if you have some free time, it's very big and there is a big selection of second hand items. You need patience in order to find something nice and useful for you.

It is only open on Sunday, but it is enormous. Stalls stretch on both sides of the street for over a mile. Not all of the vendors speak English, but with a bit of effort, you will be able to communicate with all of them. Restaurants are also part of the area. We took a public bus alongside the river to the main entrance. On the way back, we discovered a street car line less than 2 blocks away. After a while, many of the stalls will begin to look alike, but it is a fascinating look into non-touristy Rome. Bargaining with the vendors is part of the fun. My son wears the 5X Italian leather jacket we bought there on special occasions.

this sunday morning i visited 9-10am when the foot traffic was nearly entirely locals. there were more tourists coming in as i left.
the entry from the main transport street, viale de trastavere, had a great set of old treasures - used leather bags from morocco, linen nightgowns, replacement pieces for your crystal chandelier!. in other spots there were hundreds of stalls for locals eg socks, light bulbs, reading glasses, crystal chandeliers.
its a cash system, but up on that main street opposite the entry there's an ATM, i got directions from the patrolling policemen.
prices were great. i bought a hand woven mat, used snake skin boots and an antique weekend leather bag, each around 30 euro.
after an hour i'd only gone around a little area but like any flea market it was certainly starting to repeat itself. in the area i covered there was only one hot food stall, and a couple of cold food to take.
home.
i took bus H from termini to get there and back. the tram from piazza venezia also goes there

I love this market, it is the second time we have visited (last time was in 2010) and it was just as good as I remembered .
There are some areas that are really crowded, like the clothing section, but personally I think that is the least interesting part. It is a fabulous place to find old treasures big and small. I love all the old books, letters and photos that have ended up here. There is old furniture, jewellery, crockery, leather goods old and new in fact there is a bit of everything if you have the patience to keep looking. You are expected to bargain politely but do not get too carried away as these people are not making their fortune here.
If you are not claustrophobic and love to look for a bargain don't miss it...
