“Fuss free stay”

We had 2 nights in this hotel as part of our Trafalgar tour and found our stay to be slightly above average. Being part of a group of 52, we understand that not everyone could be given a nice room with pleasant views. As such, we were in room 001 which looks like it was meant to cater for people with disabilities. Being on the ground floor, it also meant that we had no views as the windows were on the same levels as the road outside.

Nonetheless, the rooms were spacious and clean. Towels were changed and the rooms cleaned the following day so it was nice to come back to that. We were able to get a good night's sleep and I guess that was the main priority for us.

We booked with Broadway travel for a two night stay. Upon arrival we were told there was a 'problem' with the room and they would try and resolve it within 20 mins. As we had tickets for the Vatican we freshened up in reception and left. Upon returning to the hotel several hours later there was still no room. We were told we would be staying our 2 nights in the holiday inn. This was a further 10 mins out of town, which incurred us further costs back and forth to the city. Incredibly dissapointed. No appology, no compensation, nothing.

We booked a four night stay with BA and thought the price was very reasonable. The hotel is clean and appears to be well maintained. The staff are helpful (although see below) and polite.
Because of its location we found it too tiring to go back into central Rome for dinner in the evenings and so ate locally in a couple of restaurants.

The first night we were there, we were woken at 4.30 in the morning by a group leaving the hotel.
The next night we had to change rooms as we had been placed amongst a school group. We were on the first floor and the large group of teenagers in the room next door to us were smoking and jumping from the windows. It took 2 complaints for us to be offered another room that night. The first room we were offered was for disabled residents, and we were assured that despite it being right opposite the end of the corridor where the toilets, stairs and classroom facilities were, and right next to a noisy vent, it was the quietest room in the hotel! We were finally shown into room 7. This is at sub ground floor which meant the small window looked out onto the car park, was covered with wire mesh and our view was of peoples legs. But it was a quiet room.
The next day another tour party of approximately 50 people arrived, then on the third day another school. So in total three very large groups were trying to get breakfast at the same time.
The hotel, because it has parking facilities and is cheap is probably used by a lot of coach and school parties. The teachers do not do anything to discourage bad behaviour and the hotel staff appear to have no control.
When we complained the day after we were moved that we were now in a considerably smaller room, with no view and a window that looked like a prison cell, the reception staff seemed to suddenly not speak very good English. We didn't even get an apology.

Only recommended if you are a school party or can sleep through anything.

Room Tip: Don't go here if you need your sleep. Or check that there won't be any school trips at the s...

We booked through Broadway Travel, including transfers. We arrived to be told that our room wasn't ready, and were asked to return an hour later. This was surprising as we hadn't been warned this could be an issue. They said they would store our luggage. We had left Gatwick at 7am that morning, so really wanted to rest in our room. We were told that it was a twin room - we had specified that we wanted a double. We were told that we could have a double the next evening, but nothing could be done at that time. The hotel is in a quiet area and there wasn't much to see or do so we decided to head into central Rome which is a 20 min bus ride.
We returned to our room which was very nice.
Breakfast was OK, but nothing special. The fruit was tinned (disappointing in a 4 star hotel) and limited in choice. In Italy they provide cakes, but these tasted like supermarket ones - not very nice. The cooked breakfast was OK.
We went to reception expecting to be allocated a different room, but were told we would have the same room, with the beds together to make a double. We still don't understand why if that was all that needed to be done, they couldn't have made our room up as a double on our first day when they said that it wasn't ready for us......
The beds didn't fit well together and there was a gap down the middle.
On our final night we got back to the hotel and it was noisy (at about 7.30). We quickly realised that there was a school group. The hotel information stated that sleep-time starts at 10pm and noise should cease. The noise continued after 10pm with the young people in the rooms below us jumping in and out of the windows. We were unable to phone reception because the phone in the room didn't work. At about 11pm my husband went to see the receptionist who said he would sort it out. Nothing happened. I went downstairs and spoke to the young people myself. There were about 10 in one room, some were smoking. About 1/4 hour later my husband went and spoke to them. The noise continued so I went to reception where I was offered the option of changing rooms, and was assured that they would do something. We didn't want to move rooms at midnight. The noise continued with the young people still jumping in and out of their rooms, so my husband went to reception and was given the key for a room we were told would be quieter. By now it was 1am and we were reluctant to move, but desperate for sleep. It was my birthday and we were travelling home later that day. We moved room and bumped into another lady who had been complaining about the noise and was being offered another room. She too had complained several times already. We ended up being moved from a nice room with two large windows, sofa, etc into a basement room with one small high up window having bars on it and no sofa. It was quiter until about 6am when we realised that we were by the staff storage area and umpteen trollies - presumably cleaning trolleys passed our room waking us up. At this point I went out and spoke (rather grumpily) to the staff member who happened to be passing our room with the trolley.
We were checking out that day and complained to reception that we felt we had been punished for the young people's bad behaviour. He said that had we complained the day before he could have given us a refund --????? Huh? He said there was nothing he could do. He then got the manager. The manager simply said sorry and made no effort to make amends. Eventually they said that they would pay our local taxes (£12) and we could have a free drink at the bar. We were told we could make a written complaint to the directors.
I wouldn't recommend this hotel. It may be a nice building, but the staff really do not care and have no idea about customer service - though it may be that they are simply doing as they are told.

Room Tip: Ask to be away from any coaches or school trips!

We stayed for 4 nights 31 march to 4 April, never again. Although the hotel is clean and modern it had various school coach parties and was so noisy. We asked for a quiet room when booking and again on check-in but our room was over where the coaches parked. One night there were coaches reversing under our window at 11.35pm and again at 12.25am. At 6.20am they were running up the engines again. Breakfast on day one entailed clearing and laying your table as school children were everywhere and not enough staff to cope. The scrambled eggs and bacon were cold on the two mornings we tried them before reverting to the cereal/croissant option. The restaurant food in the evening had small portions and was lukewarm. The best place to eat is in the bar where Rashid the barman can order pizza from the kitchen, it actually arrives hot and was very good. He is the most friendly of all the staff we encountered. When we voiced our complaint to the manager on check-out(we had phoned reception to complain about the noise
on various nights) all he said was 'we are sorry'. Not a lot of help as we had little sleep on this trip. Location is a little way out but was billed as a quiet location which it is when all the coaches/children etc. settle down. We walked to the Metro station and bought a 3 day Metrebus Roma ticket at the airport for 16.50Euros each which was great value as it covers bus travel as well.

We booked a 3 night, off season package thru Broadway Travel. When we arrived we were told there was a problem with the rooms on the top floor. They therefore provided a taxi to take us a short distance to the Crowne Plaza, where we spent our first night. We walked back the next morning and had to remind them of their promise of an Executive room, a bottle of wine and a free mini bar. The wine arrived eventually and the mini bar had softies only - oh dear! The bed was comfortable but the bedside lights were useless for reading. The safe was too small for our ipad and was in a dark cupboard so you could not see the keypad. The breakfast was very average, not a patch on the Crowne Plaza. Insulation was poor, be prepared to listen to your neighbours plumbing in the morning. Buses to the metro station and St Peters stopped right outside and we purchased a Roma Pass to make life easy.

The hotel was clean and modern with the room bigger than most European rooms. The location was not great. You cannot really walk anywhere (you can walk to the train). We took a cab everywhere. Also, the room was really hot (79 degrees). We complained three times, with all three times them telling us that the thermostat wasn't broken. (It wouldnt' turn on). At a certain point we gave up because they weren't really friendly. The hotel is eco friendly, which means when you leave the room, you take your room key out of a key holder. This turns off all electricity. Due to how unpleasant the room was, because of the heat (and the staff's response), as well as the location, I wouldn't stay here again. There was one guy (David) at the restaurant, who was absolutely wonderful.
