“I loved this place”
Reviewed 24 October 2013

Delightful small hotel in beautifully quiet neighborhood (away from the hustle and tourist bustle) of this incredible city. 10 minute walk from the Bologna metro station. Wonderful trattoria for take out near the metro.
Friendly, very helpful staff. Clean rooms, comfortable beds and candies in your room!
Cafe Americano anytime you ask. Wonderful breakfast: fresh fruits, meats, cheeses, breads, cereals, yogurt, sweet pastries.
Lovely veranda, great place for a pot of tea in the afternoon.
Some reviewers have minor complaints: beds too hard, showers not spacious, really? This place is the absolute best spot I have ever stayed in in Europe for the price. Every evening it felt like "coming home", I was sad to leave.
Something I found very helpful was to buy the Rome Omni Pass: gets you on the metro, city buses and the Hop On Hop Off bus. The Bus goes where the metro doesn't, between the two I got everywhere quickly and easily. When you feel like you need a rest, (and you will) hop on the Hop On bus, sit up on top and revel in the beauty of the city again and again. Also this enables you to NOT WAIT IN LINE at the Vatican, Saint Peters, The Coliseum, there is a special entrance for Omni Pass holders.
Lastly, I saw 3 couples in the 3 days I was there who'd been pick-pocketed. Be wise, use a money belt. Lock what you don't need to carry with you in your hotel safe. Don't keep your cash or cards in your pocket. Women don't carry a purse or if you do, don't put any valuables in it.

Simple yet beautiful villa. The veranda was the perfect place to sip afternoon coffee and to have breakfast in the morning which was mostly continental, consisting of cereal, cheese, bread, cakes, fruits and juices. No eggs.
We found the room quite small with not enough space to keep our luggage. The bathroom was good size. No tea/coffee making facility in the room.
There aren't many options to eat around the hotel. You'd be better off having your meals in the main city. The hotel seemed to be in a quiet residential leafy area, and we felt completely safe to return later in the night.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. They even packed us two small picnic hampers because we were going to miss the breakfast due to a very early checkout.
The Bologna metro is a good 8-10 minute walk. However, the bus stop was nearer and we could get bus # 60(frequent) or 62(very unreliable) to get to the tourist attractions (around 15 minutes). Rome Tiburtina bus station is not far from this hotel, less than 10 euro by taxi and you could get regional buses from there.
Overall, I would highly recommend the hotel to people who would like to leisurely explore Rome. Those on an express trip, should probably stay closer to the main attractions.

After a 20 days trip along Italy, we arrived to Rome for a four days stay.We were received by the excellent hospitality of Lucy, who gave us all the information required for public transportation, restaurants, airport transfer, ecc, as well as Gabrielle. We were not very successful with the rest of the staff. We spend our stay at room number 2, the room exceeded our expectations, considering the average size of hotel rooms in Italy, this room is huge, luminous, it has big windows which you could open to let the fresh air come in, and sometimes mosquitoes(not a big issue). The bathroom is very spacious also, comfortable and it has big windows too!The location was perfect for us,the hotel is close to public transportation ,the neighbourhood is safe and residential, and you can have a restful sleep.Good restaurants were mostly locals eat are at a 10/15 minutes walk.

Yes, it is a 15 minute bus ride from the center of tourist Rome,(which is not a bad thing if you want a break from the noise and crowds.) Yes, the staff speaks mostly Italian (after all you are in Italy). Yes the beds are hard (but some of us like it that way). But the staff is both friendly and helpful (such as mastering the internet to secure a last minute museum reservation, providing the extra pillows, anticipating your need in the morning for a freshly squeezed orange juice and having a coffee at the ready. and storing your luggage for a few days when you take a sidetrip to Florence.) That are some of the benefits of a quality boutique hotel that made our week's stay at the Pirandello a delight. The discounted price via an internet booking for a long term stay made the choice of the Pirandello for us even sweeter.

The good stuff. Very good and helpful staff; large room; plentiful (if not hot) breakfast; free wifi

Not so good. Awareness of bathroom visits of both neighbours; noise from room above; warm water; very hard beds; mosquitos allowed in every day as they insisted on opening windows; told there was no English speaking TV but later told on checkout that there was!

Position is a little out but we oldies walked it a couple of times from Trevi Fountain area and bus is straightforward.

Given the rave reviews on here - which is a bit of a warning I guess - we thought it very overpriced. After all, it is a posh guest house, not a hotel

Room Tip: Top floor might be quieter

The location of the hotel is pretty far from the city center, which means it is not easy to go back to your hotel during the day for a rest. It's a city bus ride to the center of Rome, Piazza Venezia...but just far enough away to not want to go back during the day to get off your feet, unfortunately. The good news is that it is in a nice neighborhood surrounded by embassies. The breakfast is okay, not fantastic. Coffee was good, but too many pastries and sweets we thought. Lucy was VERY helpful with recommendations and any requests---no complaints there! Our biggest negative with this hotel was our bathroom (room 4)! Very narrow tub and very strange shower configuration. It was almost virtually impossible to get firm footing in this tub, hold the shower handle and bathe oneself! The CF lighting was horrible and the large glass sink was awful---too big and too weird. The bedroom itself was spacious and no complaints there. The bathroom was the negative for us.

Room Tip: Not room #4
