First visit to Rome and Duca D'Alba selected after much research. It couldn't be faulted! Conversion of historical building in lively Monti with many restaurants and cafes in area. Walking distance to all major sites but with the added convenience of metro stop 300 meters from hotel. Spotlessly clean, good breakfast but the highlight for me were the staff. Every staff member whether reception, restaurant or cleaning helpful and cheerful at all times. The reception team was standout and all genuinely friendly despite, I'm sure, being asked the same 'touristy' questions ad nauseam!! A couple of pre-arrival email questions were answered within hours and during stay they were always ready to help and advise. Annex rooms in the building adjacent to main hotel are spacious and quiet. A thoroughly enjoyable time at a hotel I cannot recommend highly enough

Room Tip: Annex rooms are brilliant

Dear Guest,
Your wonderful review is so perfect that we can add nothing to your description of the building, of our staff, our peculiar location in one of the most beautiful areas of the "old" Rome, a few steps from the massive Coliseum, the huge Forum or the small Fontana dei Catecumeni, a gem in the lovely Piazzetta della Madonna dei Monti. We can add nothing to the feedback you share here about our Annexes: private apartments disconnected from -but very near to- the main Hotel, they are hosted in typical buildings of the heart of the city and allow our Guests that sweet "local feel" that turns their holiday into a true roman experience.
Thank you for recommending Hotel Duca d'Alba, should you ever come back, please.. book directly to our official website or contact us by e-mail: as you know, our Staff promptly answer any questions.
Warmest Regards,
R. Giorgi

We stayed in this hotel for 4 days... It's in a good location & the hotel is lovely and it's clean! Downside... Our room was TINY ... Tiny tiny, but fine, definitely the smallest hotel room possible but still had everything we needed! The brekkie was great :)

Dear Vicky D,
We thank you for spending four days in Rome with us and thank you for appreciating the location, the cleanliness, the atmosphere, our top breakfast., As we use to remind any follower on Tripadvisor, Hotel Duca D'Alba is a small hotel in an old, historical building of a prestigious area in the historical center of Rome; our 27 rooms have been sorted out of a project licensed by the Authorities and they range from small to large double, to superior rooms and Junior Suite. Each of them offers the comforts any Guests may need; in a very busy time in Rome, you had a double room in proportion to your request and we thank you for pointing out that this did not spoil the quality of your holiday.
We'll be happy to help you choose the best solution for your needs in your next trip to Rome, please book directly to our offical website or by e-mail to our booking dept.
Best Regards,

Such a lovely place to stay. After 23 hours to get here from our home in Thailand it was everything we could have wanted. The staff were lovely and the room, though small was very, very sweet. We were very happy here.

The Breakfast was absolutely fantastic.

Dear mutmee,
we are proud we gave relief to the tiredness you felt for the very long trip and happy you chose Hotel Duca d'Alba. We are a small hotel located in a historical Palace in the Heart of one of the most typical areas in Rome, the popular "Rione Monti", a few hundred meters far from Colosseum and some steps away from the small, amazing, lovely Piazzetta della Madonna dei Monti (a hidden gem) and its beautiful fountain. The labyrinth os small alleys invites to get lost. In such a "set", our rooms are shelter to our Guests and even if they could be felt small (not all of them anyway, we range from small to large) they are elegant, comfortable and very clean.
We would be happy to welcome you back, please reserve directly at our official website or contact us by e-mail.
Warmest Regards,

I stayed for three nights in March and loved the hotel. The location is excellent - a vibrant little backstreet 5 mins from the Colosseum with lots of good restaurants. The staff were great at recommending where to eat and booking tables. I suspect it might be a bit noisy staying at the front of the hotel, but where we were in the Annex it was very quiet, though this was at the cost of a view (our window was a few feet from the next building). Couple of small qualms that might bother some people - there was no bath and the shower was next to the bathroom rather than in the bathroom, which was a little odd, and it took three keys to get to our room so there was no way of one of us going up to the room earlier than the other, but all in all a great place for a tourist staying a few nights.

Dear Guest,
thanks for the time you spent writing your comment. We are glad to know that you liked our rooms in the Annex building, as you could see they are renewed. Many of them overlooks an internal courtyard but this is written on our website and in all our website, so if you rather prefere to have an external room you should have requested it at the time of booking or at the arrival day and we would assign another kind of rooms.
The ones we facing the street are not noisy because those rooms have double glassed windows, next time please kindly ask and we will be glad to meet your needs according to our the availability of the moment.
Your room had the shower next to the bathroom door, just because we are in the historical centre of Rome and all these are ancient buildings not born as hotel, so we had to use the spaces we had to accommodate all services and comforts as the municipality do not allow anybody to touch the walls of the building, this is an historical and protected area. In any case that one is the only room with this distinction.
The reason why for the rooms in Annex building you have only 1 bunch of keys is for security as the other building does not belong to us, we have 8 rooms there but all the other are private owners apartments, so we perfere to deliver only one bunch each room. But there is no problem as the reception is opened 24 hours and upon arrival all guests are asked to leave the keys at the reception and if one person goes up earlier, they find the keys here. You probably had this problem because you used to bring the keys with you, but we always tell upon arrival to leave at the Reception the keys every time you go out.
Thanks for appreciating our exceptional location and our neighborhood that is very nice and lively.
Next time please book directly with us by e-mail or by our official website and write a remark with all your needs.
Kind regards

Hotel duca d'alba bills itself as a four star hotel with many amenities. While they do deliver what they say they do, we were a little underwhelmed. First the pros - this hotel is in an area of Rome near the Coliseum (convenient) though it seems to be popular with younger travelers (a little loud, though the noise did not reach our room as much as I feared it would). The included breakfast is very good and plentiful, and coffee is included. There is a 24h concierge, which was nice. However, our view was the side of another building about 2 yards away. The hallway can't accommodate 2 people walking side by side. The decor is not in that great shape, and while the room is cleaned every day, I found several hairs on my bed and stains on the coverlet. The room is TINY - there wasn't enough space to lay flat/open up all of our 3 carry on sized suitcases at the same time unless we used the floor, in which case we couldn't walk easily from the bed to the bathroom. We could easily hear noise from other rooms, and there was a vent from our room leading directly into the hallway. You are required to turn your key in to the front desk every time you leave the hotel, which made me very nervous as anyone could just come in and ask for your room number and get your key. Overall, not a bad place, but not the 4 star experience I was expecting.

Dear Guest
I carefully read your comment and was quite surprised of some things that you wrote down because as you can read from most of the other reviews, we always leave good impressions
regarding all our services.
Thanks for appreciating our wonderfull location, in the centre of Rome at walking distance from the major most famous sites, our nice and lively neighborhood, our breakfast proposing a rich buffet from cold and hot dishes, and our 24hour concierge services.
For your comment regarding the hallway and, probably, your room, I already pointed our in many replies that the hotel is located in a Historical building in a protected area, so we can accomodate the services in the spaces that we have but the municipality do not allow anybody to touch the walls of the building in this area. In any case we also have Superior room that are a little larger, next time please ask at the Reception desk and they will be glad to show you other kind of rooms.
Regading the cleanings, I am really sorru to read that because covers and sheets are changed daily so we thing that probably the hairs you found belongs to you, we are sorry for that, you could call and show us and we would provide immediately to rechange the covers again.
We prefere that our guests leave the keys at the reception desk when you our outside, it's for sercurity reasons, we know that you are out and when the guest is back tells us the room number and we give the key back, so we know that you are in. In this way we are sure that no thieves from outside can have access to your room, it's for your and our security.
In any case we really hope that you will come back again to give us the opportunity to show you the other kind of accommodation more comfortable that we have.
Please send us an e-mail or look into our official website for our specil offers.
Kind regards
