“Excellent little hotel near vatican”
Reviewed 19 May 2014

Not much to complain about.
Location: The hotel is only about a 5-7 minute walk away from the Ottaviano metro station. There are also a couple of shopping streets nearby and several nice restaurants in the area. Also within walking distance of the Vatican and Castel St. Angelo (and thus the bridge into the city center) is only about a 15 minute walk away. The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating which is always a plus. The breakfast was perfectly adequate with the standard selection of a few cereals, juice coffee, a selection of breads and cold cuts. The hotel and room were also very clean. It is a very small hotel, but how much time do you spend hanging out in the hotel when you're on vacation sightseeing. I would have no reservations about recommending this hotel to others.

....then this is a great hotel for you to stay at! It is only steps away from the metro station Ottaviano and the metro is better than its reputation. It is also close to St. Peter's of course and a shopping street. It only takes about 15 minutes to walk to the Piazza Navona area. Also, the price tag is not a shocker. Hotel prices in Rome are in general very high. For about 160 EUR/night at high season we stayed 4 nights) you will get modern rooms, baths and a breakfast with ample choices. Also, the hotel personnel is very friendly and they have a 24 hr reception.
The only reason this hotel did not get 5 points is that the hallway sometimes smelled musky, the doors needed to be shut really hard when leaving the room and the A/C did not work which was not a problem since it was May and it was not particularly warm. I am sure they would have fixed it though if we had asked. All in all I would definitely return to this hotel!

We were here for just on night and were very pleased with everything about this hotel. Nothing to look at from the outside, as it's in a condo building. BUT, huge rooms for a Rome hotel, very comfortable and well appointed. Great value, friendly service and staff.

Walking distance to the Vatican and a few blocks form a great restaurant ,Ragno D'Oro
Via Silla, 26 00192 Roma.

Would certainly come back.

Room Tip: As this is in a condo building, all of the rooms are away from the street and in Rome, this is a won...

We stayed here for six nights in February and what a great location and base to visit the sights of Rome. In Walking Distance of the Vatican City , Metro and shops and restaurants. The reception staff were very helpful and Wifi is free. The metro was very cheap and easy to use.
Don't be put off by the outside of the building inside the hotel is very comfortable and clean.
If you are visiting the Vatican city or any other sights please consider paying the extra for a guide. This way you will be fast tracked through the queues which are often 3-4 hours long. This is well worth the extra. The hotel is very good value for money and the location is fab!
Recommended if visiting Rome.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights. We are very pleased with the hotel and service. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean with a comfortable bed. Towels are replaced every day. Breakfast is a bit repetetive, but there is always a choise between some sweet and savory stuff. Convinient location near the metro Ottaviano. I would recommend this hotel without doubt.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 4 nights over new years eve and highly recommend the hotel. We arrived mid morning and were able to check straight into our room, we got a taxi from the hotel but it is possible to get bus/train/shuttle - we paid 40 Euros.

The room was a reasonable size for a 'small double' with plain décor, kettle, safe. wardrobes and tv. The bathroom good size with shower and a small selection of free gels/creams etc.
The room was clean on arrival and each day cleaned and towels replaced. Each day there was free pastries and juice to take! My only very small moan would be not any normal tea bags and little milk -but we asked at reception for more.

Breakfast served between 630 - 1030 and later on New Years day was a bonus! It was simple buffet with a selection of cereals, cakes, bread, cheese, meat, yogurts and fruit. Both coffee and juice available. The area small but again clean and the lady in the breakfast area was fantastic - very friendly and helpful...and smiley on News Years Day when I can imagine she really didn't want to be in work!!

Reception staff friendly and helpful with maps/directions and restaurant suggestions. We found a great restaurant which was suggested to get there - left out the door, left, right. left! Easiest way to describe - amazing food and atmosphere.

The location of the hotel is off a main street with the tube 2 mins around the corner and a 5 min walk to the Vatican and St Peters. We did walk to all the other attractions in the centre via the bridge next to the castle. It took approx. 30 mins to walk to the Colleseum. If you want a central hotel then this isn't the hotel for you, however if wanting to be near the Vatican this is ideal.

When visiting attractions such as the Vatican/Sistine chapel buy tickets online 20 Euros each then skip the queue by going to the entrance - it doesn't matter what time your ticket states its for it will let you in on the day. Don't buy from the touts outside they double the cost!!
The Colliseum we queued for 30 mins from the entrance at the walls but some days the queue was all of the way around the building. Again you can purchase online and skip the queues.

Avoid the lucky lucky men who like to come out near the hotel when it rains with brollies and on a night with designer bags and red roses!!

I would recommend visiting the gardens at the top of the square and hiring a bike to get around the park (or a sedgeway). visit the Trevi Fountain at night as its quieter.

Fantastic trip away for new year and the hotel made it perfect - thank you to the staff who worked over the festivities.

While not particularly unique in decor, Hotel Excel St. Peter is an excellent value, provided the size of the rooms, free breakfast, free internet, and convenient location. The location is awesome! It is a mere 3-5 minute walk from the Ottaviano Metro stop and oh-so-close to many great restaurants and shopping places near Vatican City. The breakfast was excellent and the staff was very courteous. If you are looking for the slightly quieter and certainly less expensive part of the city, book here! There is plenty to do and plenty of great food to eat in this more off-the-beaten-path area. I highly suggest nearby Pizzarium by the Cipro stop for some unbeatable pie and L'Arcangelo for a fancy Italian experience!
