Met someone in Venice who insisted we go visit the church when in Rome and I am glad we listed to them and made this visit.
the church is beautiful and just outside the church is another portion where you have a huge baptismal octagonal font and a tiny chapel with mosaics from the 17th century I think. Make sure you visit these if going there. It is not in the church but a one minute walk from there.

John Lateran's Archbasilica, St. John Lateran's Basilica, and just The Lateran Basilica, is the cathedral church of the Diocese of Rome and the official ecclesiastical seat of the Bishop of Rome, who is the Pope.

loved the visit to this baroque church--huge interior, lovely mosaics, awesome ceiling. It's the seat of the Pope and exudes such a serene vibe. we got here by taking bus 571 from via castellana where we stayed.

We wanted a quiet period in Rome one day and visited this site. It is lovely, massive church, beautiful inside, good architecture and no-one there! Also free to go in.
