Via Nazionale is well situated for most of Rome's must see sights. My wife and I were able to walk to almost every thing that we wanted to see (The Vatican City is a little too far to walk though!). There are some really fine restaurants just a couple of hundred yards from the hotel and Termini Station is a short walk also.

The Hotel is clean and the staff are genuinely friendly. Breakfast was Ok and set us up for the day but it would have been nice to make a cup of coffee or tea in our room but sadly no such facilities in the room. The TV was also a little old and small. Apart from the BBC World Service I don't recall any other English language channels. Having said that we weren't in Rome for the television. Our room was at the back of the hotel away from Via Nazionale and was very quiet.

Overall I do recommend this hotel but those who difficulty with stairs might want to reconsider as the hotel reception is on the first floor (second if you are from North America). There is a lift but it is very small.

There are three reasons to recommend the Hotel Giolli:-
i) the location on the Via Nazionale puts many tourist sites within walking distance
ii) the room, whist small, was clean, well looked after and adequate for our needs
iii) staff were friendly, helpful and efficient.
If someone is looking for a midlevel hotel in central Rome, this fits the bill.
We had a room which overlooks the interior of the building: this has the advantage of quietness, away from the traffic on the street.

Our room was VERY LARGE and very comfortable. The staff was helpful and the free breakfast was nice.

This hotel is walking distance to everything. The hotel is on a couple floors of a building with a few other hotels in it. The elevator is really small (and old) in the building but it served the purpose. We stayed at three hotels on Via Nazionale on our trip and this was our second favorite. If you can get a good rate, I'd recommend International Palace over this place but AVOID Hotel Esposzione at all costs!

The hotel was in a perfect location. Right center of the city and a 5 minute walk to the Metro. I was there for 8 nights and in the area of the hotel at many excellent restaurants and stores. The staff was amazing and was able to give me recommendations and directions very easily. very quiet and very clean! I was very comfortable and intend to return to this hotel in the future. I could not be happier!

Room Tip: if you are on your own and don't intend to spend much time in the room go with the single.

We visited Rome with our kids (5 & 6 years old) during Christmas time. We had a spacious quadruple given with a large bathroom with bathtub. Everything was neat and clean. We received a large plate of fresh fruits as a welcome present which we thought was very kind and surprised us pleasantly since you don't find such treatment not even in a 4-star- hotel most of the times. The room had a view of via Nazionale and the wonderful building of Galleria dell'Arte and although it was a busy street the double-glazed windows had excellent sound proof which was very important for us as we are not used to sleeping with noise. The hotel staff was very friendly and always willing to help us always with a smile. We enjoyed the breakfast as it had fresh Italian pastries, cappuccino (we kindly asked for it) but had also all other typical breakfast food like yogurt, cheese, ham, jams, etc). The location of the hotel is superb. Most of the major attractions ( Piazza Venezia, Fontana di Trevi, Piazza di Spagna, Piazza del Popolo, Colosseo etc.) are on a walking distance even for the kids and Rome is the ideal city to wander around. In any case there is a taxi station opposite of the hotel, and of course buses and subway. Via Nazionale is a big street full of cafes, restaurants, and many many shops!!! The area is very safe so I definitely recommend this hotel as it is a real value for money.

We stayed in 4 star hotel for 1st 3 nights of our 7 night stay due to location for marathon and moved to giolli due to rooms not being available for 4 nights additional! Well that was a bonus! Great hotel, great location, clean, friendly staff! Cannot say enough about this place! Fantastic! Easy walking distance to collesium, shopping, trevi, Spanish steps and bit further for Vatican but all accessible on foot!!

We visited Rome in May last year and decided to stay at Giolli. The hotel is situated relatively close to the railway station - not more than 15-20 min walk away. The check in was smooth, the staff was great and we were in our room in quick time. Our room was comfortable and cozy
The breakfast was low on variety but nevertheless pretty good. Good wifi connectivity in the room was a plus.
The location is pretty good - We walked to the Trevi fountain which is pretty close by and on our way back managed to catch up the changing of the guard at the Presidential palace which comes along the way. There is a small restaurant called Dodo's a couple of blocks away - a great place to try out italian delicacies. The street will also give you the first sight of the majestic Colosseum which is about a half an hour walk away.

Special Mention for the staff - helped us with a valuable tip that prevented us from getting stranded at the airport (the airport doesnt open till about 4.30 AM). thanks!
