No.1 Wow - First sight of the hotel, warm welcome by concierge & reception.
2 Wow - Being congratulated on our 30th wedding anniversary (mentioned briefly in our original booking back in January),then being given a letter selecting us for upgrade to Imperial Room.
3 Wow - Imperial room, stylish design, breathtaking views, delicious food and drink, lovely welcoming staff, nothing too much trouble especially the numerous trays of tea we British like.
4. Wow - The Imperial bedroom on the 8th floor, forget the view of the telephone mast and apartment buildings, this is Italy and the balcony also gave a delightful view of the front of the hotel and the gorgeous fountain. Far worse views from many top class hotels in numerous other cities. Not a negative factor at all.

The bedroom wanted for nothing, even an umbrella if it should be needed - the amazing thunderstorm viewed from the balcony one evening was thoroughly enjoyable but maybe the hotel can't take too much credit for that! The hotel, however, did provide the balcony complete with canopy so thanks for that.
5. Wow - The bathroom deserves its own Wow, everything you needed, expertly cleaned, very ornate but functional and apologies but there are now a couple of Cavalieri soaps in my bathroom at home with instructions not to use them!
6 Wow - The shuttle bus, always on time, loved being driven through the crazy roads of Rome, a fascinating insight into Rome life, a very modern coach, air conditioned and a very professional service.
7 Wow - The amazingly friendly, professional, caring, attentive staff who speak excellent English. I do not think I ever had need to open a door for myself, every single staff member whom we passed, whether it be housekeeping, concierge, restaurant, shuttle driver, or just staff simply passing by - always, always took the time to smile and afford a greeting. They make you feel so welcomed.
8 Wow - Last but not least Wow - The Cavalieri Hotel itself - never apologise for your location, its just perfect, not only for the views it affords across the city of Rome but from the enjoyment we got from being at the top of the dome of St. Peters and being able to see the Hotel clearly and say "that's where we are staying, yes that lovely hotel on the hillside so clearly visible from here".

The Cavalieri Hotel did not live up to our expectations of the past 6 months, it surpassed them and for that we thank you and for a truly amazing 5 days in Rome. Priceless and unforgettable.

Room Tip: All bedrooms will be to a high standard although the Imperial bedrooms do give access to the Imperia...

I think the hotel has been covered by everybody before me. It is ugly from the outside but boy is it beautiful inside!! Truely magnificent, rooms are 50 sq meter and furnished lovely. Ignore all others that tell you to upgrade. I got the cheapest rooms (family of 5) . We're only in the room to sleep so a view didn't matter, Beds were big and very comfortable with pillow menu. Interconnecting rooms with full marble bathrooms and usual Hilton freebees.

Breakfast included and at best was adequate, certainly not worth paying for on the day. Lots of fruit that you can take to snack on during the day.

The pools were fantastic main pool 25m long and approx 15 m wide and strangely very deep even in shallow end, staffed very well indeed but a bit heavy handed on the kids not allowing them to dive or jump in even in the separate kids pool. Every one moans about the 18 euro fee for a lounger. Well we just got towels from the attendant didnt ask for a foam mattress which is what they charge for not for the towels and used any free lounger around the pool or better still to avoid looking like a tight git use the loungers around the kids pool were more cost savy people are all lying on loungers without the foam mattress for free!! get extra towels for extra comfort.

Pool bar way too expensive, 29 euros for a burger and chips, same for a sandwich and pizza, 6 euro for small bottle of water-get real guys, charge less and more people will eat. Consequently most tables are free. Service poor considering price. Money saving tip -portions are huge therefore order food to come to your lounger and share with your partner. kids menu is good and reasonable order from that for them, the adult sized club sandwich will feed 3 kids easily. Buy water down town and keep the bottle, there are water stands carefully hidden around the pool which you can use to fill your bottle up.

Lunch time better still to leave hotel turn right at exit and 200 meters brings you onto a nice little square where we had great service great paninis, drinks, coffee, kinder eggs all for the price of one burger back at the hotel!! get your water and wine there to drink back at the hotel.

Everyone says there are no restaurants nearby-however there is! Tturn right out of hotel 100 meters on there is a tiny park, take the steps down and immediately opposite is a restaurant called 'The View' takes max 5 mins to walk there. The food was fantastic and very good prices indeed nearly as good as the view over the city-quite stunning. It is a quality place so dress up for it, we didnt and consequently a very snooty waiter took some offense but after I sent a bottle of wine back with a few choice words to him ie 'your a waiter drop the attitude' amongst others and generally made sure he knew what I thought of him things did pick up, needless to say for the first time in some time I left no tip, he didn't say goodbye but his colleague who obviously found the whole thing amusing came to shake my hand when I left!!

Cheque out was easy and quick, stayed around the pool rest of day and used spa changing areas. Used rome.net transfers which were punctual and reasonable price.

Coliseum tour booked in advance for the underground and third tier tour-well worth it, go early am or late pm to avoid the queue (absolutely massive and make sure you get in the right line)), even with a prepaid voucher you will have to wait, always leave 30 mins of queue time even with prepaid voucher, many people missed their time slots and got very angry so beware.

Vatican tour again great, get a guide when you book, ours met us outside took us through then got all the tickets and took us around, go at 3pm tour time then you will have the place almost to yourself. The little cafe is very reasonable price for a pitstop!!

If you can afford to eat at the Hilton why is everybody moaning about the Taxi price?? The shuttle into town is fine, Taxi to furthest point we went was 15 euros for 5 of us either way. Taxis everywhere and easy to flag down, we couldn't be bothered to wait for the shuttle or walk to it. Value for money.

In summary beautiful place, fantastic pool, average service, great location, pool bar too expensive, bring in your own water, take the fruit at breakfast, eat outside hotel or inside carefully. Visit the view restaurant for great food with a grumby waiter with the small goatie-ish beard for a fun time provided you can handle and stick up for yourself.

Have fun DocJimbo

Beautiful 5 star hotel overlooking Rome. The views are breathtaking, the rooms very luxurious, wonderful grounds etc. Really great executive lounge with delicious snacks. Not really within walking distance of any of the major sites but there is a free shuttle and the cab ride does not cost much. We had connecting rooms and the kids felt like royalty. Due to the status of the hotel, the crowd can be a bit snobby but that's easy to ignore. If you like posh, this is the place to be.

What an outstanding hotel. The location is amazing, up over the hills of Rome with a magnificent view of the city. The staff were so helpful and the room very plush. It's a short (but fast!) taxi ride into the centre but worh it to stay out of the hustle and bustle of Rome. There are two pools, one indoor and one outdoor and an amazing health and fitness area. The food was lovely, what more can I say only we plan to return!

If you don't mind spending money...and are looking for an Oasis in Rome away from the noise and bustle...the Cavalieri is the spot.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights July 21-23, 2011. Here are the highs and lows:

Highs
Beautiful location high on a hill overlooking the city. Make sure you get a City View room...those that do not have look at a radio tower
Pool is fabulous....great lounging and drinks
The lobby and property are filled with antique artwork...charming
Many rooms have a view of St. Peter's...we could see thru trees.
Restaurant La Pergola on the roof is rated by many as best restaurant in Rome. We agree...see review on the restaurant
Easy cab ride to center city...less than 10 minutes...about 10 euro. All cab drivers know the hotel
Quiet....a true oasis

Not So Good
Very expensive....but our taste of service. Pool is free but a pad etc costs you. So does internet and gym.

Bottom-line....a great hotel...but if you want to walk out the front door and be near Piazza not for you.

Room Tip: Ask for City View...and ask for rooms that have a view of St. Peter's. About 1/3 do

We stayed at this hotel 3 nights after our cruise. We had booked hilton bed and breakfast.
The location was not good, far from everything. There was a shuttle bus running every half an hour but only until 20 pm. The building looked like a construction in the previous socialistic countries (big but not inviting).
The breakfast was good and we were glad to have it included in our rate, otherwise it would have been too expensive to buy it ( like everything else at the restaurants ) and no other options close to the hotel.
Our room was spacious and nice. We did not receive the paper, the turn down service on the evening kept living us a message saying she came and we did not answer, which was not truth. By the wy she came apparently at 22 .30 in the night, which I find kind of a funny time for such a service.
Although the hotel has indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a gym we were told at reception that we could not use any of them unless we paid an additional fee of about 25 Euro. Although we knew that there was an additional fee for the spa, it was not clear to us that all swimming pools from the hotel belong to the spa and either you have a rate that includes them all or you cannot use them. This was specially dissappointing for not being able to use the gym. I mean what is the point of booking in such a hotel if you are more or less confined to your room looking at the radio antena and feeling like a second class citizen because either you pay much more or you canno use the facilities which even in three star hotels are normal and free of charge to guests (gym and swimming pool).
My conclusion is this is an expensive, not price worthed hotel to which we will not come back.

We stayed for five nights, four of which were on Hilton Points. Our first night was a "paid" night and we reserved a room overlooking the city. Fortunately (and to their credit), they didn't move us to the back of the hotel (with the outstanding view of the cell phone tower !) for our following four "free" nights.
The room on the 6th floor had excellent amenities and the view of Rome from the balcony overlooking the pool area, was spectacular. On our first night we were treated to a 30 min firework display over the pool area, celebrating a birthday party. This is apparently a very popular hotel among Romans, for weddings, honeymoon's and other special celebrations.

All the staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful and all we encountered had a much better command of the English language, than we did Italian. We had a very special dinner one evening at 'La Pergola' which is Rome's only 3 Michelin star restaurant and is located on the 8th floor. Both the service and food at La Pergola were truly delightful. We also had one dinner at L'Uliveto restaurant in the hotel which was very good but be warned, the portions are huge! We used room service on one evening and it was fast and efficient.

The ONLY reason that we are giving this hotel a 4 star rating rather than 5 stars is the quality (and cost) of the buffet breakfast at L'Uliveto Restaurant. It was really quite bad for a hotel of this stature. There was no selection of cheese or cold meats; just some fruit and breads with lukewarm fried and scrambled eggs, bacon and a type of breakfast sausage in the warmers. The cost if I remember correctly was E39.00 each.

Room Tip: Go for a Rome view room - it's worth the extra
