“Hotel Lirico - Great place at a great price”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 July 2014

My family and I stayed here for just over a week. The hotel itself is nothing special per se, but the staff make the place great! The rooms were small, but this is typical of the region. Despite the size, we were able to easily sleep all of us in the triple room. The taller people used the sofas, while the shorter used the beds. The beds were very stiff, and again, this is rather typical of the region. As it turned out, the sofa was actually fairly soft. The decor is a bit dated and all the walls are covered in a padded wall paper. The room itself on the third floor had plenty of light and both windows could be opened to allow in fresh air. Also, the AC unit worked VERY well. My kids wanted the room cold after walking around in 90+ degree Rome all day and the AC did not disappoint. The shower was okay, turns out that you need to get up early to get descent water pressure, but as we were early risers this was not too much of an issue.

Overall the rooms were fairly quiet, but our room only connected with one other room. When they used their shower, we could hear the sounds but that was about it. The rooms were very clean - no problems with any insects of any kind. The free WiFi was not great. Sometimes it was non-existent in the rooms, but seemed to always work in reception. After mentioning to the staff there was a WiFi problem, it was taken care of in minutes. However, even so, the reception in our room (316) was very poor. There was only one spot in the entire room (on the couch by the window) where we got full signal. Simply moving to a bed could lose the signal entirely!

The elevator is VERY small - only three people at a time and even then it can be a bit scary. Also, as many have already mentioned, the entrance is on the second level up about 35 stairs (no elevator to that level) so you need to carry your luggage. However, the desk staff is very willing to do this for you - even if you tell them you are fine. ;-)

Breakfast is okay as well. It is served from 7:30am - 10:00am. My kids absolutely LOVED the breakfast and I still don't quite know why. I found it to be adequate. I had pastries, ham and salami sandwiches each day as I am neither a fan of croissants nor cereal. Both of which the kids loved, so they must actually be good. Also, the fruit juices are WAY too strong. Mix them with about 75% cold water and it will taste about right. What food I did have at breakfast was tasty and filling.

The staff - simply amazing! These people deserve a five star rating. I've stayed at exclusive five star luxury hotels for work and the staff at this hotel rivals those at the luxury hotels. They are very friendly, speak many languages and can make absolutely fantastic dinner recommendations. They were also able to make suggestions on where I could get a massage after a long day of walking - btw: It was one of the best massages I've had. The staff is always there 24x7 to answer any question or to make something right. If not for the staff I would say this is just a three star hotel, but the staff really makes it something special.

The location is THE BEST! I've been to Rome a few times now... sometimes I have stayed outside the city and this time, with the kids, I wanted to be near the city center. Wow - just a fantastic location. Literally minutes from the main train station and metro lines (Termini) so no need for a cab from the airport, just take the train. It was easy walking distance to all of the main attractions including the Trevi Fountain, the Colosseum, shopping, dining, literally two blocks from the national museum, a few blocks from the Republic Plaza and about four blocks from the main metro lines. We were easily able to get to Vatican City, the Crypts, pretty much everywhere. The area is also VERY safe. I was able to walk dark alleys at night without any fear.

I highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling with kids or just plain anyone who is looking for a great hotel at a great price in a great location.

Room Tip: Try to avoid 3rd floor to get better WiFi.

Amazing price for being so close to all the sights in Central Rome. Close walking distance (5 minutes) to the railway station and then within easy walking distance to 'Trevi fountain', ' republicca vittoria' 'pantheon' & piazza novonna' .

We only had a stopover in the city flying in late afternoon and leaving back for the airport at 12:30pm but with getting up slightly earlier (leaving our hotel at 8:30am) we were able to see all these special places with ease.

We have stayed here before and this second time around was even better. The room given us ( an upgrade) was clean spacious and perfect in every way. It is across the street to a mini mart and there are superb restaurants close by. Do you research on TA and be cautious of recommendations given by the staff. Check them out yourself before going!!!

The only down side to this hotel, is the steps leading up to the reception. If you have mobility issues, this is not the hotel for you. They are dangerously steep and narrow steps when carrying a suitcase or just getting up yourself.

The breakfast is adequate although not exciting. This didn't worry us as we didn't want much anyway. The breakfast room is also extremely tiny, uncomfortable even, if there are a lot of people eating at the same time.

If we ever return to Rome, we would have no hesitations in staying back at 'hotel Lirico' a great little gem at a very affordable price.

My husband and I stayed in Hotel Lirico June 25 - 28, 2014. It is a great small hotel within walking distance to many of the historical sights in Rome. The front desk staff were extremely helpful in answering our questions. They gave excellent advice as to the best metro station to take to get to the Vatican (Repubblica train station). There are stairs to get from the front door to reception but the front desk staff are willing to help you with your bags. We were in room 207 which has a great view of the Opera House. The rooms are very quiet and clean. The bed mattresses are very firm but I think this is the norm in Europe. I liked the breakfast that came with it. There was a very nice assortment of meats, cheeses, bakery items, cereal and muesli and two different juices. They make an excellent cappuccino! I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Room 207 overlooks the Opera House. Great view!

Staff helpful. Gave good restaurant recommendation. Gave maps and advice. Great location. Breakfast was included in our room price and had nice meats, cheeses, breads and muesli. It was solid, ethical business in a city which is better known for the opposite. Rooms were very quiet. The opera had a performance (which we didn't attend), but the patrons were dressed nicely (and police presence) kept the gypsies/panhandlers away. When I mentioned "trip advisor" to the staff, they smiled and were very aware to give excellent service.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the opera

Stayed in Hotel Lirico June 15-19, 2014.
Location is excellent between 2 metro stations and walking distance to everywhere in historical part of Rome. There are plenty of restaurants and convenience stores in the area.
Nice small hotel, beautiful spacious room 206 with the Opera view. Absolutely no noise from the street.very clean. It would be great to have a small fridge in order to keep a water cold for the hot day, it's only one thing I would complain.
Food was always fresh and constantly refilled. Selection was very good.Coffee/cappuccino/tea was served right away.
All hotel staff is very nice and Tony at front desk is exceptional!

Highly recommend the hotel and would definitely return next time in Rome!

There are pros and cons for Hotel Lyrico. First the pros. You can easily reach Hotel Lyrico from Leonardo da Vinci airport in Fiumicino by taking the train to the Termini station, and then walking about 15 minutes. Check the hotel's website "location" tab and you will see how. Upon arriving at Hotel Lyrico, we groaned, because there before us was a flight of steps to the second floor where the reception desk is located. However, somehow out of nowhere, a luggage man appeared to help us up the steep steps with our bags and we were directed to an elevator to take us up to our third floor room. Rooms are spacious, clean, and quiet. Plugs for charging phones/cameras/laptops seemed to be confined to the bathrooms. The BIG plus for Hotel Lyrico is that they have a luggage room. We were able to leave a couple of suitcases in storage while we spent a few days in Pisa, Florence, Venice, and Ravenna. It is Venice where you want next to no luggage, because you will have to haul it to your hotel up and down steps on bridges. The downside of Hotel Lyrico is their recommendation of a restaurant down the street if you ask for their suggestion of where to eat. Don't be tempted by the complimentary drinks! Your evening meal will end up costing you over $100 USD for two because of hidden charges. Don't get suckered in!

Dear customer,
First of all I would like to thank you for having stayed in our hotel and, as we understand from his positive review, to have found a good service.
We are really sorry for the inconvenience you have had with the restaurant, but we want to let you know that it is no restaurant which have special relationships with, and if you signaled us the name of the restaurant we will avoid recommending it to other customers.
On this occasion I wish you all the best while waiting for her again as our welcome guest.

The location was great, 5 minutes from the bus station/termini station. The street was full of lovely restaurants however there was a lot of rubbish/grafitti in the area. Tony the receptionist was brilliant! He gave out very good recommendations for places to eat/drink. The rooms were really clean and a good size, however we had room 216 and had a few issues with the lock on the door which they were quick to fix. Breakfast left a lot to be desired, the first day we had stale produce and there was a lack of range of fruit! Overall though we would go back it was good value for money, however there did not seem to be any other British people staying in this area.

Dear guest,

First of all, I wanted to thank you for taking the time to write your positive review about our hotel. We are happy that our staff was ready to meet your needs and that the room was good. In reference to the breakfast, we believe it is of good quality since we offer daily fresh fruit, and not canned fruit, also croissants, sweet pastries, 8 types of yogurt, but also salty foods like salami, ham, cheese and eggs make our breakfast something more than the standard .... but you can always improve.

In addition, the English and Usa customers, it is perhaps our greatest number of guests .... maybe stayed with us during the week where there 'was some group of other nationalities.

Waiting to welcome our guest to have you again, we wish you all the very best to you and your family.
