This is a wonderful hotel. It's in a 'super' convenient location just off the Piazza Navona. The Staff is very helpful and friendly. The rooms are quiet, clean, and comfortable and having breakfast included made for an easy start every morning. We were traveling with a six year old and having the ability to stop in to the hotel for a break midday made our trip much more enjoyable. Being on the Piazza also gave us a steady source of entertainment. The neighborhood restaurants were better than we expected, given the touristy location. We were able to fine great pizzas, simply paninis and full blown three course meals all within walking distance of the hotel. The Hotel restaurant is also good, but VERY expensive. I suggest having a nightcap or desert one evening. The view is worth the price of admission. We loved Rome and will return again, hopefully to the Raphael.

We stayed at Hotel Raphael with our three year old daughter and we loved it. We stayed in a room with a small terrace, room 418, and it was glamourous and exquisite. A couple of friends joined us on the trip and their rooms were more average -- they had wished they had booked a room like ours. Definitely pay a little extra for the better room. The tile work, the linens and bedding, everything was fabulous. Our shades were electric, there was a light in the closet, we had a fresh fruit basket in our room every day. . . everything was intentional and deliberately glamorous. Even the shower had two shower heads and the stream was the strongest I think I have ever had in a shower. But it also had the personal touch. We asked for a baby cot for our daughter and the staff put in a soft Winnie the Pooh comforter and turned it down for her.

If we go back to Rome, we will stay here again. They give you a free drink coupon for the rooftop deck . . .make sure you enjoy it. We loved the view and they give you a wonderful sampling of hors d'oeuvres to go with it.

We started our recent trip in Italy with 3 nights at the Raphael. After a few days in Venice and in Florence, we moved to a private villa in Tuscany and then spent a final night at the Raphael before flying back to the states from Rome.

I used to stay in the Raphael many years ago, but in recent years had switched to the Hotel Eden for reasons I don't now recall. I won't make that error again.

There is no more perfect location in all of Rome. From the threshold of the Raphael you can practically look down a tiny alleyway to see Bernini's statues on the Piazza Navona. Though the P.N. is throned with tourists in the summer, in the Rapahel you feel as if they are miles away. The hotel is exquisitely private and quiet. It's covered over with green vines so it seems to magically disappear into the walls of the church behind it. Rooms are lovely, beds are perfection. Bulgari toiletries in all the baths and lovely soft robes and slippers. Stunning breakfast every morning, great fitness room for a workout. If you don't have a drink at dusk on the rooftop terrace, you'll miss one of the great views of Rome.

When we arrived in Rome, the hotel upgraded one of our rooms to a large suite. The staff here is impeccable. They booked museum tours, suggested fabulous restaurants and did a multitude of things to make our stay pleasant. When we returned for our final night in Rome, they greeted us like long lost family, again upgraded us to a suite and organized everything impeccably for our early morning departure to Fuimicino.

We were travelling with a 10, 14 and 18 year old, though in the past we had stayed at the Raphael singly or as a couple. The hotel is lovely for honeymooners, but it also works brilliantly for families. Because the Piazza Navona is right out the front door, we let the kids come and go on their own, even at night since they were only a few steps from home. From the Raphael you can walk easily to all the places worth seeing in Rome, and when you return, you are in the lap of luxury. It's not easy to become a Chateau &Relais Hotel because the standards are very high, but the Raphael meets them easily.

Kudos in particular to its fine staff, and I'm still dreaming of the lovely matresses and luxurious bathrooms.

We stayed at the Raphael for 3 nights and we had an enjoyable stay there. Upon arrival we were upgraded to one of the newly renovated Richard Meier rooms, which was very nice, with a spacious bathroom and clever use of the available space. The hotel corridors could benefit from a decoration as they were a bit plain, and the elevator needs a small facelift, but nonetheless it was fuctional and the guest doesn't spend any time there. Breakfast was quite good, especially for Italy, and the location just off piazza Navona, ideal. The only downside is the staff, which while friendly and kind, didn't go beyond their duties for advice etc.

We saw the hotel last time we were in Rome and decided that, if we were to return, we would stay at the Rapheal based on its location and beautiful, ivy-clad appearance. So, for our wedding anniversary, we booked a three night stay and I am so glad that we did.

On arrival, we were shown to our room which had been upgraded due to it being a special occasion. The room was fantastic; it was well furnished and modern and it had it's own terrace overlooking a church - we were delighted. The manager had left us a note welcoming us and there was a bottle of chilled prosecco, canapes and a red rose waiting for us. It was such a lovely welcome.

During our stay, we had breakfast in our room which was set up for us on our terrace - the food and service were faultless. We also had cocktails on the roof terrace which is a gorgeous location; the drinks were quite pricey but came with snacks. The service on the roof terrace was a little slow although it gave us chance to admire the view and relax.

I feel that I need to defend this hotel, to some extent, due to the previous reviews although it should not need any defence as it is excellent. The hotel's central location is ideal for sightseeing or just soaking up the atmosphere of the Piazza Navona, which was buzzing at all times, and yet it is quiet and peaceful inside the hotel. The staff we met were helpful and polite at all times and tried to make our stay memorable for all the right reasons.

We had a fabulous break in Rome and the Raphael played a major part in this.

My husband and I learned of this hotel in a search of Relaix & Chateaux properties, a method that has not let us down in the past. Until now. The hotel has its upsides, including location, lovely roof deck and solitude -- you get a great night's sleep there -- but the service is indifferent at best, and don't bother with the overpriced food (too many other truly great places nearby). Our room was a nice size but felt in need of refurbishing (worn leather couches in the suite, moldy shower). To boot, we feel sure we left an article of clothing in the room but no one ever responded to our email requests to check ... once we checked out, we were non-entities. And we entrusted our postcards to the front desk, giving the clerk money for postage, but the postcards were never mailed. This happened to at least one other reviewer, and I never would have believed it if it hadn't happened to us. Disappointing, to say the least. We loved the location but will stay elsewhere next time.
