The hotel facilities and staff were absolutely 5 star.Excellent room, bathroom bedding and view.
A little removed from downtown, however , an excellent, complimentary, regular shuttle bus ( with a most informative driver) solves this problem If holidaying, it is lovely walk from the hotel to the Vatican and into the city!
The only minor criticism of the hotel itself was the rather expensive 20 Euro per person for entry to the health club ( gym,pool,steam room.spa etc) Having said that,these facilities were of the highest standard.
If returning to Rome,we would definitely be returning to this hotel.

The Rome Cavalier has breathtaking views of the city. The rooms are very elegant. However, the exterior does not resemble a 5 star hotel, especially a Waldorf Astoria. The outside needs much updating to not resemble very traditional 1960's construction. Additionally, the lobby needs updating as well. While we were visiting the hotel they were hosting some type of trade expo right on sight. The hotel was packed in all lobby areas as well as the front door entrance which you could barely maneuver through. The ground transportation area in front of the hotel was complete chaos at all times. The hotel courtesy shuttle was generally completed and we actually never rode it because there was not enough available space. We ended up taking taxis or walking into to the city which quite a hike all down hill. I would recommend Cavalieri for those individuals that want an amazing view of the city and have excess cash to spend on transportation. If you want to be centralized in Rome with inexpensive transportation this hotel is not for you.

Room Tip: Ask for the highest floor level facing the city.

My wife and I took our daughter to Rome, as one of her 18th birthday surprises...stayed over the Xmas period.
I have to say that, yes it is expensive, but worth every single penny. This is a magnificent, expansive and beautiful hotel. It even has it's own fine art collection dotted around the place and you can ask for a private tour of it. There is not a single tired or uncared for inch of property that I could spot. The outside does not look that special, but inside is the extreme opposite.
Upon arrival, we had numerous bell-boys and concierges greeting and attending us, without us being made to feel like cash-cows. I had emailed ahead to advise of our daughter's special birthday and found we had been given a free upgrade to a city-facing deluxe room. I noted from previous reviews that the 'Imperial Rooms' were the ones to get, due to the bedroom views and access to the Imperial lounge. I enquired about the possiblity to upgrade further, and was offered an Imperial room at a discounted rate - but it did not have a city view. Then to his great credit, the reception manager came over, and without us asking, he personally re-arranged some bookings to get us a room with a view. He then shook my hand and thanked me for choosing to stay with them. Important point: The reception desk clerk took us up the room personally, and showed us round... I gave him a generous tip, due to his helpfulness... which paid divends later, as I will explain.
Moving on to the Room - it was sumptious and well though out, clean and classy... with Salvatore Ferragamo toiletries. There is also a secondary internal sound-proofing door, for even more comfort ! Note: as with alot of continental hotels, there are no ironing facilities, so you have to use the expensive hotel service... or do as we did.... take a travel iron !
We had a magnificent private balcony with patio furniture, and a stunning view of the city skyline.
Upgrading to an 'Imperial Room/Suite' gives you access to the Imperial Lounge. Here a commendable list of drinks, including spirits, wines, prosecco etc. and canapes, breakfast and cakes/desserts are served all day... free of charge ! Given the price of drinks in the hotel (9 euros for a coke), this can be very handy. Warning - Internet access is charged at 12 euros per day, per device.
The hotel has 4 dining options..
1) Room service... not cheap, and a 5 euro p/p surcharge.
2) Tiepolo Bar/Lounge/Terrace... limited menu.
3) L'Uliveto restaurant... nice friendly place, with great food and service. Also, the impressive breakfast buffet is served here in the mornings.
4) If you are wanting to splash-out, then the opulent dining choice is 'La Pergola'. The taxi driver on the way over said it was the best restaurant in the whole of Rome. It is run by a 3 Michelin star Chef. To give you and idea of the standard.... New Year's Eve dinner would set you back 1200euros... EACH - And that is even if you could secure a reservation !

I must also mention the immaculate gardens, Lemon trees, terraces, pools etc. Complete with stone Lions.. all impeccably maintained.

Now, back to my point about tipping the reception clerk handsomely, earlier..... That evening he came to our room with a bottle of quality Prosecco, 2 boxes of hand-made chocolates and a card personally signed by the Manager... all for our Daughter's 18th birthday, and all complimentary! A nice touch, and in keeping with the luxurious vibe and impression we had already formed of the place.

We all know that nowadays alot of hotels are cutting corners with the number and standards of their staff... definitely NOT the case here. All the staff spoke impeccable English; were extremely helpful; Did really seem to take a genuine pride in there hotel and work.

I could go on writing for hours about the merits of this hotel, and I am not a hotel-stay novice... but suffice to say: Yes, expect to pay for the quality, and Yes, it is not that close to the City attractions (there is a free private hotel shuttle bus). So, if those things bother you.... don't stay here - but you will be really missing out ! There are endless quality touches and aspects I cannot even begin to tell you about !
Can I think of anything that could be improved ? Well, with a struggle...
1) FREE WIFI ?? It really irritates me when I have to pay for this, at any hotel.
2) Maybe there should be a list of what is available in the Imperial Lounge, as there are things not visible and available to order for free.
As a side note, beware of the Airport Taxis. As with all airports taxis anywhere, you could get hit with an inflated charge. At Flumincino (Da Vinci) Airport, as you come out of arrivals, avoid the taxi/limo desk still within the terminal building... you will get touted and sweet-talked by those guys. they will tell you that a shuttle bus to the city is 20euros p/p... but it is actually less than half that. They offered to take us to the hotel for 95euros. I know it was a bit exorbitant, but I could not be bothered to look elsewhere. We had a suicidal mini-van driver, who also took another fare - a couple were already sitting at the back of the van. There was never any danger, I realised later that ALL Rome taxi drivers seem to drive like this. I would suggest maybe going outside of the terminal and looking for an alternative official 'white' taxi ? Maybe they would charge you a premium too, so can't advise for definite. To put this into context, the same return journey via taxi from the hotel only cost 60 Euros, and it was Boxing Day.
SUMMARY: One of the best all-round hotel experiences I have ever had... expensive, but worth it - FAULTLESS !

The Rome Calaieri is a truly wonderful experience from your moment of arrival. In Rome for the holidays, we decided to stay at the Cavalieri having stayed in several Waldorf hotels before (and never being disappointed). Our room had a view over the city itself, and you could hear the bells of the Vatican on sunday morning, as well as other church bells - adding to the whole ambiance of the stay. We corresponded with Nicola, chief reception manager, prior to our arrival who helped arrange dinner reservations, pick up from the airport and spa appointments all in advance - making the trip even easier and more enjoyable for us all. The decor of the lobby and the outside of the building is charmingly 'vintage' in it's style, but the art collection inside and the sculptures and priceless pieces of furniture around the building keep you looking at things of beauty, rather than old bits of concrete. We had drinks before dinner in the cocktail bar in the lobby before joining friends for dinner and heading into town, and always took advantage of the outstanding breakfast buffet (included in the price of ther room) every morning. There are regular shuttles into and back from the centre of town, and that helps to add to the value of the price of the room itself. While it is a bit pricey, there are lots of things 'included' in the price - so make sure to find out what they all are before you go, and not miss out - as all the additions are excellent.
Make sure not to miss the Grand Spa downstairs, as the treatment list is truly impressive and even if you don't indulge in a treatment, take advantage of all the 'complimentary' elements of the spa while there. I spent a good hour each day reading in my robe on a chaise lounge in the mosiac surround relaxation room - which was amazing to be in a real Roman spa in Rome. Enjoy every minute, I know that we did. The level of service and attentiveness was impeccable and everyone, every meal, every moment couldn't have been nicer.

One of my great experiences was spending a week at the Hilton Cavaleri in 2002. Over the past ten years I have shared with fellow frequent travelers the joy of walking the streets of Rome during the day and watching the sunset from the executive lounge balconies in the evening. I ended each of these conversations with "make it a point to visit the Hilton Cavaleri". That was then, this is now. I checked in today, Christmas, and was told that since becoming a Waldorf Astoria, Diamond members no longer have access to the lounge, instead they get breakfast in the main dining room and receive a voucher for one free drink in the lobby bar. Wonderful hotel, nice staff, great city; terrible policy directed at Hilton's most loyal customers. For all Hilton diamonds out there, take Waldorf Astorias off your list of potential destinations and enjoy full amenities at a Hilton hotel. For those traveling to Italy, the Molino Stucky Hilton in Venice is exceptional.

We just spent a few fantastic days in Rome. Hotel was excellent, rooms are beautiful and the view stunning. Very friendly and helpful staff.
The lobby needs some update as does the exterior of the hotel. We would love to go back!

I had the opportunity to stay at this hotel last week while on a multi-city business trip in Europe. The hotel was not only magnificent and beautiful, but was a good place to get work done. I found the staff to be welcoming and helpful.

The restaurant had an amazing breakfast buffet, and there were tasty food options at the bar available after a long day of work.

The spa provided a good venue for my morning runs.

The shuttle dropped me off in a location convenient to my meetings, which was a pleasant surprise!

Room Tip: My room had a view of Rome that was nothing short of breathtaking!
