“Surely the best hotel in Rome”
Reviewed 9 September 2009

After all the great reviews from other trip advisors, we booked this hotel for our Rome Trip, it was our honeymoon so we prebooked a view of the pantheon. Wow, how amazing!!!

The hotel arranged to collect us from the Airport, excellent service. Check in was quick and easy too.

Our Room was lovely, it was a corner room, think the number was 417 but I can't be sure. it was beautifully decorated, it also had tea and coffee making facilities which is a bonus in Italy as its not the norm to have this. LCD TV (not that you'd go to Rome to watch TV!), bed was extremely comfortable, the Alarm clock was one of those SAD lights which start to gradually illuminate from 10 mins before the alarm goes off and then the alarm starts making birdie noices, really lovely way to wake up each morning (We had to buy one when we got home!)
Bathroom was great too, very well decorated, shower was fantastically powerful, didnt want to get out of it.
Mauro on the front desk was great, he recommended so many good restaurants, some expensive, some not so expensive. He really looked after us.
Another nice touch was when we got back from dinner, we found they had been in and turned down our bed, little mats next to the bed along with slippers.

If you go to Rome and want a nice hotel to stay in, dont look elsewhere, this place is perfect, so very central with great views. I can't wait to go back!

I'm so glad I booked this place for our 3 nights in Rome. Most of the other reviews cover the benefits of choosing the Senato so I'll simply say that we stayed here with a 7 yr old and an 18 mth old and had a great stay. The location is great; the staff welcoming, friendly and professional; I have no complaints on the room and if I return to Rome I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

Albergo Del Senato , Piazza della Rotunda, Rome.

My fiance and I spent 3 nights at the 3* Albergo Del Senato in August 2009.

The hotel is in Piazza della Rotunda. Our room (205) was on the second floor overlooking the piazza giving us a superb view of the Pantheon. The room was small although the bed was huge and comfortable. It was air conditioned which was much needed after suffering the blistering temperatures and humidity in the city during the day. The room also has sky tv, safe (and wifi if you buy a card from the hotel). The shutters on the window cut down on the noise from the crowded piazza at night. I have to say, we heard very little noise. ( I tend to think if you can stay awake once you get in bed you're not doing the holiday properly!!)

The bathroom was compact but had wonderfully powerful overbath shower, sink, loo and bidet. Plenty of towels and toiletries were provided. Room was cleaned every day with fresh linen and towels. One nice touch, the housekeeper turned down the bed each evening, leaving a bonbon on the pillow and put out a small mat beside the bed, she also closed the curtains and shutters. I felt so looked after.

Breakfast was excellent, cold meats, cheese, pastries, fruit, yoghurt as well scrambled eggs. The coffee was wonderful. The staff, Aurissa and Adem ensured tables were cleared quickly magically produced refills of coffee. The dining room seemed small ( 12 or so tables) but we always found a table.

The roof top terrace bar is open from 17.30 – 23.30 each day, The view across Rome is amazing, the bar staff are friendly and helpful. This also goes for the staff at the front desk, Alessandra, Ann and Mauro(?) could not have been better, nothing was too much trouble. They even allowed us to check our email one evening as we were hoping for an email from the Scavi tour office at the Vatican.

We booked the hotel primarily for its central location and roof top terrace. For our 3 night stay we paid an offer price of 432 euro's. A few weeks prior to our trip I checked out the price again and for the similar room it came up at 600 Euro, the price displayed behind he bedroom door was 392 Euro per night. We both felt that we got a great deal. The hotel was warm and welcoming, in a great location, we walked everywhere- 25 mins to St Peter's 30 mins to Colosseum, 15 mins to trevi Fountain, 5 mins Piazza Navona, brilliant.

We would definitley recommend the Albergo del Senato, They have some suites with private terraces which would have been wonderful for us but way out of our price range, check out the website.

This is such a perfect haven of peace in Rome. All the staff make you feel at home, always taking time to help arrange restaurants or advise on trips. Special thanks to Michel on the roof top bar for going the extra mile for us. We hope he remembers us getting engaged in the moonlight overlooking the Pantheon. Our thanks too, to Allessandra and Ann on the front desk.

We spent two nights at the Albergo del Senato in August for our honeymoon. The location is excellent -- the hotel is centrally located within walking distance of most everything & the piazza in front of the Pantheon features several restaurants with outdoor-dining so it doesn't get empty & sketchy at night. The staff was incredibly friendly. At checkin, we were upgraded to a suite. On the roof for a drink while the sun went down, the bartender - Michel - was very attentive & friendly, made an excellent martini, and took some really well-composed photos of us as the sun went down. Later, the concierge helped me book seats on an Italian-only bus website & then allowed me to use their computer to print the tickets (of course, if they'd had a business center, I could've printed them myself). The only reason I'm not awarding 5/5 on service is that the concierge recommended two mediocre restaurants. We should've learned our lesson in Venice & Florence -- don't ask the concierge; eat at places rated highly on TripAdvisor! That aside, the rooms were large, clean, comfortable; it far exceed the expectations I had of a 3-star hotel.

What a great find. The location can't be beat with window views of the Pantheon and virtually walking distance from all the major tourist sites. We didn't use a the metro even once although we did have to walk A LOT. The staff was very helpful and friendly and even helped us prebook our Vatican trip using their computer (which I STRONGLY recommend to avoid the long lines). There was no noise from the piazza thanks to the new windows and the hotel is very well maintained. Our room was small but that's what we expect when we travel to Europe. The only complaint was the shower. Unfortunately there isn't a curtain and the glass partition they have placed only covers 1/3 of the shower which allows water to splash EVERYWHERE in the bathroom. I'm 5'2" 100lbs so I can only imagine how much of a problem this would with someone who is larger. It got to be rather annoying moping up water after showering and using up all of our towels for this purpose. That being said, the hotel is great, the free wifi very useful, the breakfast and front desk staff friendly, the rooftop bar peaceful and the location can't be beat. Also, if you decide to take public transportation to this hotel from the train station be ready to walk and make sure to transfer at the Termini to bus 40. We misjudged and thought we could walk from the Colliseum and it was not fun in the 95degree weather.

Just back from an extra long week end. I can confirm that all previous excellent reviews seem to me nothing but the truth. Unbeatable location, extra efficient and corteous staff, air con working, absolutely no noise heard from the Pantheon crowd due to proper double glazing. Yes the breakfast room is a bit small and you might have to wait five minutes for a table but what is this compared to the previous gems?
Is it expensive? Probably yes but a price well worth paying for.
