“My new go-to stay in Rome”
Reviewed 23 April 2012

After checking in through Mario's ristorante (attached), we were very politely escorted to our room, a spacious, and incredibly clean one bedroom suite, with gorgeous bathroom! The hotel is housed in an old building, but contrary to most hotels of this nature in Europe, this one has a very charming lift to help with your luggage. The location can't be beat for the price! We were a five minute walk to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. There are many restaurants nearby and the shopping is at your doorstep as well! This really was the perfect location for whatever reason you are travelling to Rome for. We also went to Mario's restaurant next door during one of our evenings for dinner. The service and food is impeccable. His mother was cutting fresh artichokes during the day - a true family run restaurant! For dinner, the waiter had us try a selection of items to familiarize ourselves with the region's specialties. Like I said, for foodies, shopping enthusiasts, or history buffs, this hotel is a great location and great value for your money.

I've been to many hotels before and have to say that this is one of the best. It's very difficult to fault it and I love it; as did my family.

Ok, so when considering to book te hotel prior to the holiday, we found that most reviews were short and not many people who wrote the reviews wrote them in English, so I thought I'd make my one as detailed as possible: the fact there were a lack of reviews made me think the staff didn't accommodate for English people but they do, so don't worry!

Prior:
I reccommend that you ring the hotel at 8-9 in the morning because it is part of a restaurant so they won't usually answer the phone after that time. We had some difficulty contacting them when booking but an email was sent and they replied within a couple of days. We even started to doubt it existed due to lack of information but it's 100% real!

The Location:
The location is good: about a 5 minute walk from the Spanish steps, 10 minutes or so to the Unknown Soldier and Trevi Fountain and 15 minutes from the Colusseum. Bus stops are not too far, and local services are nearby. It's all there. It's a bit tricky to find at first but just walk into the restaurant and ask for the room.

The Food:
We had bed and breakfast and so breakfast is the only food we ate from there. The restaurant itself is quite pricey so dinner was eaten elsewhere.
You could choose when to eat your breakfast: after 9:30 is in the restaurant and before 9:30 is in your room (you'd need to let them know if you choose this option).
On the Sunday, the restaurant was closed so they brought croissants, orange juice and cappuccino to our room. Pretty average and my complaint would be it was not home made and did not have much variety.
On every other day, we were given water, orange juice (freshly squeezed by them), croissants an doughnuts, cappuccino (or ask for a different type - with sugar), an omelette and fruit (if you asked). Once we were given a cheesecake thingy and it was lovely! Breakfast was in my opinion generally satisfactory and filling.

The rooms and features:
This was by far the best part. The stairs are marble and it has a lift which can carry 250kg. There aren't many rooms and we had the connecting suite on the second floor.
The outside has a pass code lock, whose code is given to you. Upon entering, there is a short flight of stairs to the lift and more stairs in the case that you don't want to use it.
In the connecting suite, the list of features include, but are not limited to:
- sound proofing: thick walls and seals on doors made it quiet at night
- wifi: a free code was given but didn't last the last day
- doorbells: this was particularly useful in our suite with individual rooms
- sensors: these sensed movement and turned on lights in selected areas
- controlled lights: lamps and many light switches were available (even by the bed) which allowed for different lights to be on or off.
- doorbell camera: a camera which links to the building's entrance which allows you to speak and unlock the door from your room.
- fridge with free replaced water (including sparkling) and juices
- Marble floors
- sofas and a sofa bed
- coffee machine with replaced coffee (however ours was faulty)
- a free safe where you can set yor own code
- a mini kitchen
- sky TV (some channels idn't work, as did the remote) and a flat screen Sony Bravia TV
- air conditioning and heating
- electric shower with various functions (although it did leak slightly through the door)
- towels (we had one missing)
- free dressing gowns and slippers
- hairdryer
- many plug sockets (2 prong)
- shaver light, soaps, gels, cotton buds, shoe shiner, lotions...
- remote controlled window in the bathroom
- Biday (have no idea how to spell it; sorry!)
- Secure doors with locks
- a bookcase
- instruction manuals
- We were told all beds are Queen Size

The Building:
Clean, modern and well maintained. Very good.

The staff:
All very friendly, most spoke English and were helpful. Good.

Price and Star Rating:
We paid around £1,600 for 4 nights and it's worth the money for this well-earned 5 star hotel. Choose Suite Della Vite next time you book for Rome.

Cannot fault these suites. Perfectly situated near Spanish steps, main shopping street and fabulous restaurants. Try Mario's downstairs, tradition Tuscan cooking and restaurant "Life" a few doors down.On Via Frattina try Palatium. Suites Staff couldn't have been more helpful and courteous. These suites are a welcome change from the expensive hotels with tiny rooms. Coffee maker, croissants and free soft drink mini bar. Breakfast in restaurant amazing amount of food. Can be quite noisy in room early morning (street cleaners). would definitely book again.
