“Fantastic location which provides tranquility yet only a stones throw from Ancient Rome!”
Reviewed 27 September 2011

Wonderful location. Tucked away a couple of streets from the Colosseum, with all the bustle of Ancient Rome, yet this quaint little hotel manages to provide everything you need in a warm and welcoming environment, with the added benefit of peace and quiet where you need it most.

Even before our arrival, Mrs Khan, her daughter and the team were very helpful with arrangements. Upon arrival the welcome is warm and friendly, respectful of privacy yet offering the feeling that nothing is any trouble.

Rooms are simple, well appointed, nicely styled and clean. Very comfortable large bed and good pillows, all help rest those aching limbs after a full day of Rome's cobbled streets. Ours was on the 6th floor, with views of the Colloseum and St Peter's in the distance - albeit a slightly cluttered view over adjacent roof tops. Still, nicer than seeing nothing of any significance.

Breakfast is a decent continental affair. Missing a little variety and the odd boiled egg, but generally it's a good start to the day. The round tables are a nice way to interact, something we Brits aren't always accustomed to but it certainly adds a little flavour to the proceedings.

We were provided with complimentary drinks to help celebrate my partner's birthday. A very nice and welcome gesture.

All in all, I would say the fantastic location, warm welcome, good rooms and relatively affordable pricing (for Rome) - make this hotel a definite shortlister. If you prefer a hotel to provide the simple things simply, and leave you to enjoy the vast array of delights that the city offers for the most part, then you would do well to find a better offer.

Excellent location for this well run, friendly hotel. We liked the large, round tables at breakfast and dinner. This meant wemet fellow travellers from around the world. Recommend unresevedly.

We stayed at this hotel because Rick Steve's had recommended it. The reception staff was nice but there is nothing exceptional about this hotel. Our room was large and clean for a Rome hotel. The breakfast was disappointing because absolutely nothing was made on the premises except for the coffee. For a hotel that offered dinner I expected for them to make the breakfast they provided. The location was convenient to the Metro and Colosseum. I guess it comes down to the price we paid did not commensurate to the hotel quality.

I stayed with my daughter for a second time in this lovely centrally located Roman hotel this week and found the staff to be very helpful and friendly, willing to help us and advise us on any queries we had. A few examples will show what I mean. We wanted extra pillows but forgot to ask for them after breakfast so asked quite late at night but within five minutes of our request, they were brought up to our room with a smile. We used the hotel's taxi service to bring us to and from the airport and found it efficient and punctual, with very pleasant drivers. We wanted to plan a trip to Ostia Antica which involved both metro and train travel and were able to do this with the help of the hotel staff who gave us valuable and practical advice and we had a fantastic trip there thanks to this advice. The hotel's location is superb, beside Rome's major ancient landmarks and close to the metro and the buses and the hotel is run with pride and pleasantness by the lovely Khan family. This is the secret of this hotel's success - it's not just an impersonal hotel, it's a family business and guests are treated very well, better than any othe hotel I have ezperienced in Italy and I have travelled extensively there, from Sicily to Venice, Milan and Florence and from Naples to Rome. It is Mrs Khan's 40th year in Rome and her experience in the hotel business shows! Long live Hotel Lancelot!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony as the hotel is in a lovely atmospheric Roman area with families walki...

We stayed at the Lancelot for two nights post cruise,I had found the hotel on trip advisor and was definitely not disappointed.

I booked the hotel via email and all correspondence was very fast and efficient I upgraded the room to one with a garden terrace and it was just so beautiful. We arrived early at the hotel around 10.30am and reception was exceptionally nice and friendly we even had breakfast (our second of the day) there was a nice continental selection of bread, cheese, smoked salmon, cereals etc which was all lovely. Our room was ready about 40mins after arriving the security man escorted us up to the room, showed us how to work the shutters and then brought our cases. Our room which was on the 1st floorwas lovely and cool and airy and quite quaint the terrace was just beautiful was a mosaic table and chairs and lots of plants and
shrubs. I was so glad I had booked it!

The terrace was great for drinking wine on and it also was good for socialising we had 2 couples on either side from New Jersey (hello if u are reading this we hope u enjoyed ur tour) and we really enjoyed chatting with them! I also went up to the terrace on the 6th floor which has stunning views and had a lovely chat with another American couple and a French lady.

The hotel is in a great location very safe and only 2 mins walk to the colosseum we walked everywhere during our stay there are also lots of nice restaurants near the hotel so an abundance of places to eat. The hotel do offer dinner which I heard was good and we would probably have booked it to try if we had stayed longer they even offer to make you something different if the set menu does not suit so very accommodating! I also loved the owners little dog that wandered in the reception it was cute and we even seen it being transported in a backpack on a scooter with the owner which was a sight to see.

You will not be disappointed if you book this hotel it's beautiful and the staff are very friendly we just wished we could have spent longer but having just came from a cruise we couldn't complain.

This was a wonderful experience for our family of 4. The front desk staff was superior, and helped us with all we needed. The check in was easy, and the rooms were very good. As usual for Europe, small, but they worked fine for us. The breakfast kept us full throuh the day, and the selection was very good.

The location was equally excellent. On a side road, we were able to walk just about everywhere. Close to the Roman Forum and Coloseum, the location was very good.

The hotel Lancelot was a wonderful oasis in bustling Rome, on a quiet street just a short stroll from the Colosseum. The family room was large and airy, with a wrap-around balcony. The hotel staff couldn't have been more helpful with tickets, restaurant recommendations, bus routes, taxis, etc. It was a great value. We would recommend it to anyone.
