We had a wonderful stay of 4 nights in the Imperiale. Despite several very negative comments we decided to go for it and had a very pleasant time. Location: 10 minutes walk from Trevi Fountain and Spanish steps. A bit further from Colloseum, Pantheon and Vatican, but the metro will take you there in no time. Room: we had no. 195, which was spacious enough, bathroom a bit small, but I had similar size bathrooms in Greece. For American standards everything might be small, but for Europe this is normal. Jacuzzi was very nice after long days of walking. Fresh towels every day and everything clean. Beds comfortable and we had no problem with A/C, room was cool enough, though it was very warm outside! Staff: friendly and very helpfull, do not understand the other reviews about the rude staff at all. Are we talking about the same hotel? Breakfast: big variety of choice but I did not like it that much, coffee was horrible and the water for the tea was warm, not boiling hot. Fruit juice not recommandable either. The only thing I liked was the emmenthaler cheese!! So we had our breakfast twice just outside the hotel, turn left, in front of some stairs. The Bar: not very interesting, you might as well go elswhere. In the via Veneto are several restaurants and coffee places. Don't go to ristorante Barberini in the Via della Purificazione, what a disaster! It is behind the hotel. I would book this hotel again, definitely, although next time I would rather be near the Pantheon, the historical center. If you would not like your room I am sure that staff will do anything to give you another room!

Forgot to write review from last year when we stayed here. Booked again as we were impressed by location and the helpful friendly staff. All were still there- surprising for such a central hotel. Nothing too much trouble and whilst the bathroom was small, on holiday you don't spend very much time in your room. Yes some noise but hardly suprising given its ideal location; you expect noise and comings and goings in Capital City Hotels.
Breakfast Ok and Pavement restaurant we found delightful albeit so much choice around.
Fitness suite being installed in basement- no work took place at unsuitable hours.
Would go again

We were wanting a good 4 star hotel for 4 nights in Rome. This hotel was selected as it was on British Airways recommended list. We did not do any further homework on checking out the hotel which was a mistake.
The good points of the Hotel: excellent location which is important in Rome because traffic and subway are poor therefore on foot is the way to see most things. Good street restaurant (outside on pavement in glass covering). Staff were friendly.
Bad points: hotel is old -bedrooms are either street facing and noisy or back facing onto an internal courtyard. Bedrooms are smallish, unexciting decor and tired. Breakfast dining room is a pleasant room but breakfast is poor -watered down juice, no muesli, only tinned cubed fruit, only hot food was lumpy scrambled egg.

We've stayed at many hotels in Italy, and elsewhere in both the Americas and Europe. The Imperiale is nothing short of a complete disaster.

While it can be said that hospitality is not that good in Italy, the service at the Imperiale ranks as the worst in the country. They were rude, and not only did they lie about having a "technician" come to check our air conditioning which never worked properly in the 3 nights we were there, they overcharged us on a few things.

There was mold on the ceiling in the shower, which was totally disgusting.

The only positive points were the reasonably decent breakfast, the tourist-centric location, and the relatively large size of the room.

In hindsight, the Hotel Gambrinus is a far better hotel at a better price, and is only a short walk away.

In short, stay away from this hotel at all costs. Unfortunately, I didn't pay enough careful attention to the negative comments posted on tripadvisor. I consider it an expensive lesson and only hope not to make the same mistake again.

Of course this hotel is older, but extremely nice. The rooms were not huge, but clean, the beds very comfortable and the bath nice, as well. The hotel was quiet and the traffic not too noticeable. The staff was very helpful and the breakfast good, as well. It is very close to the Barbarini Metro stop which made getting around Rome a snap! Plus, the restaurants along Via Veneto are great! You can walk to the Borghese Gallery and Spanish Steps with no trouble. I would definitely stay in the hotel again if I wanted to stay in that area of Rome and need access to the Metro.

We had a room for four people and we got two bedrooms and one bath. The room was very nice. The aircondition could have been colder. The Hotel had a perfect location.

Forget soundproofing - you hear everyone walking past in the corridor. The hotel is clean and well cared for and the staff are helpful. The first rooms we were shown overlooked garbage bins and a/con machines. The second overlooked the inner courtyard ( ie a/con machines) and the main road ( a little noisy on the 1st floor). We were told there were no other rooms available. The next morning ( one room having had very little sleep) we were shown two alternative rooms on the 3rd floor. Lucky we shut the curtains otherwise we could have watched each other getting dressed across the courtyard. Again though, the rooms were clean and in good condition although quite basic. Breakfast was very unexciting. There is no internet connection here. When we asked we were told to go to the internet cafe down the road at the Piazza Barberini. This is not the best if you have to work at the same time as vacation.
The location is great for buses and metro.
I think the staff probably do their best but this is not a 4 star hotel as advertised by them.
