This review is long overdue. My husband and I took our honeymoon a year and a half after getting married. Rome was our final stop in Italy and we absolutely cannot say enough about this hotel. We were there in November 2011. The decor is grand, beautiful deco-chic in the lobby, bar and little library. Then the rooms are kind of elegant 60s and 70s. Think Jacqui O. An odd mixture but it works. It is situated a little distance from Rome's main hustle-bustle, but the central attractions are easily accessible via walking or a cab (the Lord Byron will get you a taxi in 10 seconds). We usually walked to and from our excursions to work off the sublime food we were eating. It is a few miles to Roma central. The way into Rome is downhill, the way back is uphill so wear comfortable (but fashionable-you are in Rome!) shoes and get your cardio on. The Lord Byron is right near the Villa Borghese which is a must-see. The villa is a fabulous museum and then stroll through the gardens down into the wonderful chaos of the Spanish steps, Via Veneto, Trevi, all of it. The staff at the Lord Byron are absolutely incredible. They make this place magical and special. Every single person was so lovely, so helpful, so warm, so friendly. We cannot rave enough about the service. We found staying here an incredibly good value, they even upgraded our room. Breakfast was included in our price. The coffee was good, the fruit fresh. We kept breakfast light so we could indulge later in the day in Rome's out of control delicious food. Choose the Lord Byron, they will not disappoint.

Planning our first trip to Rome, we were looking for "US-style" five-star comfort (plush King bed, large room with air conditioning, large marble bath, flat-panel TV, excellent service, etc.) at a reasonable price...a seemingly impossible feat perusing the top hotels close to the famous sights in old Rome. A common theme seemed to be a trade-off of price for proximity: small rooms / mediocre service at a big price, but located next door to the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, and so on. Our travel agent suggested the Hotel Byron based on our preferences and budget, but noted it was not in the central area, but north of the Villa Borghese (a very large park) outside the Servian Wall. The hotel is in the upscale Parioli neighborhood, scenic, quiet, safe, and picturesque, but a distance from the main sightseeing,

This created a planning dilemma for us first-timers, desiring both affordable comfort and proximity to the sights we wished to see. Looking on a map, it seemed to be only 3/4 to 1 mile to the Spanish Steps, the first well-known attraction beyond the Borghese Gallery, which we took as a good sign. Next we looked at tripadvisor reviews, and found a mixed bag: some past guests stated it was too far to walk to Rome's attractions, other said the walk was reasonable. Since I am in my 50's, this was an important point. Based on many recommendations, plus pictures of the hotel, we decided to stay our full week at the Lord Byron. We chose wisely!

LOCATION: Here is our take on the location - yes, it is close to many sights, but what you cannot see on the maps is the hill the Lord Byron is perched on, nor the hills in the area between you and the main area of Rome. This may not be daunting to some, but to us somewhat-older folks, the prospect of a long, hilly walk to get to the areas where we planned to walk for miles sightseeing was not in the cards. The good news is: we never paid more than nine Euro for a cab ride to any sight in Rome, including the most-distant sight we visited, the Colosseum. The best news is: we found the hotel location to be perfect for us...beautiful surroundings on a forested hill packed with old Tuscan-style residences, quiet evenings, and a wonderful breeze gracing our balcony while hawks glided overhead.

THE GOOD: While not an inexpensive hotel, we felt the hotel was a bargain for the price paid, particularly compared to other hotels in the same category. The service was excellent, from the Bell Staff to the Waiters; everyone spoke barely-accented English, making our stay easier; the hotel was beautifully designed and decorated, both the public spaces and our room; our room included a massive bath, large walk-in closet with automatic lighting, and a very large, very comfortable King bed; our mini-fridge was stocked with complementary water and soda; both the restaurant and breakfast room (our breakfast was included) served cutting-edge Roman food (well, cutting-edge to us); and finally, we were made to feel at home during our seven-day stay...so much so that on a day one of us were "under the weather," the chef heard and cooked up a batch of "healing soup" from a family recipe. We really enjoyed this hotel.

THE BAD: As mentioned above, the hotel is a distance from the main tourist haunts. While the separation and evening quiet was a boon for us, folks craving to be in the center of the action may not appreciate the location. One other petty gripe: while the restaurant served magnificent food, the selection was sparse, just four or five items per category (appetizer, Secondi, etc.). On a seven day stay, more selection would have been pleasing.

OVERALL: We were exceptionally pleased with the Lord Byron, and plan to stay here on our next trip to Rome.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 404, which had a balcony overlooking a section of the Villa Borghese, Rome's...

Very enjoyable stay. Although the Hotel is situated a little distance from Rome's main attractions the Lord Byron offers very good value for money and a very high class of service. The staff are more than happy to accommodate your needs and a friendly smile goes a long way when your away from home. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the Restaurant and Bar offer a good choice if your not in the mood to venture out. Overall a truly first class choice when choosing your Hotel in Rome.

Returning to Rome after 10 yrs I knew I didn't want to stay on Via Venuto as I had before, so I chose the Lord Bryon, and it was the right choice. After walking and touring the city and surrounding areas each day, returning to the LBH each evening was the perfect way to end each perfect day. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating and welcoming. Special thanks to Luca who drove us around and to Nicola who made sure our nightcap was awaiting our return.

Good value for a high end retreat a bit removed from the hustle and bustle of Rome but still easily accessible. This is an especially good base for visiting the Borghese Gallery and gardens and the zoo. There is a tram stop just down the street but we walked everywhere without a problem. The best breakfast in Rome, which was included in our rate, is served in the most gorgeous room with beautiful artwork and lovely fresh flowers. I didn't want to leave! Our room was unexpectedly quite large, a real luxury in Rome. We even had a patio with orange trees.

This was absolutely the best hotel. Everyone there was so nice and helpful. The room was gorgeous, spotless and large, as was the bathroom. The amenities were really nice. The breakfast buffet was a delicious variety of pastries, cereal, eggs, smoked fish, cheeses a variety of juices, coffee and teas. The hotel was right at The Borghese Park which is also something spectacular. It was close enough to all the great tourist attractions by cab or walk through the park but also in a very beautiful part of the city. I can't recommend this place enough and will definitely stay here again whenever in Rome.
