This place is no where close to a motel 6 let alone a 4 star hotel. the management is beyond rude specially the old woman. they advertise they apartment building as a 4 star hotel and when you get there they tell you oops you reserved it like that. the facility is super duper old. the elevator feels like the first elevator invented and feels so unsafe. the mattress is super uncomfortable and we developed a backache. they literally put the worst taste about rome in our mouth. there are so many better hotel for the price of ana ram and a leg they charge. please do yourself a favor and don't even go close to this place.

Sooooo.... where to begin?
Arrived for four night stay, "family sized room" consisted of a master bed room w/ attached bath. No windows and low, sloped ceilings. Bed very uncomfortable! 2nd bedroom was an annex space with no door, and a foldout couch as bed. Again, very uncomfortable. 3rd room was a living room with yet another fold out couch!!! There are no doors so privacy was a real issue. There was a "balcony" off this room w/ a view of the pantheon. Had to be a contortionist to get out though. No other windows anywhere except above your head!
You need to be shorter than 6' to not bump your head on the doorways.

THE BATHROOM
Only one bathroom? Not good for a family of five! Water pressure was low, barely any hot water, and to top it off, there's a shelf next to the jacuzzi, that flows water right onto the floor when you take a shower! Ended up with multiple gallons of water on the floor the first day once I realized you had to waste a towel to block it. The shower head was broken and wouldn't stay in the upright position. Daughter took a jacuzzi bath, but couldn't figure out how to unstop the drain plug afterwards. Went to call the front desk (dial 9) but the was no in room phone! Had to use the freely provided cell phone and dial directly. Once connected the woman asked why I didn't call using the "9" on the phone. I tried to explain that there was no phone but I don't think she understood. Eventually she sent someone over to fix the broken plug so the rest of us could shower.

BREAKFAST
Nice seating area. Selection of food was adequate but not overwhelming.

ENTRANCE/ELEVATOR

The "annex" entrance was not lit at night, there is smelly trash right in the foyer, and the elevator only holds three people (barely). Our room was on the 5th floor, so multiple trips were required. Every time we stepped into the elevator, it would sink an inch or two and bounce. Not a comfortable feeling!

WI-FI
Forget it! Connection was weak at best and continuously dropped. There was no signal in the master bedroom.
-----------
I was very disappointed in the quality of this hotel and would not recommend it to anyone. I will pass this info onto the travel agent (Sireon tours) and ask that they review their recommendation for this place.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for having taken a few moments to share your experience.

The Albergo del Sole enjoys the prestige of being the oldest hotel in Rome, is not our custom to deceive our guests, in fact, the overwhelming majority of them, deeply satisfied by our treatment, back to visit us often.

We can understand that the room did not reflect your expectations and for that reason we changed the room immediately at the check in.
So you had the choice between the two available suites at your arrival.

Full description of all our rooms is available in the catalogs of the agencies we work with. We are sorry if you didn't read this information carefully includind that all Suites has only one bathroom.
After your departure we checked and the shower worked perfectly. If you needed an explanation of how to use it, we would be happy to give you.

We are sorry for incorrect information with the number to contact the front desk. We remind you that when you called with your own cell phone, you didn't say your name and who you were. You just asked the number to contact the front desk. From the rooms in the main building is right the number 9 that you have to do.

Regarding the wi-fi connection it is perfectly functional in the main lounghe, maybe in the bedroom the signal is a bit lower but never absent.

We invite you to visit all the historical buildings of the city center, dated back more than a thousand years ago. In no one you will find an large elevator simply because by law, is not possible to change the structure of the building.

Your review is clearly excessive and we are ready to expose our reasons also through the agency.

Best regards,

Yurima Gonzalez

I highly recommend this hotel! Location, location, location. Walking distance to everything! Restaurants nearby were fabulous. We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights August 2017! Our view from our room was breathtaking! Our room was a one bedroom suite that accommodated our family of 5. We had 2 terraces. One had a beautiful view of the Pantheon and the other had a table and even a lemon tree! Bathrooms were clean, plenty of hot water and clean towels. Beds were comfortable. Breakfast was delicious! Coffee, cappuccino, croissants, eggs, bacon etc... hearty breakfast! Wifi was spotty but really people get off your phones and experience ROME! We really loved this hotel! Staff was amazing and schedules airport car services and all our tours! When we go back we will defiantly stay at this hotel again!

The hotel has a prime + location, you are just next to the Pantheon, perfect to make early morning photos without people :)

The location:
Here is were the hotel shines, has the location of a 5 stars hotel, just next to the Pantheon.

Reception:
When we arrived there was a tall lady, not sure if she was the owner or person in charge of the administration, the case is that as it was very hot she asked us if we wanted something to drink, we said grape juicie, but she brought cold champagne, who can say no to that? Cold champagne it is! :) . All good here :)

Rooms:
I like the room, is was a suite with two levels, one in the first level with a TV and a chaise longue, the second level a double bed next to the bathroom and with its own Tv. There was also a big painting on the wall that surrounded the two levels, nice touch, although not sure it was an oil or just a printed one.
The weak part of the room is the light, although in the first level the door is made of crystal and the natural light can enter, the second level has no windows so just artificial light.
Besides that all was ok

The breakfast
The area is small, is just next to our suite, the food is basic like a 3 stars breakfast, the thing that i didn't like it is that there were persons looking arround and i had the feeling that they suffered everytime i came back for more eggs or jam :) haha

Will i come back?
If i get a good offer, very possible.
I have read some reviews about an 'annex' hotel, i hope that's not the case, cause the main point of been here is the location of this hotel, so reconfirm you will be in the real hotel and not in the annex before booking or arriving.

Cheers

We were given an "upgrade" to a room in another building: walk 40 yards across a square to another entrance. As you enter, walk past the garbage bins on your left located in a poorly lit vestibule, turn on the hallway lights as you walk/elevator up. While the room was actually quite large, most of the space was dedicated to the dining room - not a room we had much need for. Breakfast was mediocre. We would have been far, far happier with the room we thought we had singed up. Apparently it was not available.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for stay with us during your visit to Rome and for having taken a few moments to share your review.

We regret that after our effort in giving you a Family Suite, with the lateral view over the Pantheon and so admiring one of the oldest monument in the world, you didn't want to make a mention on this review.

There is no track of complaints or comments from your side during your short
stay with us. It would have been a pleasure to solve any kind of problem and provide for another alternative.

The Sole al Pantheon always leaves its doors open and would be a pleasure offer you a different accommodation in a future stay.

Best regards,

Yurima Gonzalez
