You will be paying a higher price but you will be satisfied with your clean, orderly room with private bath. The location at Barberini Plaza places you walking distance to most attractions in Rome: the forum & Colisseum, Borghese Museum, and Vatican City. There are plenty of excellent, but expensive, restaurants within a couple of blocks or literally, just up one street or two. The bus station and metro are within a couple of minutes out the front entrance of the hotel.
The other "pros": great breakfast spread each morning with friendly, English speaking hotel personnel who will even cook your custom egg orders! At night, the bartender, although a bit cynical at times, was completely at our service and had signature cocktails for us to try along with his humorous stories. Overall, this is a great place to stay in Rome for few nights!

Room Tip: We stayed on the third floor which was nice and the front desk helped with our baggage. Really no criticisms about room location. I would imagine the floor or second floor may be a bit noisier only because of the proximity to the street.

I recently stayed at the Hotel Barocco in May12 for a personal holiday with my better half, and I have to say I thought it was a fantastic all-round hotel option for all manners of tourist and business professional.

Working in the travel industry myself I have frequented a lot of hotels - as well as having stayed in Rome before - and my expectations were certainly exceeded on this occasion.

The location (key to a short stay in Rome) is brilliant, in a very good juncture on the Piazza Barberini that positions you 5 minutes away from key sights like the Trevi Fountains and Spanish Steps. Other areas that I personally enjoy visiting like the Piazza Navona and Colleseum were only 20 minutes on foot further southward so easy to get around on foot to anywhere really, even the Vatican on the opposite side of the Tiber was only about half an hour on foot.

The SERVICE at the hotel was pretty much FAULTLESS during our own stay. The main reception staff were brilliant when it came to recommending places to eat, and directing us around the city (with complimentary maps they keep at reception for guests). The staff were always delighted to assist with extras such as reconfirming our inbound flight home, and generally helped make the overall stay extremely comfortable and stress-free.

The hotel itself I would say is a solid 4* with a modern feel to it following a refurbishment I believe they made some time ago. The rooms are spacious, though I would definitely suggest upgrading to the Deluxe category (over Superior) as it allows for a walk in rain shower and seperate bath with a bit more space and well worth the extra. The rooms all had SKY TV (so I didnt miss Man United losing the Premier League title) and some nice gestures from the hotel like "thank you for staying card", complimentary fruit basket on arrival, made it very personable.

Like most hotels in Rome there aren't lots of facilities (at the end of the day you will be out and about anyway) but the breakfast restaurant is very nice with several difference seating areas, and offering cold meats, pastries, cakes, as well as a neat a-la-carte menu as well. From my experience of previous Rome hotels (more 3*) its often just continental breakfast with a scant choice, but the Hotel Barocco was spot on for the most important meal of the day.

Happy Guest/ Paul

ps - Obviously not the cheapest option, but overally I would said very good value relative to similar standard hotels.

Room Tip: Upgrade to Superior for independent Rain Shower/Bath

A truely fabulous April week in a wonderful hotel, with a beautiful room & terrace (overlooking the Barberini piazza) which was kept spotless throughout our stay. The bed was especially amazing - soooo comfortable. The hotel staff where extremely helpful & attentive at all times. The breakfasts were gorgeous & pre dinner cocktails made to perfection by very knowledgable barmen. An excellent location to visit all the sights by foot & using the open top bus was also great. All in all was one of our very best holidays & we will definately stay there again.

The friendliness and dedication to service of the staff was a highlight. Can't remember better. The only shortcoming was lack of a restaurant, but with so many available within a block or so, this is a minor issue. The location was ideal for access to the metro and buses going to the things we wanted to see. We stayed at the hotel for 12 nights and were genuinely sorry to leave.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel overlooking the Fontana del Tritone give not only a spectacular view of the the Piazza Barberini but Bernini's beautiful fountain. Great spot for people watching.

Highly recommended- Friendly and helpful staff, very clean room and superb location.

Bathroom was clean and though we stayed on a higher level (5th floor) the water pressure at night and in the day time for the shower was fine!

Breakfast- good selection of bread/ cereal/ ham/ cheese/ sweets and eggs.

Location-within walking distance to the Spanish Steps and Trevi fountain. There are plenty of restaurants nearby so we always had plenty to choose from when it comes to lunch/dinner.

Room Tip: choose rooms in the main hotel building where the concierge is located.
