Santa Maria in Via was ordered constructed by Pope Innocent VIII and it was built in 1491-1513. The decoration of the church is simple. The main altar is quite good and there is a dome over it. The church has little natural light.

This was a church that was not on the plans and that we visited by chance.
It is just behind the Galleria Alberto Sordi (main entrance in Via del Corso) and it seemed that wasn't visited by tourists very often. Don't expect the environment of the big churches, it is a church "for the romans" in the way that it is more a church for praying than for visiting (if I can explain my thought right). You may feel some "strange" looks upon you :-) so you understand right away that it is not usual such visitors there.
It's a small church but very pretty and interesting with a dark and cozy atmosphere. In this "small" space, compared to the main churches of Rome you visit, you'll find small side altars good cared with paintings, saints and gilded woodwork. It has no paintings or sculptures of any of the great names of Art History. A religious silence takes all the space.
But the main interest and characteristic of this church is the legend that says that it was built over a miraculous well, and still today that well has water. In the first altar by your right you still may drink water of that miraculous well, that now has a pump installed to be easier to provide the water to believers.
It is not a must see, but if you're passing by just take a look.

This is a nice little church with a lovely facade, but a rather ordinary and small interior.
Is it worth a visit?
Well, if you can spare 5 minutes and the church is on your way from point A to point B, then yes. Otherwise - it's certainly not a "must see" in Rome.
