“great location! friendly staff!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2012

We had a terrific stay at the Hotel Traiano in Rome! although the room was small, it was in an incredibly historic building and very well maintained. The staff was friendly and helpful, remembering our names every time we passed through the lobby or walked down the halls.
Breakfast was nice (but European, don't expect scrambled eggs and sausage) with a variety of cereals, cold cuts, cheeses, pastries, and hard boiled eggs. Because the location is so amazing we didn't need to pay for transortation to any of the sites. The Vatican was the furthest from the hotel at about a 30 to 45 minute walk, but you're walking through freakin Rome people! look up and enjoy it!
There were only very few negatives, 1- the shower is kind of hard to work, you have to put it on full blast hot and slowly add cold only moving the knob by millimeters, 2- we found the bed uncomfortable and had a hard time sleeping, but as long as your room is not facing the main road it was quiet and peaceful, 3- after we checked out we asked to keep the key to use the restroom one last time, and as we went back up there was an employee taking a nap on the bed! It was awkward and uncomfortable, but I don't feel that that ruined our stay, just that it was an unfortunate miscommunication between the staff and 1 lazy employee.
Tiana (I think that was her name) and Paulo were fantastic!
ps. the AC works great!!

Room Tip: ask for room on back side, not by street

We stayed at Hotel Traiano for two nights in May 2012 and were very happy with both the service and the room. Very comfortable bed and staff were terrific with luggage and directing us to a garage for our hire car. Hotel is located within an easy stroll to a large number of major tourist attractions and there are plenty of excellent restaurants lclose by. Very impressed with the value for money and comfort provided.

Room Tip: Very quiet location, internet and air conditioning.

Quite old and not updated.I could not recommend .There must be better Hotels for the money.
However most customers stay there before or after Cruise and free shuttle to Cruise Ship Terminal is provided.

We stayed at Hotel Traiano the last 4 nights of our honeymoon. We arrived around 10:30 am and were able to check in right away. The bellhop showed us to our room, opened the doors to the balcony and brought up our luggage. The room was quite spacious for a European hotel. I had requested a room with a balcony and we were given one at no extra charge. I highly suggest this request because it appeared our room was larger than most and our balcony went around the entire corner of the hotel. We had booked through another website offering a great deal (less than $500 USD for the entire stay) and while our breakfast was not included, the WiFi was. We never ate breakfast at the hotel but the breakfast room was lovely. The hotel at first glance was nice but our room was a tad bit tired. The furniture was acceptable but could use an update. Even if they put a fresh coat of paint up I think it would improve the room drastically. The bathroom seemed as if it had been updated recently. The bed was two twin beds pushed together. The pillows were huge and the bed was firm. There was plenty of space to store our belongings. The staff were able to communicate in English fairly well. We were very happy having the balcony and overall enjoyed the room. The best part of this hotel is the location. You could not have a better location in Rome. Most of the sites are under 10 minutes away. The Vatican is a 30-40 minute walk. We were quite surprised how close we were to everything. Our overall impression of this hotel was very good and we would return for another stay.

A good central location, however the nearest metro station is a 10 minute walk away.

The hotel is fairly basic in decor and amenities and is more like a standard 2 or 3 star hotel.

Our room was facing the very busy main road and even with the double glazed windows closed the noise is very loud. Also the bed was very hard so anyone who intends to stay longer than a couple of nights may find themselves sleep deprived. We stayed for three nights and although we live in a busy city centre area were unable to get any quality sleep on any of the nights despite partaking in the local wine quite generously.

Some reviews have commented on the Roma pass. We had this and to be honest this was not much value in this location. We only got into the coliseum free other attractions were only discounted by a few euros and we only needed to use the metro twice as everything else was in walking distance.

To summarise this hotel is good for location but be prepared to compromise on comfort and sleep.

The hotel is walking distance just 2mn from many of the sights you'd want to see in Rome and that is it's only defining feature. Otherwise is so-so. The rooms are clean but small and look dated. The breakfast is frugal. The wifi is expensive. The staff looks bored. No real reason to complain.
Not the best hotel ever but the location.
