Hotel Raphael - Relais Chateaux

Excellent location for the Piazza Navona. Very clean.
Rooms extemely small. Okay for single businessman.
Bathroom the tiniest we have ever seen. No matter how you turn you bang into something. No room for arms or legs.however great showerhead.
We were robbed of our passports in the LOBBY while we were checking in. It was a Saturday, we had to report to the police immediately, where they gave us a stamped report to take to the American Embassy Monday morning. We were flying home Monday, no luck there. Had to change our arrival airport from Newardk to JFK on Tuesday, etc. THe whole fiasco cost us $1400.00 more for our vacation. Make your own judgement. Management and owner most helpful. Owner sent us appetizers and an excellent bottle of Proscecco on our last evening and expressed his regrets, however he should have given us our extra night free, since it happened in his LOBBY.We had lunch on the roof of the Raphael on that extra last day. They could at least have taken that off our bill... Gee Whiz!!!

Stayed three nights at the Raphael over New Years and had a wonderful time. Great location walking distance to everything, was lucky to get an upgrade to an executive room and staff was generally very friendly and helpful.

Skipped the expensive breakfast but found plenty of lovely cafe options in the neighborhood. Excellent New Years dinner at the Hosteria del Anima right in front of the hotel and found the most fantastic and friendly little bar 50m down the road from the hotel called Rafatia - if you stay at the Raphael, definitely worth a visit or three.

Easy to get to the hotel from the airport via the train to Termini station and then a taxi, don't waste your money on the hotel's expensive shuttle.

Overall had a great stay and would certainly recommend the Raphael!

This hotel is worth every single cent. It was divine from start to finish. The hotel is practically on Piazza Navona. It has a gorgeous ivy front. The reception area is beautiful - decorated in art works. The reception staff were helpful from the start. The suite we stayed in was also wonderful. Electronically controlled curtains, spacious area by television, double shower, Bvlgaria toiletries, crisp clean linen, nice touches like daily deserts, water, etc. The hotel food is divine. The roof top restaurant is the most romantic place at night. The limo service to the airport was also worth every penny. This hotel is walking diatance to every tourist attraction in Rome. No complaints. We have stayed in several other hotels in Rome and would ONLY return to this hotel. We will definitely be back.

This place is a small hotel covered with ivy right behind the Piazza Navonna, my favorite part of Rome. The rooms are great, particularly the suite (quiet, clean and luxurious). The roof restaurant is a nice way to start the day and you are literally a few steps from the piazza.

We thought breakfast was included in our somewhat pricey 300 euro rate (hard to imagine it wasn't!). The fact that they charged 26 euros per person for a breakfast that included neither custom omlettes or even champagne turned our positive experience into a negative one. We didn't realize the price until we were checking out (not posted anywhere -- shame on us for not asking!). Up to this realization, we had a positive experience. The hotel was in a fabulous location, our room was nicely furnished /decorated and had high quality linens. The staff was sufficiently helpful. All in all, a good (albeit expensive) place to stay. Just don't have breakfast here.

LOCATION: Excellent! There may be no better location than this hotel (and other hotels in the immediate area). Everything is within short walking distance. There are tons of restaurants and charming squares nearby for food. The hotel is on a quiet street.

BED/SHEETS/PILLOW: Bed is soft and comfortable. Unfortunately it sagged slightly to the middle. Sheets and pillows were great but I’ve seen better.

LIGHTING: Lighting was fine in both bedroom and bathroom.

BATHROOM/SHOWER: Bathroom was clean but had a badly chipped bathtub. Shower had very hot water if desired and good water pressure. Towels were excellent.

TOILETRIES: Bulgari; the kind you want to take home.

CLEANLINESS: The entire hotel and room were very clean.

A/C: In room but didn’t use.

CLOSET SPACE: We had one of the smallest (and least expensive) rooms in the hotel. Not really enough space for 2 to unpack all items.

STYLE OF ROOM: Tired. Some rooms on the hotel brochure look amazing, not ours. Although clean, it felt very old and needed updating. I am 34 and this hotel is definitely not my style and is more appropriate for those twice my age.

QUIET/LIGHT: Some noise (but not much) could be heard from outside of the room (probably very common if in a good location). The room could be made pitch black during the morning sun.

FOOD: Didn’t eat here. Chose not to spend 25 Euros per person on breakfast.

TV/INTERNET: Free wired internet in room which was fast. There are 2 computers for guests in the lobby for a charge. There is wireless in the lobby with your own computer for a charge. TV had one of the smallest channel selections we have seen in Europe but the most English stations. Much better than most other hotels with 400 stations and maybe 2 in English.

SERVICE: Staff was very pleasant but didn’t go out of their way for one denied request.

COMMON AREA: Nice, not gorgeous. Nothing that would make me want to return. Then again, it’s not the right style for those in their 30s and younger.

TIPS: There are a few rooms in the hotel that are much smaller than the others that may be had for a lower price. I believe the main value of this hotel is the location but that there are better hotels in the area to be found. I am a little surprised by all the glowing reviews at this hotel. These people must be fairly inexperienced travelers and just don't know better. If you stay here just don't expect the best and if you do stay here I suggest booking an upgraded room.
