Owner description: Picture more than 300,000 Roman spectators cheering chariot races inside this huge Roman circus, which was built to entertain emperors during the time of Imperial Rome.

We visited Circus Maximus the day before the Rolling Stones had a concert there, so it looked more or less like a building site. But otherwise it would probably have been even less things to see, just an open field for racing horses at. But for once the information at the site was very good and made it worth visiting anyway.

This was the chariot racing arena for ancient Rome. Think Ben Hur. Apart from a couple of small structures it is now a sunken area with grassy banks but at time of visit it seems that they are working to make it a more significant tourist attraction.

this attraction was open and free of charge and interesting to think of the games and events that would have happened here so long ago, beware of the street sellers who at this area can get a little aggressive and insulting if you engage in conversation and then try to walk away, no facilities here if you are likely to need then you would need to go to a cafe

It's currently nothing but grass and needs to be off tourist maps. They are excavating the area and might prove to be an amazing attraction in the future, but don't make the effort today.

I understood, that here was a one of a biggest race-tracks of antiquities. But now, it it only a big, empty area! Nothing to see, nothing to do. Skip it.
