“Clean Simple Easy”
Reviewed 12 June 2013

We were after a cheap an cheery hotel near the stations and attractions for 4 nights in Rome, this hotel was fine, no its not 5 star, we stayed in the room for 5, 3 kids 9,12,13, my wife and I, cosy and simple but fine at this price point. Great breakfast, pizzeria's opposite great, stations (termini) and local not far. Walked to Colosseum. Staff very friendly and helpful with maps and directions. We basically got up, had breakfast, set off for the day, came back late, went for dinner then to bed, (4 days, same) so much to see and do.

Our room was dirty. There were many dead and live bugs in the bathroom. The sink and tub drains were so clogged that they did not even drain overnight. The next day the management moved us to another room for the remainder of our stay. (They would not/could not move us that night.) It was an improvement, but not enough to change my recommendation. The staff was not particularly friendly. The breakfast was less than ordinary. Much better value can be found elsewhere.

Can't recommend the hotel enough. Very well located, staff very polite and friendly. Rooms comfortable, everything worked, liked the addition of the hair dryer. Towels changed daily. Breakfast more than adequate. Would certainly stay there again.

Simple and cozy
The hotel is very well located, it is near the Trajan´s Forum and many other sights of Rome which can be visited on foot.
The rooms are clean and warm. People are friendly and always willing to help. Really worth staying there.

The rooms are extremely tiny, even though it was breakfast included it was only bread and coffee when asked about orange juice they brought me this red koolaid, they promoted free wifi, which was never working, it is located at a shady neighborhood and the worst was their service, front desk is horrible, will never stay there again.

Tirreno, Responsabile reception at Tirreno Hotel, responded to this review, 10 May 2013
Dear Mrs Quintero,
We are very sorry that your staying in our Hotel was so unpleasant.
Anyway advices of any kind are greatly appreciated.
The sizes of the rooms are indicative of the typical European three-star hotel and in this case specifically their historic origins, this is not yesterday’s just built Holiday Inn.
Furthermore your reservation was for a ROH (Run of House) that you've probably chosen for the discounted rate therefore the type of room is assigned at the arrival.
The continental breakfast includes: fresh croissants, bread, all kind of jams, nutella, biscuits, crackers, corn flakes, coffee, cappuccino, tea, hot chocolate and what you called Koolaid is red orange juice, very common here.
The free wifi is a TELECOM 20 mb DSL connection which works perfectly.
We apologize for any inconvenience we might have caused, we are currently monitoring all day the wifi status but when there are 50 people connected at the same time the network can get slower.
The hotel is safely and securely located in the heart of ancient Rome in the Rione Monti
Rione Monti won’t say anything to you but it’s the name of the shady neighborhood you mentioned, try to google it and you’ll realize what I’m talking about or take a simple look at the other reviews.
I have no comments about the worst service and the horrible front desk because it’s just the fitting end of an unfortunate review.
We’ll keep working to improve our services.
Thanks

The Felici family, which runs the Tirreno, makes sure the hotel lives up to their name (the name means "happy" in Italian). Several members of the family always seem to be around to tend to any need you might have, from calling a cab to a late-night espresso. One morning when I came down before the breakfast room was open because my party had an early departure, Mrs. Felini, the manager, invited me into the kitchen where she was baking cornette, then put a dozen warm into a bag for us to take on the train. Late another night, when we returned not quite ready for bed yet, the young guy manning the desk, Marco Felici, got out his guitar and sang Italian ballads for us. More like an inn than a hotel, it is clean, friendly, reasonably priced -- and the hot water doesn't run out. It is easy to see the effort the staff makes to keep everything just right. The location is superb for anyone using local transportation -- within easy reach of train, subway, and dozens of buses. You can quickly get anywhere in the city from there. It is also a short walk to many important sights. I have stayed at the Tirreno numerous times, and have always felt like a favored friend. I have no intention of staying anywhere else when in Rome.

Room Tip: Claudio Felici handles reservations. Tell him what you want and he will do his best to accommodate y...
