It is all about location, location, location. This hotel is perfectly situated to enjoy the major sites of Rome. Two blocks from Spanish Steps and three blocks from the Trevi Fountain. The staff is extremely helpful and took care of our every need. Even made arrangements for us to ship our extra stuff through a Mail Boxes Etc. We were a family of 12 and were very pleased with every aspect of this hotel. Very very clean and quiet. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choices.

This hotel was part of a package on a three leg trip. I will agree the location is very good, on a tiny little street which was easily accessible. We walked to spanish steps, the ruins and the colosseum all very easily. Overall I would compare it to a Holiday Inn or Marriott type hotel in the states. We booked three months in advance with a request of three people per room. We were not told the room sizes, by the time they added the 3rd roll a way bed there was no walking space in the rooms. We asked for a larger room and were told they were booked. The bathrooms were of typical european small size. Overall, it was quite clean. It was very economically decorated. The carpet in the bedrooms for instance had no padding under it. My last disappointment was the check in desk, I felt the attitude was not warm and welcoming as I believe it should be for guests.

We stayed here because of a friend's recommendation. We found the initial and continuing welcome and service to be professional, polite and impeccable, with no language issues. The lobby has a fine finish. Our room was sufficiently spacious, well appointed and had a wonderful garden view. Included breakfast was abundant and served graciously. The location, near the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain, with easy walking distance to Piazza Navona could not be better. With all of this, the abundance of nearby first class restaurants and quallity shopping were simply added treats. This is one fine accommodation.

Room Tip: We were advised by said recommending friend to request a non-street-front room. That request was ac...

Really hard to beat this location. Small street that is adjacent to a grocery store in case you need to stock up. We were able to walk almost everywhere and anywhere we needed to cab to was a reasonable fare. The rooms are efficient and nothing to write home about - but if you're in Rome to spend time in your room then you are missing out. Great restaurants out the door heading either direction.

Staff was very helpful in arranging reservations, cabs, etc.

We just returned from staying 4 nights at the Hotel dei Borgognoni. We had a wonderful time. The hotel was beautiful, our room was perfect, the staff was very helpful and the breakfast was great. I am very particular about hotels and rooms. It took me a month of research to find the Borgogononi hotel and I am glad that I did

Hotel Borgognoni was recommended by our travel agent and actually looked decent on Trip Advisor. The location is blocks from the Trevi fountain and Spanish steps so if you want a central location this place may work. Here were my issues:
1) No A/C - apparently the hotel doesn't turn on A/C until late May/early June. We were on a higher floor of the hotel and it was very warm in the room. We opened the window so that we could get a breeze and it seemed everyone in Rome had a loud conversation outside our window between 2AM-5AM in the morning. I don't believe I slept more than 1-2 hours. Unacceptable for a 4 star hotel. If I had A/C this might be a 3-3.5 star rating.
2) Assistance with restaurant reservations - There are two La Tavernetta's in Rome. One is apparently a complete dump that is one of the lowest rated restaurants on Trip Advisor. The other is one of the highest rated and the difference is the 48 at the end of the name. While friendly upon check in, the front desk clerk booked us and the wrong one and 48 wasn't even open on Sunday night. At 7:30 PM at night we were scrambling for dinner reservations and luckily the woman on staff helped find a decent spot
3) Breakfast is awful - perhaps some people like runny eggs and disgusting fatty breakfast meats. I stayed in 4 different locations during my trip to Tuscany and the breakfast at Hotel Bogognoni was by far the worst.
If you aren't picky and stay when it's cold or there is A/C you might have a better experience but I won't be back.

Room Tip: Don't stay here in April/May or Oct where it is warm outside but the hotel shuts off the A/C for...

Borgognoni, Responsabile reception at Hotel Dei Borgognoni, responded to this reviewResponded 1 May 2013

We carefully read your comment and hopefully you will change your opinion..….after reading our explanation. Three days before your arrival, the temperature in Rome was around 8 Celsius (°C) 46 Fahrenheit (°F), the Hotel had the central heating on . Two days before your arrival the weather change and suddenly was hot almost as in Summer. The Hotel if fully airconditinated since 18 of April. Regarding the misunderstanding of the Restaurant, La Tavernetta, when you asked the Concierge to book it, we found out after your review that on Google are 3 La Tavernetta Restaurant's, one in via degli Spagnoli, one in via Sistina and one in via Giulio Cesare, unfortunately was our mistake not to double check with you the correct address, so has been booked la Tavernetta in via Sistina. Hope, after this few words you will change you opinion.

We spent ages looking for a decent hotel to spend our 3-night city break in Rome and eventually decided to go based on reviews rather than star-rating, and I think this is the best way to get a value for money. The hotel itself was in a great location for touristy spots being right near the Spanish steps, the Trevi Fountain and short walks away from Piazza Navona and the river. We walked all the way to the Basilica which took a little while but showed us some really lovely side streets away from the hustle and bustle. Its two stops on the metro from Termini.

The room itself was pleasant, clean (although they could do with new carpets) and well equipped, although I'm not a fan of having to pay to watch TV or have internet. Breakfast was fine, and the staff were generally friendly, although the head guy at the front desk was a bit grumpy! Overall a reasonable hotel for a short break but I'm sure you pay most of your fee for the location, which is definitely valuable. Next time, however, we will be looking for a self-catering place so we can sample more of the delicious market produce rather than paying through the nose for meals out all day.

Room Tip: Courtyard facing rooms are nice and quiet.
