This was my second stay at the Albergo del Sole. It has a great location on the Piazza della Rotonda and you can walk to just about anything in Rome from here. The rooms are comfortable and a bit quirky, in a good way. The breakfast buffet is very good. The staff at the front desk was helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: If you like quiet, ask for a room away from the piazza.

We just got back from our two-week anniversary trip to Italy and Rome was our first stop. Also we've been to other countries in Europe, this was my first trip to Italy. Staying at the Albergo del Sole was the best decision we could have made!!.. From the first moment we booked we received great follow up emails, They arranged for a very professional driver Alessandro to pick us up from the airport. We were informed ahead of time that there was construction in the building we were staying but that the view from our room had no obstruction. This made us a bit nervious...but once we got there, all concerns disappeared!!!...what a lovely room and dream view!!..Penthouse room 501 in the Annex building!! has two levels, a cute balcony, amazing views from the bedroom and bathroom...and a private terrace!!, privacy was excellent!, no street noise...(you might want to consider a different room only if: you are taller or prefer beds that are not very firm). Also, if you need internet connection 100% of the time while in your room you should ask to be on the main building, where the connection works great. For us that was not an issue, since being online was the least of our priorities and only checked emails during breakfast for a couple of minutes. The staff couldn't have been more pleasant, always with a smile, super helpful and professional, each person made us feel like we were their priority!!..Pietro gave us tons of recommendations to help us figure out were to go and how to get there...and the delicious bottle of Prosseco with the lovely note that was waiting for us in the room as a welcome for our anniversary made our first days in Rome just perfect, a fantastic start to our dream vacation!!. We will absolutely return to Albergo del Sole in our next visit to Rome!

Room Tip: For a dream view of the Pantheon and to feel like you have your own place in the heart of Rome, ask...

Located right in the Piazza della Rotonda, with views of the Pantheon, this hotel could not be better situated to explore the heart of Rome's Centro Storico. The lobby and common areas are nice, the staff were welcoming and attentive. The interior is beautifully decorated and the building's history is evident all around, and very clean and well-kept. We stayed in a Double Superior Room, with a view of the piazza and Pantheon. While we were on the 1st floor (2nd floor to the U.S.) we were high enough up to avoid too much street noise, especially when the windows are shut. There was one particular accordion player who came around the same time each day and played the same songs, it got a little irritating but it's just part of the Roman experience. Breakfast was lovely, the patio was quiet and calm. Your typical assortment of European breakfast choices, nothing spectacular but overall we were satisfied. The shower in the room was amazing!
This hotel is a 5-10 minute walk to the Trevi fountain, 2 minutes to Piazza Navona, 15-20 minutes to the Spanish Steps, and 20-25 minutes to the Colosseum/Roman Forum. We didn't require a bus, metro, or taxi to get anywhere - this is such a central hotel.
All in all, the location made this the best choice for us; our only, single complaint would be the bed - it's two twins pushed together and is very hard - far and away the worst hotel bed of hundreds we've slept in.
NOTE - Watch for specials on the hotel website. We were paying half what many other people were paying - and we booked direct.

Room Tip: Pantheon view is worth the price - this hotel appears to be going thru renovations, you may want to...

Cool hotel on a plaza in front of the pantheon . Restaurants line the plaza with a coffee shop across the walk way. A deli is across the plaza. Breakfast served on a roof top patio. Walk to the fountain, steps, subway etc.

My daughter and I stayed here for two nights in early September 2013. We found the staff very professional and extremely helpful, happy to make recommendations and always on hand to answer any queries. We stayed in room 110 and it was immaculately clean. The breakfast was A1, everything fresh and inviting. At night we opened the windows and the shutters and let the sound float up from the piazza as we wanted to savour every bit of atmosphere and every minute of our holiday. It is indeed a magical location. The hotel is an excellent base from which to explore Rome. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this hotel. Many thanks to all the staff for making our trip to Rome so memorable.

Room Tip: We stayed in 110. Great view of the Pantheon and the Piazza

This hotel is centrally located in Rome, in the Piazza della Rotunda (Pantheon). The rooms are fairly clean, small, and dimly lit. Walls are paper thin, and any hallway noise feels like it's in your room. Our bathroom was poorly maintained, and we noticed mold in the seams of the tub. Also, it looked like the bathroom was renovated quickly and on the cheap. Joints were not properly aligned, and there was some trim was missing around the tub. Plaster in the room was chipped, and there was a layer of dust on the mirror frame in the room.
Staff at the hotel are rude and arrogant, and seemingly unwilling to help. I felt like a bother when asking for restaurant recommendations (The reply was: "It's Rome, all the restaurants are good."). Breakfast was outstanding and the staff at breakfast were courteous and attentive.
That being said, we spent little time in the room during the day, as Rome is full of things to see. Stop by Ristorante Fortunato next to the hotel or Antonio's around the corner for a great meal.
Spend the extra money and stay at Albergo del Senato in the same Piazza. I have stayed before and it far surpasses Sole.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view, or stay elsewhere.

I'll admit that I stayed here because I was just too lazy to do a proper search for hotels in Rome and this place was vaguely mentioned to me as a cheap-ish hotel by an Italian friend. Also, I was only staying one night. That said, it's fine. It's not super clean, it's not bright or even all that memorable. I'm not even sure what's the reason to stay here aside from its location, which overlooks the Pantheon, but it's also loud. The afternoon I arrived there was a busker playing a guitar and singing in the middle of the courtyard, which for me is annoying. No fault of the hotel, of course. A plus is that it's next door to that Da Fortunato restaurant, which was really good, classic Italian food. I got spahgetti al pomodoro and it was delicious. I'd say if you can find another hotel in this price range, go for it. If not, the hotel's not a tragedy to spend a night here. The front desk people were very nice and kind, for the record.
