We had no idea that our trip was overlapping Easter Holidays and the canonization of two popes. There were no hotels to be found and we ended up booking this through a very talented travel agent. The hotel was very comfortable, 2 blocks from the Termini, restaurants on every corner with a great staff. What more can be said?

Had a great family vacation at Metropole. The hotel is in a perfect location within walking distance of Termini station and the other attractions in Rome. The room was spacious and clean. A great variety for breakfast buffet. The only thing we missed was a free WiFi, the hotel offers just one hour per day for free.

My husband and I returned to Rome after 25 years and were delighted with our stay at the Metropole. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the champagne and flowers my husband had arranged as a surprise were lovely. Our room was on the 6th floor, at the back, and was very quiet at night. It was kept spotlessly clean and replenished daily with toiletries and towels. It was a good sized room and plenty of space for clothes and enough mirrors for women and their make-up! The only annoyance was that the heating couldn't be controlled and we had to send down for a heater as I was really cold before we went out in the evening. The breakfasts were great with plenty of choice for everyone. Fresh fruit salad, yoghurts, cereals, bread, croissants, naughty cakes! We didn't sample the hot food.
We arrived at the hotel by train from the airport which was no hassle whatsoever. It cost 14 euro's each and goes every half hour. The station is a 10 minute walk from the hotel.
We ate out at restaurant's near the hotel and the best one for us was around the corner in a round dark grey building. Doesn't sound very exciting but food good and plentiful.
We walked everywhere and managed to see loads. Get to the coliseum early because the queues are lengthy. We went to via Margutta, near the Spanish steps, which is an interesting area where artists such as Picasso used to visit.
Don't forget to try the ice-cream - out of this world!!

Room Tip: A room at the back on a high floor should be quiet

Just back from 3 night stay. Great location, close to Train & Underground. Room was very good, cleaned to a high standard by very friendly staff.

Bar area is one of nicest I have ever visited, staff were very experienced, polite and provided excellent service.

Restaurant used on two occasions for evening meals. Staff were excellent especially on second evening visit, when we dined on our wedding anniversary. Staff laid table with lovely roses etc, made evening very special.
A big thank you to restaurant managers on both nights (15th & 17th April).

Overall a very good & well run hotel.

I have stayed in numerous city hotels but this is the first I have stayed at with my family and they have been treated very well during our 5 day stay.
The hotel is situated close to the train station and also close to the Roma City bus route. The area is within walking distance of all of the attractions but is far enough away to be reasonably priced. The surrounding restaurant s are the same as you would pay for in a local town and are cheaper than a usual city meal in the uk. On average we paid £50 for a family of three, drinks, starter, main meal and afters!!!.
We stayed over the Easter weekend and the atmosphere was fantastic. I am an atheist but still got emotional during the weekend. The history and the beautiful architecture made the whole experience one never to forget. Every corner of Rome is steeped in history, yes we did the usual tourist itinerary, but there are so many basilicas not in the tourist guides.
We bought the Roma omni pass which was great and saved us a fortune in time and money. The pass allowed us to jump queues which were hours long.
A word of warning, if you book these on the internet they give you two pick up points. One however has been closed down. The one closest to St. Peter's basilica is the easiest to find. We spent over an hour looking for the one near St. John's of the lanterns basilica only to be told by a policeman it's had closed down.
Food and drinks next to all the main tourist spots were reasonable and probably cheaper than in the uk. There are lots of despar (spar) super markets about, and they are great for drinks and snacks.
This was a fantastic break and I would recommend it to anyone. My daughter is 13 and she loved the history of the city.

Tip. Don't get the shuttle from the airport, we were told it was a 75 mins journey but we were 3hrs until we got to the hotel. We booked with BA (avios points), the company running the shuttle wait until they have a full minibus full!!!!!!. For only 3 euros each we could have had a private shuttle which would have saved us hanging around the airport.

The train from the airport stops 5 minutes from the metropole and is cheaper than a shuttle or a private taxi. If you are staying in this hotel it is a better option.

In all, this was a fantastic city break and the fact it was over Easter was even more special, even for an atheist like me!!!. The art and the historical importance of the city was over whelming.

We threw coins in the Trevi fountain so no doubt we will return again!,,,

Room Tip: Buy a Rome omni card Don't use the airport shuttle it takes 3 hrs not 75 mins!!,!
