“Clean.... but bring earplugs.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 April 2014

We had a short 3 night stay in this hotel and it is a charming building - very tastefully decorated and meticulously clean. The staff are all friendly and service is very quick.

However the corridors transmit all noise - doors shutting, foot steps and people chatting. Earplugs are a must if you want to get a good night's sleep. Our bed also bowed meaning there was roll-together. Breakfast was very disappointing - the hot food is not hot.

Location is convenient: the metro is just around the corner and Barberini Square is 10-15 minutes walk away.

For us the cons outweighed the pros. A shame - it could be a charming hotel but overall the stay was disappointing.

We stayed in Rome for five days and I chose this hotel due to its proximity to the Roma Termini as it was an easy gateway to all the "Hot Spots" that Rome has to offer.

Check in was a breeze, the staff all spoke english quite well and were very polite to us. One particular gentleman who assisted us with our luggage as we had our two children with us, could not be more welcoming. His name was Massimo and he was so lovely and friendly and we cannot thank him enough for his beautiful nature and friendliness toward us which made us feel so welcome.

The beds were very comfortable, the room was very clean. The buffet breakfast was also very nice and catered for different tastes and likes.

So if you go please ask if Massimo is there to say Hi to as he is a true gentleman.

Check-in: was extremely quick and pleasant. We arrived way ahead of the check-in time and our room was not ready yet. However, we were given another room instead which had been prepared and it was absolutely brilliant to be able to go to our room before the actual check-in time. Hence, we could refresh before going out to re-discover Rome.

Breakfast: was absolutely gorgeous. It catered for all sorts of palates and eating requirements, including low-carb and gluten free.

Location: excellently situated just a stone's throw away from Castro Pretorio metro stop and about 5 minutes away on foot from Termini. Furthermore, if you have friends living in Rome and they offer to pick you up at your hotel, they will have no problems to park or find a stop to leave their vehicle. The zone is not a ZTL (limited-traffic zone) and hence it does not constitute a problem for guests arriving by car. I do not know about actual parking of guests' vehicles though. If I can say something about the actual location, it is not right in the "thick of things", as it were. It is about 30 minutes on foot away from Piazza Colonna so if travellers want to just pop in and out of the hotel, that might prove to be a tad complicated. However, if you want to see Rome in all its glory, the walk from the Hotel to Piazza Venezia and so on is a very pleasant one and it takes you through some of Rome's most beautiful streets. No complaints there.

The room: was perfectly appointed with a beautiful four-poster bed and frescoes on the roof. I mean, really, how many hotels have frescoes on the roof? Towelling, bedding, wardrobe and closet space, quality of toiletries and so on were top notch. I have to say, though, that the pillows were rather too low for my liking, but, then again, I could have asked for a second one and I didn't, so it was my fault. I solved the issue by folding my own pillow in half.
The bathroom was also very nicely appointed and very spacious. The water was divinely hot and water pressure was excellent (unlike many hotels where water simply trickles).

Check-out: Again, was a breeze. No problems whatsoever. The Hotel accepts major credit cards and the staff speak perfect English (even though most were Italian - but of course, one can also use Italian and/or other languages).

Conclusion: I will definitely choose this hotel again whether for business or pleasure. It definitely deserves to be on the Rome hotel radar. Well done to all the staff.

Room Tip: Our room had excellent soundproofing and could hear nothing of the traffic outside.

No real complaints, the hotel décor is of a very high standard. Richard the barman is first class. There are some nice restaurants nearby as well. We got a taxi to the Vatican for 15 euros saving the hassle of the Metro. Could have done with a printer being lined up to PC in the foyeur but that's all really. Would recommend this hotel.

We recently spent 7 nights in this centrally located hotel. Our room was beautifully furnished with comfortable beds and bedding. We appreciated just how clean everything was. The first stay there was very quiet. However when we returned for our second stay our room was near the elevator .We found it quite disturbing at times when late night arrivals or early morning departing people talked loudly as they pulled their luggage along the tiled hallways.. The bar and breakfast room staff were particularly attentive and friendly. We felt like "one of the family" by the time our stay there was over. The front desk staff seemed a bit disorganized at times, but all in all we'd return to stay in this hotel again the next time we're in Rome.

Room Tip: choose a room away from the elevator

We stayed 6 nights while in Rome at the BW Canada. Superb service from front desk, bar (Richard was excellent!), housekeeping, and dining staff. Everything was clean. The windows had triple layers, so so very quiet at night.
My only caveat is location. As the metro does not run to many of the visited areas in central Rome (unlike London or Paris, I mean), it means a long walk most days. It is easy to catch the b line and change at Termini (or just walk to termini) to go to the Vatican, but for all else you will have to hoof it or take a cab. We still think it was worth it b/c we don't mind the walks and it is truly a great hotel, especially considering the cost of it compared to other locations. Had we discovered the area N of the Pz d'Republica earlier, we would have explored it more for eating establishments (nicer part of town there, higher end, cleaner, quieter, 15 min walk from hotel).

As others have said, Hotel Canada is a fine hotel. It is tastefully furnished in traditional Roman style and serves an excellent breakfast in a beautiful dining room. Our room, number 222, was spacious and spotlessly clean, however one of our twin beds had an uncomfortable hollow in the mattress.

There is double glazing on all windows. On two previous visits to Hotel Canada traffic noise was not an issue, however this visit, during a warmer than average early April without air conditioning, we were aware of excessive traffic noise from a four-lane road close to the hotel, even with the windows tightly closed. This was continual all night but particularly noticeable in the early morning, during the day and even worse at night at the weekend.

While this is a good hotel make sure you get one of their quiet rooms.

Room Tip: Ask for a quieter room.
