“Beautiful, friendly, top-notch hotel, location, and staff”
Reviewed 26 May 2012

We stayed on recommendation of relatives and it was excellent. For same price as vastly inferior hotels, we were pleased with every aspect of our experience. First, the location is excellent right across the Pantheon...could not be better. Second, they upgraded us (without being asked) and we had a terrific room on the side (quiet) with views of the Pantheon and a terrace. LArge, comfortable and well-appointed (floor had recently been renovated). The building has a rooftop terrace with one of the most spectacular city views possible. Third, the staff was unbelievably friendly, helpful, knowledgeable...what more can we say?
We would return in a flash and pay the difference to the better room.

Room Tip: ask for a renovated floor top floor side room with terrace and view of Pantheon was splendid.

I have just returned from a city break in Rome staying in this beautiful hotel. The hotel is similar to a boutique style hotel in an amazing location opposite the Pantheon. It is elegantly decorated and very clean. However the one thing that stood out for me was the staff. Their levels of customer service were exceptional. They always made time to chat and treat every guest as an individual and gave lots of tips on how to find places. I have travelled to many places and stayed in 4 and 5 star hotels but the customer service I recieved here was by far the best to that I have had anywhere else. I would absolutely recommend this hotel and if I return to Rome would stay here again.

the bartender, song and dance man and defender of the rooftop terrace from the barbarians (pigeons).
By now you have plowed through all of these 5 star reviews and probably have the notion that Albergo del Senato is a decent place to stay while in Rome. Everything said about the location, the staff and general fit and finish of the place is true. You will love it here.
But the real treasure, in my opinion , is the rooftop terrace and the man who dispenses the Jack Daniels or whatever your pleasure, Mariano. Rome is a hectic place and you will feel frazzled at the end of a long day of touching history while dodging Fiats and persistent restaurant hawkers. Mariano will set you right, teach you a little Italian and if your interested, and you should be, tell you a little about his city. "If you're not a little crazy we don't want you here", he told me and that will make sense to soon.
In bocca al lupo, Mariano. I hope I got that right.

Room Tip: If you don't mind a little noise get a room facing the Pantheon. For a little quieter pick one i...

Albergo del Senato is a great hotel in a perfect location next to the Pantheon in the centre of Rome. The staff are excellent -- and very happy to provide knowledgable and up to date advice on good places to eat, of which there are many close by. The hotel has a fantastic roof terrace bar, open in the evenings until late, with an amazing view over the Pantheon, Piazza della Rotunda and Rome rooftops -- there can be few better places to be on a warm Rome evening. Easily the most enjoyable hotal we have stayed in over many visits to Rome.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the Pantheon have great views, but are noisy -- better to get an internal room on...

We have stayed at this hotel a number of times and it is the only hotel we would stay in when visiting Rome. If you have a room overlooking the Pantheon, it is a marvellous experience and indeed, when entering or leaving the hotel you feel as though you are in a very special place.

It is very centrally located and all the major visitor attractions are within walking distance. The Piazza remains busy in to the late evening and there are lots of places to have a drink either before or after dinner. In addition, there are numerous restaurants in the locality. See our other reviews.

The concierges are very charming and helpful. Mauro is exceptional in our experience. However, all of them are prepared to assist with restaurant bookings and give advice about any particular interests you might have for food or drink. To a very great extent it is the front of house reception that really makes this hotel although we have always been impressed by all other staff. Perhaps the secret is that although it is a central hotel in Rome you feel very special when you stay there.

Of course, being central Rome the cost of staying there is not small but it ranks well with other hotels in similar locations. We stayed on two occasions in May. On the first occasion we stayed there for four nights with other friends staying in the same hotel. We then travelled to Venice and returned for another night.

Something which is mentioned by guests from time to time in reviews is that the standard rooms can be small. However, central Rome hotels are tight on space so make sure that you book a larger room (if space is important to you) which may cost more but it is always worth it at this hotel.

Prior to leaving on the first occasion we mentioned casually that we have stayed in a number of rooms in the hotel before and observed that this time our room was rather small. On our return visit, we were immediately given a larger room at no extra charge. It was such a personal touch but clearly our point been taken on board, the message passed on and of course as a guest, it makes you feel very special. The experience of staying in two rooms demonstrated to us that there is constant refurbishment going on and in a very minor way some of the rooms need a little TLC. However, the sheer brilliance of everything else about this hotel, makes it pale into insignificance. Cleaning standards are very high and the rooms are immaculate in that respect.

When there, make sure you visit the rooftop terrace which also has a bar. The views over the Pantheon and Rome are stupendous. It is a wonderful place to have coffee or drinks especially at night.

Breakfast is served in a small dining room. It is a self-service buffet including hot food although coffee/tea is served individually by waiting staff. The breakfast is consistently good.

Taxis are readily available and organised by reception very well either to the railway station or the airport.

TIPS:
Request a room overlooking the Pantheon. If you are uncomfortable in smaller rooms splash out a little on a larger one. Again, it is worth it.

Make sure you visit the roof terrace especially at night. It is magical.

We recommend this hotel wholeheartedly and unreservedly.

Room Tip: Book a room with a view over the Pantheon.

The location is superb! A stone throw away from the pantheon. All you need is a good pair of walking shoes and you can walk to most of the major sights like the Trevi fountain, the Spanish steps, numerous museums, palaces, piazzas and even the Vatican City. The Colosseum is just 3 subways stop from Piazza Spagna. And you’ll never go hungry; most alleyways are packed with eateries, restaurants, gelato shops plus souvenir stores and a supermarket.

The hotel provides free breakfast until 11:00 AM. The room is always kept clean and the staffs are polite and helpful. The floor is hardwood, a big plus for people with allergic reactions to carpeted room. And there is a bidet in the bathroom (a big + for us at least). And let me add that amongst the 3, 4 and 5-star hotels, we’ve stayed so far, only Albergo DS and Hotel Niwa (Tokyo) have ultra-white, ultra-soft bath towels and linens every day.

we stayed fro 5 days and its location is a big factor for using it again when we return to Rome.

We recently stayed at the Albergo del Senato . It was our 4th time. We love the location and the staff is wonderful. Wouldn't stay anywhere else.
