“A Roman Institution”
Reviewed 17 November 2013

Before even unpacking I found myself back to this wonderful Roman institution.

Still elegantly attired staff and an array of pastries to have with your coffee either at the bar.
For me, 2 expressos at the bar to start the day became my routine for my 2 weeks in Rome.

More expensive to sit down~ crowded in the late afternoon for a drink but worth sapping up the history.

“Must visit”
Reviewed 14 November 2013

Just read marissabl's review. Nothing to add. Where else can you run into waiters wearing tail-coats? May be in Harry's bar?

“250 y.o. cafe as cultural experience”
Reviewed 24 October 2013

I would say it is a must. And all guides in Rome say the same. This place is very old with a great history. This year it celebrates 250 anniversary.
When you are inside you feel like you are in museum with all this paintings. It is perhaps the best known and oldest bar in Rome. Historic figures including Stendhal, Goethe, Byron, Wagner, and even Casanova have had coffee there...and many others I believe.
You should remember one very important thing about drinking coffee in Italy: if you drink it at the bar it will cost you much less then if you will take the table. And Greco is not an exception. Your coffee there will cost you only 2 EURO if you will say that you will drink it at the bar.

“Typical old Italian coffee shop”
Reviewed 12 October 2013

This coffee shop definitely gives the feel of an old Italian coffee shop. It's as if you expect a prominent Italian 'famoso', politician or even maffioso to enter at any moment. Maybe this feel is achieved because of its positioning in Via Condotti, a street famous for its designer shops and rich creme de la creme shoppers.
