Spend your accommodation money elsewhere. This so called luxury guesthouse is far from being luxurious, It is sparsely and plainly furnished. The staff are friendly but one in particular seemed to spend all day on the phone on what had to have been private phone conversations, the place is very loud and any sounds in reception echo through the whole building. I have read other reviews stating that the breakfast was great, I can't understand this as our breakfasts for our 4 day stay consisted of a cup of tea and a very small bread roll (what we would call a dinner roll in Australia). I don't need much for breakfast but this was terrible, we usually just went to the supermarket nearby and bought fruit and yoghurt. The building is old, smelly and basically a fire hazard, if we hadn't of paid in full in advance I would of left this place and booked into one of the many other motels in the area. I would definitely not recommend staying in this place.

Dear Guest,

we finally got the TripAdvisor Property's access needful to give us the possibility to reply to your comment and inform you and all those read the previous reviews that, from July 26th, Domus Via Veneto has a new management.

I saw that you've spent your stay in June 2013 and some amenities haven't been offered following the qualitative standard required for a Luxury Guest House...

However, we'll be really happy if you can give us one more chance to show you how many things has been improved, like the breakfast service(in quantity and quality), the welcome procedure and specially the room cleaning !!

I also would like to suggest you to see the last reviews received through all on-line travel agency that everyday are glad to cooperate with Domus Via Veneto and with 2 more Guest House that our Property has in Rome. ....(and 2 more opening soon)

Best regards and greetings from Eternal City.

The location is very good, everything in Rome is within walking distance and the metro to the station or the Vatican is nearby. The neighborhood is also safe, because of the U.S. embassy etc..
The staff is very friendly.
The rooms (we had the Raffaello) are spacious, clean and equipped with wifi/wired internet. The bathroom is also very clean.
The breakfast is top notch. When you check-in the staff asks the composition of the breakfast and brings it to your door at the desired time.

The building in which the bed and breakfast is located is having work done currently, so there is a lot of dust. However, bad reviews concerning this and complaining about the lift should not be reflected on Domus Via Veneto itself. The staff are lovely and could not be more helpful. It was clean, private and comfortable. All you could need. It was not hugely central but it was still walking distance to the main attractions, however in the heat we often used the metro. The breakfast was a nice added bonus also. Definitely recommend.

We arrived at this "luxury" guest house, and were greeted by a very pleasant and knowledgeable young lady who showed us to our rooms. The rooms, by Italian standards were of a reasonable size and nicely appointed. The area is quiet, up market and the beds are comfortable. We slept well.
The down side. The shower with the nice sliding door had been replaced with a shower curtain that a) didnt fit and was b) to long, so it blocked the plug hole. The toilet in the room was on the other side of the bidet (see picture on site) so I was glad my daughter was in there. I dont think I would have fitted. Breakfast seemed to change in quantity depending on which of the staff served you. The staff themeselves were pleasant and helpful. But advertising that they run reception from 7 to 11 when clearly they dont is annoying. On Tuesday there was no p.m. shift at all. Its not a lot of use having an emergency number to phone displayed on reception if forget your keys, cant get in and therefore can't read it. Maybe a guest card would help.
Would I recommend it? Well I am in two minds, but on balance probably not

Dear Mr kent,
thank you very much for your review on tripadvisor.
i would like to thank you for staying at domus via veneto during your stay in rome and i would like to thank you also because about our staff and service you have had very nice words.
i agree with you about the door shower but unfortunately we have alredy ordered the new door but we are still waiting for the delivering.
about the reception service hours we cover the service from 7.00 am to 11.00 pm 7 days per week, it's happen some times that employee have to do commission for other guests and in this case we put the emergency number and every guest can contact the staff by phone,
usually we don't give the hotel card with the number because guests have the telephone number when they made the reservation, anyway i will keep in consideration you very interesting suggestion.
thanks because in this case we can improve our service.
thank again for staying with us and i would like to suggest you to try again our service in the next stay in rome, for sure you will found service improved and shower fixed...

best regards

It may well be true that the building was run down and hidden and the lift leading to the rooms was not particularly pleasant but the truth cannot be said for the actual guesthouse itself.

The lobby of the small five suite guesthouse was bright and beautiful and upon arrival, the receptionist greeted us warmly and gave us our keys and a map and told us of all the best restaurants and attractions around the area.

The room was bright and large with beautiful decoration and a marble bathroom. The scenery outside our window was not pleasant and was just an ugly courtyard with a few industrial looking fans outside. However, we kept the thin curtains drawn the entire time and it was perfectly fine. It was extremely hot obviously being August but the fan in our room was superb and made us feel very comfortable and could be controlled easily with many different settings.

The breakfast was to die for and was delivered to our door at 9.30 on the dot as requested every morning. The breakfast included coffee, orange juice, pastries and breads.

I found the bed very comfortable and the room itself was perfect for us.

In addition to this, the hotel was in a great location. It was not extremely central but this was ideal for us. We did walk to the colosseum which took us 30 minutes and we did not need public transport to anywhere apart from the airport and Vatican City. Also, just a few metres away was a supermarket which was perfect for late night snacks and drinks.

I would definitely stay here again!

This is a not a hotel but a guest house as they claim, it is located in a great zone near Via Veneto. However, it is an apt.in a very run down building where they turned the rooms into sleepong rooms. It is not clean at all rather filthy. The building smells and the lift is very old in a bad condition. The first thing when you enter the "hotel or guest house" is a small almost dead and dry plant. The rooms are horribly decorated with pld furniture. The bed linens have holes and on one bed it had even stains like blood. The bathroom was not very clean with fungus in the shower. The shower was also clogged. They out the extra toilet paper inthe wc brush! This is totally disgusting!! And besides it is not cheap at all and you have to pay in advance. The city tax is charged afterwards and cannot be paid with credit card which is very fishy!!
The only positive thing is the italian young lady who is there on Saturdays. She had a great sense of customer service despite the nasty setting. She should deserve working in a much better hotel and not that pig sty!
Beware and follow my advice to not fall in this trap!

dear Guest, first of all thank you very much for choosing Domus Via Veneto during your stay in Rome. we always appreciate the comments by our guest also the negative one in orde to help us to improve our service. it's true when you say that the building needs to be renovated but how you can easily understand is noy something that we can manage, but you have also to take into consideration that you are in the centre of rome where all the bulding are historical building. anyway it is important to underlin that Domus Via Veneto has been completely renovated 18 months ago and for sure we accept that the forniture and the style choosen could not meet your expecation but we would underlin one more time that the Domus Via Veneto is completely new.
so other thingh that is absolutely true is that Domus Via Veneto is a Guest House and not Hotel, but this is clear everywhere, so i am sorry if when you make the reservation you was thinking to book a room in hotel.
at least, i am very sorry to not receive your complaint during your stay, you know we have reception service running from 7.00 am to 11.00 pm and during your stay you never inform us about your feeling, regarding the city local tax we ask to guest to pay upon arrival but we also accept payment on departure, is something that we do often......
i hope that my answer can help you also in clearify our position and believe me, every day we invest time and love to welcome our guest and reception open 16 hour per day is also because we would solve the problem directly with our guest, your satisfaction is our goal!
regards

Giovanni

We stayed in Rome for 4 nights as part of a 3 week trip in April 2013. We rented two rooms, one for a couple (Michaelangelo Room) and one for our mom (Botticelli Room). This place has a modest guest room set up and is located on the 4th floor of an older building. Don't expect a sign when you arrive at the location as you'll need to enter into the building and then look for an old elevator to get to the fourth floor. There will be signs leading you to the elevator with the name of the hotel indicated on the signs.

This place was well located near the Barberini Metro station, and is a 15 min walk to the Spanish Steps. Also there is a wonderful Italian restaurant called Il Fellini close by, highly rated on Tripadvisor. This place is also located right next to a grocery store which makes it convenient to stock up on food or drinks. The bed was also very comfortable. Plus, they serve you a decent complimentary breakfast to your door every morning. So this place indeed has a good thing going for it.

However there were disadvantages to staying here that will prevent us from returning. There were many mosquitoes in the rooms. After the first night I got bitten by mosquitoes and mentioned this to the front desk. The guy came by and pulled down the netting for the window but the mosquitoes kept coming in. My mother who stayed in a separate room and had her windows closed the entire time also got bitten on the face. I had hives all over my hands arms and face. This put a serious damper on our experience at this place.

Another thing which wasn't great about this place was that the staff did not seem to be that well informed about where to go to eat or things to do around the area. Thankfully, we did plenty of research ahead of time.

Note also that the hotel has a really heavy set of keys that they give you. There's a big key for the street level entrance, one for the 4th floor front door entrance, one for your room and even an extra key that you're not supposed to use. They aren't typical modern keys. These are heavy old-school keys you'd use to open up a old chest. Kinda charming, but this takes up quite a bit of space and adds considerable weight to your pocket or purse.
