Trying to get away from the tourist traps restaurants often located close to tourist sights, using Trip Advisor as a guide, we went to Il Tunnel which was close to our hotel and a bit out of the tourist route. What a pleasure! Although not a five star restaurant, the dining room was simple, clean with a pleasant atmosphere. The table was covered with a real tablecloth with napkins also made of cloth and not paper. With the two or three words of Italian we know, we relied on the waiter whose knowledge of English or French was equal to our Italian to choose from the Italian menu. Our waiter, who was charming and friendly, (see photo) guided us in our choices. Since not knowingly we over ordered, He explained, as he could, that with the amount of bruschetta we ordered would not be able to eat anything else.
In all, service was quick, the bruschetta served on large slices of warm bread were great. My prosciutto/mushroom pizza was delicious and the fresh basil and tomato pasta my wife ordered was excellent. the wine was more then acceptable and very inexpensive. The whole thing with dessert and coffee for 46 Euros is hard to beat. In all a very enjoyable lunch and experience.
