I have been going to Settimio al Pellegrino for more than 20 years. The quality of food is excellent. As with typical roman trattoria, the menu changes by the day of the week, plus some specials as rigatoni and polpette are always available. Try the gnocchi on Thursday, and the polpette which are really exquisite. Also homemade fettuccine on Sunday morning are a must. The owners are always present, Teresa reigns over the kitchen and Mario is the PR guy. Very familiar ambience and atmosphere, it looks like you are eating at home with some friends.

Settimio is a small tratoria (family owned restaurant) that proposes a limited but delicious selection of traditional Roman food. Delicious « pasta e ceci » (pasta and beans soup). The door is a somewhat hidden; you have to ring the bell. You definitely should make a reservation.

Found and article about where to eat in Rome on a Sunday (google it) ,and called Settimio to make a reservation. It was the 2nd of our 3 nights in Rome. Got a little confused about when we were being told to come in , and believed it was 8:15 (asked for 8, and later read they open at 8:30). Read a little in advance, and felt slightly intimidated, but had a nice walk (guided by iPhone mapping) from our hotel near the Pantheon. The hostess was gracious, the menu had probabaly two items for each course that evening, and there was a translation of each in English. The house white we ordered a bottle of was fresh and tasty. We seemed to be seated around the corner in possibly the "non-local" section, but sightlines were good and we kind of bonded with the French couple next to us. The selections that night were simple and fantastic. Recommended this trattoria the rest of our trip- for us it was the perfect "local" Roman dining experience. Have the feeling that if you ever went there twice or more , you would be treated like regulars .

We were so excited to have a home cooked Italian meal at a local place that had descent reviews. We rang door bell and were "fortunate" enough to pass whatever criteria they have for getting in. After sitting at a table for about 30 minutes with no greeting or menus we realized we were not really wanted. We were hungry and determined to taste home cooked Italian. Long stories short, we had to basically beg for service, guess at ordering because there are no menus and grab our unfinished espresso back when tried to clear our table to kick us out. The food was good but if you don't fit in, you definitely feel like the unwanted girlfriend at your boyfriends parents house. They try act nice for the sake but you just don't fit in. The bill ended up being over 70 euro and I can think of much better places to take my time, money and empty stomach! I highly recommend going to the Trastevere neighborhood where the atmosphere is much more welcoming and the food so amazing! A true Roma experience.

We ve found this restaurant recomended by Isabella Ferrari in Louis Vuitton city guides. If you'd like to try autentic italian food and excellent wine at a very resonable price this is the place to go. Nothing fancy very basic decoration and atmosphere but very good food and the owners are always happy to help though speak little English! Highly recomended!
