Owner description: No one knows for sure what the meaning is behind this fountain, an intriguing baroque statue of a large half-sunken ship that spouts water.
Reviewed 27 January 2014

This is the cutest fountain of a ship filling up (or is it the other way around?).
It's a mid 17th century fountain by Bernini, which is supposed to have fresh water (I admit, I was too gutless to taste them).
It's very easy to miss it, as it is a very central location for groups' meeting and tourists taking photos of the Spanish Steps.

This is an interesting fountain located at the foot of the Spanish Steps. Designed by Bernini makes it worth seeing.

It is a very touristy area but worth the time to visit. You just have to wait a couple of minutes for the tour groups to disperse and you get to see the fountain up close. Nice during the day but a must to visit at night.

This is a unique fountain near the foot of the Spanish steps. I almost didn't see it because there are so many people that it gets obscured at times. As others have stated,it is very old but looks to be in great condition despite the hordes of people standing on and in it. I didn't get to have any of the fresh flowing water as it seemed impossible with all the people but have heard it's fantastic. I imagine if you get here very early in the morning it makes for a great photo op with the Spanish steps behind. This whole area is very clean and well maintained which is hard to believe in such an old and crowded city.

Bring an empty water bottle because the liquid coming out of the ship is the best in town. It could've been my thirst or the magic of the steps or the aqueduct's pipes, but it tasted delicious.

Bypass the tour groups and get close for your fill. It's fun to drink from a stone sculpture that's over 400 years old. So, try the water. It might be the best in Rome.
