“Overpriced and failing on the basics”
Reviewed 5 February 2013

I did not use the spa or other leisure facilities, which probably means this hotel was the wrong choice for me.

But they failed to get the basics right. They had overbooked and had to transfer me to a different hotel for the first night. The practicalities around this were not very smooth. The air-conditioning controls in my room were out of order, and it had to be remotely set from the reception. Most available power outlets in my room were dead. But worst, practically nothing was included in the room fee, and all extras were hideously overpriced - Wi-Fi, breakfast, drinks in the bar.

The location is a bit far away from everything, including a good selection of restaurants.

It was clear to see the cause of those high prices. Lavish decorations were everywhere, and there was always staff on hand, wearing fancy uniforms and addressing you politely. If this is your thing, then this hotel might be right for you. The room was quiet and clean.

We recently got back from Rome having stayed at this hotel for 7 nights. Yes, the spa is great. We enjoyed it very much (making 5 visits during our 7-night stay). But, in every other sense of the word, the hotel is substandard.

The bed was terrible: the king bed was in fact two adjoining twin mattresses making it very awkward in the middle, and the mattress was uncomfortably hard (and I like firm mattresses!).

The shower was dysfunctional.

The supposed shuttle to "via veneto" was actually available to use only once out of the 5 times that we asked for it (within the working hours). Every other time we got a lame excuse that one of the two shuttles is out of order, and the other driver is away.

The price of anything that you wanted to eat at the hotel was ridiculous, and not even for a good quality. Breakfast was 23 euros per head! I paid 12 euros at the bar for a terrible tiramisu and a cup of tea. If I pay about 9 euros for a piece of cake, It should be amazing.

In short, as much as I enjoyed the spa, I will never go back to this hotel again.

I just adored this hotel. It is magnificent, pure luxe in the roman style. Lots of fabrics, prints, color everywhere. Service was very good and the buffet is amazing. It is a little away from the tourist attractions but very room has a nice view, its own balcony and the hotel has an amazing pool and a wonderful spa.

PROS: Swimming pool, live piano, garden (not all of the hotels in Rome have gardens), balcony, prestige decor, calm location right across from Villa Borghese, perfect food, beds are excellent, you really get a great sleep.
CONS: Very expensive, deserts are awful, a bit far from all the sites so will need a taxi to go to the city centre - expect to spend 10 euros one way, swimming pool is not open until very late
It really is a gorgeous hotel and I think that its advantages are more important than the disadvantages and it is totally worth it. that is why i keep going back there because of all the times i' have visited Rome, this hotel is the only one that makes me feel the vibe of Rome.
Extra Bonus: They gave me a double room even though i had paid for a single one, which i really appreciated.

This is a fabulous hotel and the spa, pool and gym are amazing.
All the staff extremely polite and helpful.
Get a room overlooking the park. It’s quiet and there is a fantastic view.
Was a little concerned that it would be too far away but everything worked out fine . Forget the shuttle bus, it doesn’t take you that far. Much better to use the buses and trams which are cheap and easy. They stop just by the hotel and there are lines directly into town, directly to the Vatican and directly to the Colosseum. No problem at all. The hotel could be better at advertising this. There are also good restaurants in the area if you don’t want to go into town again on the evening.
Fantastic hotel will definitely go back.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the park. It’s quiet and there is a fantastic view.

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon. The spa is amazing, one of nicest I have ever been to. The grounds and pool area are fab and there is a lovely park across the road. We didn't eat in the hotel as we met friends for our meals in the city. Our stay was expensive but it is worth the money if you want to relax by the pool during your city break and enjoy an amazing spa. One complaint - the room was very small but its Rome so who wants to be in the room :)

Stayed for 1 night of our visit to Rome and after the initial WOW factor on arrival at appearances I was actually a little disappointed with my stay here. The concierge and reception staff were very efficient on arrival and the room was lovely. Very comfortable and very clean and absolutely beautiful as was the entire hotel. The bar staff here were lovely, very friendly and attentive and made an amazing G&T!
We visited the SPA attached which in itself was fabulous, had every facility you could think of and in a very relaxing environment. We did not book the Spa with the room as we did not know if we'd use it. Online it was advertised at 12euro per person for the stay, on the day it cost us 35euro per person per visit and then a mandatory 5euro each for a little swimming hat. We felt a bit ripped off at this point considering we were staying at the hotel and knew what the actual resident offer was. The staff were a little frosty as well.
We were expecting great things at breakfast however the hot choice was in fact cold, the pastries ran out and the service was slow.
My overall thought was that we paid for the setting as opposed to the service. I cant say I'd visit again.

Room Tip: Book the Spa in advance if you think you may use it!
