Al Duello was our best restaurant experience in a 5 day trip to Rome. They have great food and service in a charming setting. We noticed more locals in the dining room than tourist, always a good sign.

We were in Rome for a week and wished we had found Al Duello at the beginning of our stay as we would have returned. The menu was delicious. Each dish we had was delightful and delicious. My husband had a lovely gluten free meal. The decor is charming and comfortable. You will enjoy it if you go.

Thank you TA community for leading me to this place! Indeed off the beaten path. Did deliver as reviewed: we had the zucchini flowers and the ricotta appetizers both delicious! Then we shared a gnocchi primer piati, next we had the lamb main course and the Osso bucco. The lamb was the bomb, crisp outside and juicy inside.
Dessert was good and the wine recommendation very appropriate. Overall an excellent experience. 110 E for 2.

It’s hard to imagine that anyone ever “stumbles” on Al Duello. One approach is off what appears to be a dead end alley that seems to have been the inspiration for saying “I wouldn’t want to be caught in a dark alley with (fill in the blank).” However, our experience demonstrates that it is worth the hunt. The room has a contemporary feel compared to a lot of restaurants in the area, done up in tones of red, silver and gray. At the start of service, we were the only people there, but were warmly welcomed with a glass of prosecco and an amuse bouche. We opted for an appetizer of zucchini flowers stuffed with cheese and cherry tomatoes and wrapped in bacon. Although it may sound heavy, the five bite-sized morsels were quite light and bursting with flavor. My wife had the veal saltimbocca which was served with spinach. I often find this dish to be heavily sauced and pretty undistinguished. To the contrary, this rendition was expertly cooked, allowing the flavor of the veal and the sage to shine through. The sauce, such as it was, was essentially the pan juices, there to be soaked up with a couple of slices of grilled bread. I had the cacio e pepe, the best version of the dish I had in Rome. The pasta was perfectly al dente, the sauce cheesy but not heavy, and with just the right amount of pepper. It was sublime. We were going to skip dessert but opted to share a crème brulée, which proved to be a very good version, the rich, bright yellow custard topped with a nicely torched sugar brittle.

Wine was reasonably priced, service was excellent, and we were able to relax and finish our wine in peace as other diners arrived. Al Duello may not be easy to find, but it is certainly worth seeking out.

We stumbled in to this adorable and charming restaurant and fell in love with everything about it. The friendly yet professional staff spoke perfect English and we enjoyed watching locals come in and converse with a cordial gentleman who seemed to be the owner. The fresh and warm bread sticks and the complimentary tonnato amuse bouche were delicious. We had the stuffed zucchini blossoms that were perfectly prepared and then shared the gnocchi which were heavenly little pillows of goodness. My Osso Bucco was wonderful as was the Tripe. For dessert we had the orange mille feaux....light and lively.
We are making sure to go back during our week here. I highly recommend.
