“Boutique Hideway at Piazza Barbareni”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2011

The location down a small alley like street off the busy piazza didn't look good, but once you get your barings you realize you are in a gret location steps away from key sites, but not mobbed with tourists. We took the rooftop junior suite with it's own deck and outside tub. For the same price as an average room at a luxury hotel you can pretend you have an apartment and terrace in Rome. The staff is great, the breakfast yummy, wifi excellent, beds comfy and the hotel was recently renovated and is spotless.

We stayed at Hotel Barocco for three nights whilst looking around Rome. The position was close to perfect, easy walking distance to Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain plus not too far from the Colosseum. Rooms were modern(renovated) whilst the hotel still retained a bit of 'old Rome'. Bed was also really good! Service was ok, nothing spectacular but nothing disappointing either, which was our feeling with the hotel in general. Breakfast was also quite good as well. Only thing I would say is it cost more than I felt it was worth, room was VERY small but it was a great position which is a large part of what you pay for.

Room Tip: Top floor was very quiet. Ask for a room facing the fountain.

We stayed here in June and really enjoyed it. Reception was always helpful and provided bookings for taxis and restaurants and sights. The room was well appointed and clean, and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom was quite luxuriously done in marble. However the height of the bathtub made it a little hard to get into the tub/shower for a less mobile person. Bathrobes and slippers and hairdryer were provided. The breakfast spread was delicious, and in addition to the buffet you can order eggs your style. The service at breakfast was very professional and the eating area really lovely, including newspapers. There is a small elevator that works well. Location of this hotel is excellent as it is within walking distance to many things, yet not too close to the crowds. Overall we loved our stay here and would book here again for any future trips to Roma!

I stayed here during a recent vacation in Rome. It was my first time in the city so this was a great location. Walking distance to Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona and the Spanish Steps. Staff was friendly - this is old-school hotel - no card keys - an actual key that you drop at the desk when you leave. The elevator was slow and tiny, but working. The room was small by US standards, but typical for Eurpope. The rug could have used a good cleaning, but other than that the room was clean and well appointed. While I enjoyed the hotel, it was a bit pricey (like everything in Rome).

Dear Guest,
Thank you for what I believe in general to be a positive review. I would just like to make a point about your final comment where you state that the hotel and everything in Rome is pricey. It is true that for many years the American market enjoyed a very favourable exchange rate against the now bygone “Italian Lira”. In the last few years, due to worldwide economic uncertainty the American dollar no longer enjoys the same exchange against the Euro. This makes everything in Europe essentially seem more expensive, but you need to consider that what you buy in the United States with a dollar is what you buy in Europe with a Euro. What you encountered in Rome is therefore not a problem in price but a problem in the exchange rate which unfortunately is out of our control. Our rates are very competitive by Rome standards and are considered by most guests to be good value for money. I am therefore sorry that you did not have this same perception.

Fantastic location, frienldy staff, clean and modern rooms, the hotel is a great place to stay if you are planning to go to Rome. Very central, with walking distance from the main turistic places. The breakfast buffet is not big, but delicious. The only negative point is the internet connection in the hotel that does not always work and when it works, looks like if I was back to the dial up era... Just be carefull with the taxi drivers in the airport and in the Termini Station, they create rates and do not use the taximetro as they should.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your comments regarding your stay. We were very pleased to hear them.

I would like to respond to the point you raised regarding the internet connection. Given the significant investment we have made in order to offer this complimentary service, we take great care to ensure the service functions correctly.

It is important for all Trip Advisor community members to be advised that internet connections in Italy are among the slowest in the Western countries, and that fibre optic lines are present only in limited areas of the city. I often read comments from guests who have stayed in other hotels and have had a frustrating experience for the same reason.

The lack of investment in broadband in Italy means that the service the hotel offers may seem slow; this however, depends not on us, but on the quality of the connection in general. For those wishing to explore the issue further, a number of websites provide information on internet line speeds in various parts of the world, which will confirm my comments.

As I write, there are technicians in the hotel carrying out checks to ensure the connection works in all the rooms. Should this prove not to be the case, we will attend to the matter immediately.

Thank you for helping us to ensure our service always lives up to the expectations of our valued guests.

We loved hotel Barocco, because we flew in and out of Rome, we stayed there both times on this trip. We loved the hotel, they were very welcoming, the rooms were great, terrific bathrooms, fantastic breakfast, in addition to the buffet they will make you eggs. The location is the best!
