“Perfect for our Honeymoon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 May 2009

This hotel was the perfect spot for our honeymoon. The location was perfect; we walked everywhere while we were in Rome. The staff went above and beyond any other hotel I've been to. The front desk was always available and helpful with suggestions (especially Alessandra). The staff came to our rooms twice a day to clean up the rooms and to turn down the beds at night. The rooftop bar gave great views and the bartender Michele was very hospitable. The room was beautiful and looked right onto the Pantheon and the Piazza della Rotonda. The bathroom was spotless. And last but not least, the breakfast was amazing. There was plenty to choose from and it was all good!

We chose this hotel for a one-night stay in Rome while en route to Spoleto. We wanted to get to the Pantheon in the early morning before the crowds arrive, and to dine at Da Fortunato, about 50 feet away from the hotel. Both plans were successfully executed. The hotel itself was superb--an oasis of calm and comfort. The room was large and well-appointed, with a little sitting room as an anteroom; bathroom not huge but perfectly fine, with lots of shelf space. Stunning view of the Pantheon. We don't understand remarks about noise from the square--our windows were remarkably efficient at excluding noise, and we were not disturbed at all. Of course you can't expect the centre of a city to be like a monastery but we were on the first floor and really noticed nothing. The people in the hotel were absolutely charming. We too were interested in the roof bar but it was explained to us that it opens a little bit later in the year. True, the temperature in Rome is quite comfortable in spring but it is a city that also has sudden downpours at certain times of the year and this could cause a fair amount of chaos with service in a roof bar, so we thought this was reasonable. We are certainly planning to revisit this hotel on future trips to Rome.

Rome was the first stop in our 3-city Italy tour, and we had a hard time narrowing down the hotels in Rome, since there are so many options. We chose this hotel based on the price, location and reviews on Tripadvisor, and we were extremely happy with our choice. We had requested a room with a view of the Pantheon when I booked, and although they couldn't confirm that for the type of room we were booking, when we checked in we found that they gave us a corner room facing the Pantheon. The room was spotless, the bathroom was huge, and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was really great- the cappuccino was wonderful. Rolls, fruit, cold cuts, some eggs- as long as you don't expect pancakes and omelettes, you'll be pleased.

The location is by far the best. Some of the streets in this part of Rome can be a little disorienting, but it made it so much easier to just keep our eyes open for the signs pointing to the Pantheon, or even for the McDonald's Pantheon sign. The only slightly negative side to the location is that there was a little noise that came in from the piazza. The crowds stuck around until after midnight most nights, and in the mornings the delivery trucks arrived early. We used earplugs, so it didn't bother us at all. If you are sensitive to noise at night, it is a good idea to always travel with earplugs anyway.

The only other (tiny) complaint I had was that I specifically wanted a hotel in Rome with a rooftop bar, which was one of the reasons we booked this hotel. Unfortunately it was never open. We went up the first night (Thursday), excited to enjoy a drink while overlooking Rome. We were chased away by the bartender, so we asked at the front desk what was going on. He told us the rooftop bar was being cleaned, but would be open for sure on Monday. We were leaving on Tuesday, so I was disappointed, but we figured at least we would get to enjoy it for one evening. On Monday we asked again what time it opened, and the woman at the front desk told us it was too cold so it would not be open (it was about 55-60 degrees, which isn't cold here in Minnesota). We were really disappointed, but chalked it up to bad timing, not fault on the hotel. We did enjoy a grappa in the main bar, and the bartender there was extremely helpful and friendly.

I would highly recommend this hotel and hope to return myself someday, hopefully when the weather is more stable and the rooftop is not being cleaned!

Just returned from a 10 day stay in Italy which began with four nights in room 305 and ended with a one night predparture stay in room 204 with a balcony. Both rooms overlooked the Pantheon with a simply stunning view, We just loved this hotel. The location is central and walkable to most anything in Rome and the surrounding area is fun and safe. The staff, especially Mauro, were helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean and the showers were great...hot and big! The bed was a bit hard for us but wasn't a big deal. The only thing you should be aware of is the potential for noise from the piazza on the weekend nights. We brought a white noise machine with us from home and it drowned out any nightime revelry noises so this was not a problem for us. It could be if you are a very light sleeper. That said, anywhere in Rome which is a city with narrow streets has the potential to be noisy. Anyhow...the rooftop bar was open and we really enjoyed the panorama of the city. In Room 305, you could lie on the bed and see the Pantheon not 70 feet away!! Amazing! In Room 204 which was a little larger, you could stand on the balcony overlooking the piazza and just feel like royalty! Will definitely return next time we are in Rome should we be so fortunate!

We have just returned from an Easter break at the Albergo del Senato, having chosen it from the previous reviews on Trip Advisor. We were not disappointed and had a very good time. The room we had 205 was quite small but had a fantastic view of the Pantheon and the Piazza. It was very clean, fresh linen and towels every day sometimes twice if the cleaner came in while we were out and saw they had been used! Even chocolates on your pillow at night. The only minor critisism was the fact that the furniture and fittings etc. could have been in slightly better condition. The hotel staff were particularly helpful especially Mauro and Alessandra on the front desk and the staff in the breakfast room were always friendly and cheerful and after a day or two able to anticipate your preferences for cappachino, espresso, etc.
The hotel is situated very centrally and we were able to walk to all the major sites quite comfortably. The main shopping road is about 10 minutes walk away. Its quite a good idea to invest in an A to Z road map of the area if you are doing a lot of walking as there are so many little side streets they are not always marked on the normal maps. The best restaurants we found were across the river in Trestavere, with some quite memorable meals taken at half the price of the restaurants on the Piazza.
If you want to go a bit further afield the trams and buses are quite an easy option, and of course the main line station at Termini.
The weather was just perfect during our stay but I can imagine it wouldn't be quite so comfortable to do as much walking as we did during the heat of the summer.
All in all we had a great time and would definately recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Rome

If your flying with easy jet, you can buy tickets on the plane for the Terravision bus from the airport to the Termini. Then catch the number 64 bus, we had trouble knowing which stop to get off at, but we just asked another passenger, it was about the 4th stop. The Hotel is only a couple of minutes walk from here. It is very easy to get lost in Rome, especially if you are not very good with a map, I suggest you get the Hop on/Hop off bus, 18 euros. The hotel was just amazing, the staff are so friendly and helpful. It is immaculately clean and the room was lovely and big, 308, we had a side view of the Pantheon, we had slippers and they turned the beds down at night and left lovely chocolates. The breakfast was gorgeous, scrambled eggs, toast, fresh fruit platters, cold meats and cheeses, pastries and cakes, and lovely cappachino's. The lift is very small but we just closed our eyes. The restaurants were quite expensive about £15 to £20 for a main meal, but lovely and don't forget to try the Icecream.
When going up the Cupola at St. Peter's Basilica, it is very small, do not go up if you don't like small places, but it is worth the view. When using the buses, it is very difficult to pay, it is 1 Euro from a machine on the bus, but you can never get near them as the bus is usually too full. Rome is absolutely amazing as is this Hotel, I can't wait to go back!!

Location of del Senato, atmosphere of Piazza della Rotonda and hospitality from the staff of this hotel make for lifelong memories. Most desires satiated within steps of the del Senato. Handmade chocolate, fried artichokes, gelato, spritz and a different pastry for every day of the month, burn it all off by walking into or around art & architecture, retire to
your room or engage in the people parade. Fantastico!
This is our second trip to the Albergo Del Senato in as many years. The location was a factor in our selection though it was the condition of the hotel (immaculate) AND the staff
(friendly, efficient & professional) that made us want to stay here again.

From the smooth front desk check-in Allesandra was friendly, helpful and cheerful while multi-tasking. Ettoro whisked our luggage to our rooms. Luca as professional and sharp
as he was back in Nov. 2007. Mauro and Luigi most helpful and friendly and a big thanks
to Ms. Tintoretto for fulfilling a last minute request. Alto grazie!
The breakfast & staff -most excellent zucchini 'panckes'- efficient, attentive and friendly,
especially Adam, selection of fruits, pastries, cereals, breads,etc... fresh and varied.
Rooms and common areas, clean, clean, clean. Even had a 'face cloth'!!
I hope management realizes that their staff is as valuable as their location. Roma abounds with hotel properties in prime locations. What separates good hotels from great
is the staff. Albergo del Senato is a great hotel because of its staff! We'll soon return.

ps. Heads up that the hotel is painting and light plastering in the main stairway April10th.
No inconvenience whatsoever as both elevators were operational. It was cool to
see craftsman at work in the morning and their finished product in the late afternoon.
