their pistacchio and zambaione ice creams are to be recommended.

When exiting on to the street and then going left and around the corner, there is Mondo Arancina that sells 'arancine' which are rice-balls the size of oranges that can be bought with different flavours and fillings. An arancina and an ice-cream to finish constitutes a hearty snack or lunch/dinner. Next to Mondo Arancina is a superb gelateria selling yoghurt ice-creams. Do not miss it!

Furthermore, there are three different places just 2-3 minutes walk from Maribell selling freshly baked pizzas which can be bought per cut, the size the customer wants (al taglio), with different toppings, and which can be heated up in an oven, then and there. Marina will make plates available for guests who wish to eat in.

Also, a 5-10 minutes walk from Maribell is the Billa supermarket (in the COIN). If after a busy day sightseeing one wants to spend a restful night in, or enjoy a relaxing bottle of wine, then there are enough pleasant and practical alternatives that allow one to do this.

I gave the sleep quality a 5* because the beds are super comfy. Just remember to keep windows closed till after midnight as the gelaterias attract the Roman crowd and they chat under the bedroom window. However, the efficient (quite silent) air-con requires that the window be shut anyhow...

What else to say but that we will be back, again. This visit has been the best one in 2013 and I still savour the sites, strolls and relaxation, thanks to Marina's experienced advise and pleasant stay.

(1) And now a bit more about the Domus Romane: an interactive digital archaeological ± 2 hr visit that is highly recommended. It not only brings to life this Roman Villa near Trajan's Column, but the high-tech digital overlay brings the whole place to life. Not only this, but there is a visual introduction to the Rome of the past and a world-class metropolis Rome indeed was! It is advisable to book well in advance via their website, as groups are of about 12 people at a time. The guide provides commentary and will respond to questions. There are different language groups, italian, english, french. If one keeps the underground (metro) ticket the price is 10€ instead of 11.50€. It is also a great way to spend a very hot afternoon inside, in the shade.

Room Tip: We loved the super-big room with the separate bathroom. However, for those wanting an ensuite, the o...

Maribell B&B was a great place to stay in Rome. Located in the beautiful and safe Prati district we had easy access to everything we needed. The B&B itself is located just one block North of Via Cola di Rienzo, a great street for shopping and cafes. The Metro stop 'Lepanto' is a 5 minute walk from the B&B and there are multiple bus lines which stop close by as well. All of this made sightseeing incredibly easy.

The area boasts some great restaurants (choices to suit any budget), cafes, and of course gelaterias for those ice cream cravings. 2 of the best gelaterias in the city are within a few minutes walk. The watermelon gelato is a must try.

We were a group of 5 and occupied 2 rooms. Both rooms were bright with big windows. Our rooms were impeccably clean and neat, with ample closet space and drawers for our belongings. Beds were very comfortable. We loved the high ceilings and the stained glass art which was in both rooms - the decor was very tasteful. Reading lights were on either side of the beds for night time reading/planning and we also had free WIFI access. We all slept really well at Maribell!

Breakfast was honey filled "cornetos" (croissants), yogurt, cereal, toast and juice. Your choice of espresso, cappuccino, coffee or tea was made to order by Marina, our host, herself.

Marina was very welcoming and helpful. She knows the area well and is informed. She had some great recommendations for restaurants and was helpful when we were planning our route to the airport. We were planning to take a taxi until Marina told us that there was a shuttle bus which went directly to the airport for only 5 euros.

I would not hesitate in recommending Maribell B&B and fully plan to stay again when I next return to Rome.

The location is excellent. The noise on Friday and Saturday evenings from the gelato below our window was terrible. This affected our stay because we were worn out because of lack of sleep. The noise didn't stop until after 1:30 am. Sunday evening was okay because the gelato closed earlier. The room was very clean and Mariana was very sweet. The breakfast was a little disappointing. We've stayed at B &Bs across Europe with full breakfasts. This was basically like a Continental breakfast which is served at hotels in the U.S. with yogurt, a pastry, juice and coffee. I would possibly stay here again but not if it included a Friday and Saturday night when the gelato is open until 1:00 am.

My friend and I stayed there less than a week ago. Marina was very accommodating, I have Celiac's and she provided me with Gluten Free food for breakfast. The BnB is located across the canal about 5-10minute walk to the main area where all the sights are. It's a good place to stay if you wish to get away from the tourist crowd late towards the night. The place was extremely clean, the room was rather large, and the bathroom was nice as well. Definitely recommend it!

We just spent one night, last June, at this nice b&b. As we only were in Rome for 36 hours (after cruising the Med) I choose this place primarly for it's location. A quiet area half way to the Vatican and half way to historic Rome. This allowed us to spent the first day around Vatican and second day in center of Rome only walking. We checked in at Mariana's place around 10.30 am and were able to leave our luggage right in our room. We choose the smaller room with en-suite bathroom. The room was perfectly maintained and clean and so was the bathroom. The shower, however, could be a challenge for some people as it appears to be very small, so take this in mind if you have to make a choice of room ( the larger room has a private bathroom - not en-suite) but with a full bath. Breakfast was very good (to italian standards) and with sufficient choices. Also Mariana helped us to make a choice of restaurant and, as we did not want to go far away, she made a reservation to "3 Q Quarti ristorante" which is only 150 meter from this b&b. This was a nice place and a good meal,
All by all a very pleasant (short) stay and I would certainly recommend this place.

My wife and I stayed at Maribell during our honeymoon. The location of the B&B is in a very safe neighborhood. Amazing food, public transportation, and the Vatican are all within a short walk from this location. The hospitality that we received during our stay is by far better than any place that we stayed while in Italy for two weeks. The owner is a very kind and helpful woman that runs the place on her own. She surprised us with a bottle of prosecco since it was our honeymoon. We picked the room with the attached bathroom. The room and the bathroom were very neat and clean. There was plenty of room in the bathroom for two people to get ready for the day. The breakfast had fresh croissants and great cappuccinos. I recommend Maribell to all of my friends and family that are looking to visit Rome. Trust me, you will not be disappointed with picking this great little B&B.
