“nice hotel but poor facillites for guests”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 October 2013

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel on the 4th October 2013 for 3 nights on booking this hotel I was assured it was only a short journey to the centre of Rome we landed at ciampino airport to find that it was in fact around a hour away it then cost us 40 euro in a taxi not a great start to our trip we then were taken to the suburbs of Rome where this hotel is situated and I can honestly say the hotel is a totally random building to be situated in amongst such a rough and poor area however inside the hotel is very nice the staff on the other hand are not particularly the most helpful breakfast is between 7-10 other than between these hours no food or refreshments can be purchased AT ALL which is absolutely a absurd for a 4* hotel! We then ventured out in to the streets which was very dodgy and scary to say the least there are no bars restaurants nothing a tiny pizzeria that was it. Later our first day we decided to try and make our way to the city centre again on asking hotel staff they tried to be helpful but we were very confused on where exactly to go and resorted to asking a local on the street who spoke little English but kindly walked us to the bus stop we then took the 558 bus to subagusta then had to go on the underground to the stop termini on arriving we thought thank god a bit more biz and life but on wandering around were again disappointed and thinking is this it? On the Saturday we done the same trip back to termini and decided to take the open bus tour which I would 100% percent recommend to anyone visiting Rome we got to see all the sights main attractions and could hop off and on as many times as we wanted I would highly recommend hopping off at basstini there is so much to see in this area trevi fountain, pantheon, colluseum, beautiful cathedrals just tons in this area eventually we were enjoying our trip! But at the end of the evening had the dreaded treck back too the hotel so we couldn't just chill in the city centre and enjoy or even get a bit tipsy as had to keep our Whits about us for the journey back. On the trip back I noticed the metro went as far as basstini and even further still in to the city so by day 3 we were on bus then metro straight in to the heart of it all I feel had we been informed on where exactly to go from the beginning we could have had so much more out our time in Rome as side all my moaning Rome is a beautiful city and well worth a visit we had a great time (eventually) I just would never recommend staying at the artis far to far away they really need to make print outs detailing travel options too guests serve meals and have a bar that is actually open!

Room Tip: The rooms at this hotel are very nice clean and had no problems getting a good nights rest we were 3...

Dear Customer,
We regret that the position of the hotel and the bad behavior of a taxi driver have affected his stay. Our position is visable on all of our websites and our staff is always very clear when asked to explain the times and ways to reach the city center, especially for customers who have yet to book. I can imagine that those who have sold our hotel telling you that is near the center is an agency, so we have no guilt. I strongly encourage the next time to use all the tools available provided by the web to see if the location of the hotel that suits you chose for your holiday.

Clean & tidy hotel found through Groupon, with helpful staff albeit basic amenities. Breakfast is traditional continental self-serve; restaurant wasn't open; bar limited drink - but a G&T is Gin and Lemon!
We knew it wasn't in the centre, but taxi fairs are very dear. With your own/rented car, 30 minutes into the city, but watch out for Italian drivers - they are a law unto themselves!

Dear Customer, Thank you for your comment. We are happy that you have found a clean and tidy and the staff of these services. In six months the opening of the metro line C will help us to reduce our distance from the center. If you were to return to Rome after that date we are confident that we will consider. See you soon.

Staff at hotel are pleasant. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Restaurant opens now and again. Bar seems to open as and when and often shuts at 10pm, even with customers in and drinking.
It takes for ever to get into Rome, well it seems like along time,45mins at least. You need bus then metro, not bad going to Rome but journey back, after a long day is a real pain, and then the bar shuts!
On the plus side there is La Villetta Trattoria 5 mins up the road, good food, hospitable staff and owner.

Hotel I'd ok. Nice clean room, friendly staff etc but no one said that the bar and restaurant opening were very limited. Also Rome centre is bloody miles away !! We new it wasn't in the centre but this is ridiculous !! This is why I gave this hotel a lesser rating than I might have.

Hello Jerry,
Thank you so much for the great review. We just know that you have found a fantastic staff and services of excellent quality. Unfortunately for us the position remains an issue on which we can do very little, at least until the new metro line will be inaugurated in June 2014. We will have a metro stop 200 meters away and you can reach Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano in 10 minutes instead of the 40 that are used today. If you decide to go back to Rome next year, do not hesitate to contact us.

Me and my boyfriend had a lovely stay at Hotel Artis, rooms were modern and very clean. Staff were polite, especially Vincent who works on the bar, me and my boyfriend spent a few hours on our first night sitting chatting to him, lovely guy. Great restaurant just round the corner which I personly found nicer than some of the food places in the centre, better food and value for money! In regards to getting to the centre of Rome....I think people enjoy moaning. The transport was great, we never waited more than 10 minutes for bus 558, and the metro takes you straight into the centre. Half an hour journey, tops! None of this 45 minutes to an hour business! Buy a weekend/week transport ticket and all costs are covered. If you do a little research there is also a night bus that takes you from Termini straight outside the hotel after the metro stops, so we still were able to go drinking in the evenings. Sit back and enjoy mingling with the locals instead of moaning about travelling round Rome! The locstion of the hotel wasn't an inconvineice at all! Great clean, modern hotel for a great price. Would stay again. Thanks!

I chose to stay at the Artis because it was the hotel with the highest TripAdvisor rating near the University of Tor Vergata where I was working. The hotel is excellent value for money and ideal if you have reason to be in this part of the Roman suburbs. Otherwise there is not much going for the area around the hotel, as it is largely modern residential. The other reviews I read of the Artis are accurate - great hotel, boring area.
The hotel does a free breakfast and offers free wifi. The breakfast is very adequate, and the machine brewed espresso coffee is surprisingly good. There is a small bar and a couple of restaurants walking distance from the hotel. If you wanted to stay in a nice hotel, didn't have much cash, and didn't mind a short bus and metro train trip to central Rome (30+ min), you could do a lot worse than the Hotel Artis! My overall rating is for the hotel, not the area.

Upon our arrival to Hotel Artis we were greeted with the warmest of welcomes after struggling to find it - having landed at Fiumicino airport we followed the directions from the hotel website. These weren't as helpful as they could have been and we had to stop and ask people on two separate occasions for their help in finding our destination.
Don't get me wrong - the hotel is clean, staff friendly and will help you should you require it and the breakfast is a delight, however, the location was a great disappointment to both me and my partner. From the hotel you need to get a bus and then a tube to the center of Rome (this journey takes around 45-50 minutes without it being busy) which meant that we didn't want to keep going back and forth throughout our day so our days were long and tiresome! This wasn't the hotels fault, of course, but I think this should be highlighted for future guests.

Great hotel for business trips but if you want the 'real Italy', this isn't for you.

Dear Charlotte,
thank you very much for your kind review. We are happy you have found a warm welcome and great service. Unfortunately the hotel is not well connected to the center if you are using public transport. It is different if you are using your own transportation. We look forward to the opening of the new underground C, one of the stops will be just 200 meters from the hotel and will enable our customers to reach the city center in half the time. Kind regards.
