My daughter and I stayed at the Hotel Locarno for 3 nights in May. The front desk staff is warm and welcoming and very helpful. Especially Barbara - who helped us with all our tours (and many changes) and dinner reservations and airport pick up. Hotel is in a terrific location and the rooftop bar is a gem. We spent part of an afternoon relaxing on the sofas after a long day of sightseeing. The hotel is "old world Rome" so if you are wanting a new, modern place to stay this is not for you. But if you want a clean, charming, and lovely place to experience Rome, I recommend the Hotel Locarno. The room was small but nicely decorated and very quiet. Will definitely be back.

My mom and I stayed here for four nights in October and both loved it. We had a big room in the hotel's second building - it was big with lots of windows and two balconies. The bathroom was admittedly a bit old fashioned (a shower head in a tub, with no shower curtain) but this didn't bother either of us - however if modern bathroom conveniences are very important to you, I wouldn't recommend this hotel!
Otherwise, it was perfect. Within walking distance of the Piazza del Popolo, the Spanish Steps, and the wonderful via Margutta, but still very quiet.
The hotel also has a beautiful rooftop terrace as well as an outdoor dining/cocktail area on the first floor that we really enjoyed. Drinks are expensive (as is everything in Rome) but you do get snacks on the side!

Room Tip: We loved our room in the separate building on the side street! We were told it was quieter than the main building.

Great position for this hotel a short walk to the Spanish steps an very close to piazza popollo.
Our small group of 11 took up 1/3 of the space at breakfast. The choice at breakfast was very good and service excellent. The decor would have been wonderful about 20 years ago . Now it's looking a little tired/ dusty. Rooftop bar was a plus but a pity you had to go downstairs to pay!
Beds were adequate and couldn't bend over in the shower. Lighting throughout was rather dim. Partly due to building work next door.
Glad to find the wifi worked in the room.

We ended our trip at this hotel in Rome. We loved our stay, it was well situated and the rooms were clean, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. Staff were helpful and friendly. They spent time at check in showing us where we were and the old elevator was charming.
The breakfast was great and the cocktail bar was amazing with great (if not a little expensive) drinks, a fabulous terrace, and wonderful music and atmosphere.
The only small issue we had was that there was a private function at the hotel terrace one night and when it was over the patrons leaving were really loud coming down the stairs and it went on for 45 minutes after 12.30am and we had to be up at 6 for the Vatican tour. It would have been good if someone at the hotel could have shepparded the guests out quietly so it was less disruptive.
Other than that highly recommend this hotel. There is a great square full of restaurants nearby and the via del corso, Spanish steps, and trevi fountain are all close by

This was our second stay at Locarno. That in itself should say enough. Quite the experienced (and truthfully) slightly spoiled traveler, I love this place. It's old charm, with all the amenities of a luxury hotel. It's art-deco, vintage style gives it class, (you are in ancient Rome after all).
It has a fantastic courtyard where they serve breakfast in warmer months, and Aperitivo (best Italian tradition ever) early evening, where a fun crowd gathers for cocktails, in a relaxed atmosphere. They are currently undergoing maintenance in the building next door (to expand to a 5-star hotel) so this is now closed, but the roof top bar offers the same service and great views of Rome. Don't be put off by the maintenance, you don't hear any noise. If you are concerned, request a room at the annex across the street. The location is very central. We walked everywhere from there, all the way down to the Colosseum. There are some good restaurant options near by on Via Ripetto, or cab it across to Trastevere! Hotel staff are lovely and helpful.

Room Tip: To be fair, our room 212 was average, only because of the colour (lilac) but all rooms are different and nicely styled. Have stayed at the annex across the street, great rooms there too!
