This hotel is quite unique in its style and feel. It was initially disappointing not to have a window in the room that overlooked anything and it was very dark, with dark fabric wall coverings, however it was very nicely furnished, clean and very comfortable. the staff were all friendly and very helpful, and the breakfast had good choices. The location of the hotel is great and quite close to the termini and good restaurants. The colosseum and old forum are close by and we found that we could walk most places , including the Pantheon. There is a really nice little fountain around the back of the hotel that appeared to be a bit of a meeting place , great for a cold beer at the end of the day with a relaxing atmosphere. I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: If you want a window that actually lets any light in or has any view you will probably need to reque...

Dear Jan S,
Thank you for reconfirming our good breakfast, friendly staff and the perfect location: if you search for proximity to most must-see places and a lively neighbourhood, Duca d'Alba is your ideal choice: alleys, small squares, restaurants, cafés, pubs and the Monuments watching people go by..
It is very clear now that Duca d'Alba Hotel is located in an old small palace adjoining to similar buildings in a very old part of Rome, the architecture distinguishes in lines of facades watching the street and an odd game of inside courts comes alive behind; our rooms could face the streets or the inside courts. Each room, in the main building or in the Annexes, offers its own mood and style and all of them are very modern, clean and elegant, ranging from bright light colours to darker, elegant tonalities enlightened by refined accessories.
We thank you for recommending Duca d'Alba hotel and please do no t hesitate to contact us for your next booking but also please visit our official website where you would find the best rates available only there.

Railbookers arranged our rail travel in Italy, and reserved 3 nights for my family (of four) at this quaint, delightful hotel in early July. As other reviewers have commented, it is located near the Colosseum, and within walking distance to other historical sites. A pleasant discovery was how close the hotel was to San Pietro in Vincoli (St. Peter in Chains) – which I recommend you visit (especially if you are a Michelangelo aficionado). The hotel’s front staff was very friendly and accommodating; helping us navigate our way to eateries, and even directing us to a nearby laundromat that washed/dried our clothes for the same price if we had done them ourselves. My wife and I stayed in one room, and our two (young adult) kids in an adjacent room. These rooms were quiet and cozy, and each had a charming outdoor terrace that somewhat camouflaged the fact that your view was obscured by the side of a building. We loved it! The complimentary breakfast was excellent, and the free wifi worked well for us. A special treat awaited hotel guests in late afternoons: a self-serve pitcher of refreshing peach ice tea on the bar counter. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Dear Zaynez,
we are happy you were not disappointed by your bookers' choice, we are a family-friendly hotel, although we may say we are a friendly hotel to any situation, except goups: we chose not to welcome groups because we are a small hotel and prefer to protect the quiet and charming situation you appreciated, so relax in your rooms -nice and modern, clean and supplied with anything you may need- enjoy the small snuggles (our tea is home made and a small lounge bar awaits you back from long walks) and then live Rome, Arts and History, and enjoy the opportunity to share lively the atmosphere in the streets, among nice restaurants, shops, home-made ice cream labs (and whatever you can imagine) with the Romans and
Visitors from every corner of the world.
You quote San Pietro in Vincoli, a gem, thank you but we could spend hours telling about amazing sites located within a range of 1 km from the door, not only the Colosseum but the Forum, the beautiful Madonna dei Monti, a church and a lovely square, the popular fascinating alleys of the Monti Area, the Oppian Hill where the great Nero's Domus Aurea is located.. Come and see..
We thank you for your review and would be happy to welcome you back, please find the best rates in our official website and contact us directly.

This is a lovely hotel and it does deserve the very good reviews.

We stayed in a twin room which was lovely and yes it was small but it served us ok as we were there to see the sights not the hotel room. The view was a downside and looked out onto and internal area so all we could see was walls so no view at all, but it did mean it was quiet. I did actually email the hotel and ask for a road view as we would have enjoyed seeing people go past but this did not happen. The other thing about the room was the single beds were tiny and made me feel slightly uneasy. The air con though was great and it was very hot when we were there.

The breakfast is not the best I have had but is ok with a fair choice.

The very best thing about this hotel is the location. We walked everywhere from there and it was brilliant!! There are lovely restaurants and a great wine bar all around the hotel. Even thought I know another reviewer commented on the safety on a back street it really did feel completely safe and you just need to take the same precautions with bags etc like any big city. We caught a bus direct from the airport, there is a desk in arrivals, got straight on the bus to Termini for 3.90E each and then caught the metro which is next door to Cavour and you can see the hotel from this stop. It is so easy and we were in Termini about 9pm and felt completely fine.

The staff were very friendly and helpful.

If you want to explore this is a great place to stay.

Dear betterholmes,
We wish to thank you for writing good things about Duca d'Alba Hotel: as stated in some previous replies to Guests' reviews, the old small palace where we are are is part of a block where units wedge in, this is typical of an ancient city center, some windows face the street some the courts inside, this could be charming; you asked for a room facing the street, we are sorry we could not give you because not available and for the tiny bed, well, we have regular size single beds (and some smaller one for family rooms with young children), we could have tried to help you some way if we had known.
Thank you for reconfirming the great location, you can step on ancient streets, turn around ancient corners and live the arts, Archaeology or the modern Rome surrounding the Hotel.
Dear betterholmes, we do appreciate very much your report about safety, we explained already exactly what you say: just take care of yourself and of your stuff like in any other big city.
The way you got to Duca d'Alba from the Airport is just one of the many options anybody can enjoy, from a few euros by bus to more comfortable private transfers: our Staff is ready to give any information before our Guests' arrival, just ask.
..and if you plan to come again, please go to our official website to choose the ideal solution for you or... just ask, we're here.

Spent 3 nights here late June. Not far from railway station or metro. Once there given a lovely room with a little outside terrace, really nice! Not a huge room but very clean and we had quite good wifi reception in our room, A very central location. Coliseum only 10 mins walk away and very close to Forum too! We walked to all the main attractions from here. Great breakfast and very helpful staff, we will definitely return again and can highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for one with the outside terrace!

Cannot fault the staff or the rooms or the hotel in general! Varied selection for breakfast too! Really close to most tourist attractions! Definitely worth it!
However, don't rely on the room wifi! Although it does work in the main lobby!

Dear Kirst W,
We are grateful for the very positive feedback about our Staff, breakfast, location and rooms. We regret your satisfaction was reduced by the problems with the wi-fi that, as we stated when replying to different reviews, is widespread and efficient: whilst a fall in service can happen, we promptly work to fix it if depending on a problem inside. We wish to reassure that wi-fi is very good and reliable, available everywhere.
Thank you for you very good score and, should you ever plan to come back, please book online: you will find the best rates in our website directly.

We just returned last night after staying 2 nights in this hotel and I will start by saying that we often stay at luxury 4-5* chain hotels (Marriott, Renaissance, Radisson Blu, Le Meridien...) and that my review is based on the experiences at those kind of hotels.
After researching Rome hotels for hours we decided NOT to pay the over-the-top prices that the big chains charge in this city. So we looked for something that offered a combination of good location, decent price, comfy, clean bed and decent breakfast. I must say that we found it all in this hotel!

The room : after reading all the reviews we expected something really small but I found the room size very reasonable and definitely not cramped at all like some people say (we had room A3 in the annexe). It was clean ( a little bit rough around the edges but ok), the bed was hard but very comfy (despite having 2 separate mattresses) and the AC worked perfectly (we have had 5* hotels rooms were the AC hardly worked!) and it was a bliss to be able to sleep in a cool room after days of walking and sweating in the heat.
The bathroom was quiet large, slighly dated (and with some black mold on the walls) and with a large walk-in shower. Toiletries were provided but of a low quality so I was glad that I brought my own. Room decor was nice and the room was wonderfully quiet at night despite being in a central and lively location.

Speaking about location : It was perfect, we walked everywhere, including to the Vatican (30min walk).
The Spanish steps, Trevi, Pantheon and Colosseum are all within 1km so you can't have a better location! We were very glad that we didn't pick a hotel near the Termini station! The area is also full of small, little cosy bars and restaurants that are frequented by many locals so you won't pay tourist prices around here!

If you arrive from Fiumicino airport, I recommend everyone to take the local train to Ostiense and take the metro from there for 4 stops to Cavour (50m from the hotel). This way it will only take you 50 minutes to get to the hotel from the airport. Very convenient!

The staff: Reception staff was friendly, not over-the-top but ok. Breakfast staff was lovely. They served nice capuccinos and were very customer-oriented! Breakfast itself was ok, I must admit that we expected a bit more after reading some of the reviews. They did lovely fresh scrambled eggs, had nice bacon but unfortunately the bread rolls were very hard and chewy (luckily I still have all my teeth :-)) with no whole weat option. We were also VERY surprised to find no Nutella... I was also put off a bit by the fact that the sliced meats and cheeses were not being kept refrigerated (resulting in sweaty cheese and warm ham, this can be dangerous in summer!) Furhermore it was all very decent, perfectly fine for a few days but as I said before, we expected more (I guess we are just spoilt...)

Wifi worked quiet good and was free, just like it should be!

Everything together I would say that the hotel was definitely value for money (if you don't pay more than 100€ per room/night) and I am confident that it was the best deal we could get for our money if you consider the quality of the room, comfort and location.

Dear Delectatio,
We thank you for acknowleding that you review Duca d'Alba Hotel starting from your previous experiences at deeply different accomodations: your confession will help other travellers to read your feedback the right way but you are very circumstancial, it will be easy for everyone.
You found at Duca d'Alba the intimate but comfortable situation you chose to enjoy instead of the big chains and we are happy, we are happy to read about appreciating larger rooms seldom quoted in other feedbacks.
Not only in our Annexes (allocations -nice and elegant- in two very close private and distinguished roman condominiums in Monti, a prestigious although "popular" area), our rooms are very comfortable and modern, those facing the street are well protected from noises by double windows, double glass each.
We are sorry you did not like the quality of our toiletry, this could pertain to personal taste.
Also sorry for your disappointment about breakfast, the food we offer every day is fresh and selected, daily prepared with care by experienced Staff: you are right about the risks of food getting rotten in summer but this could not happen to food re-filled more times in three hours in a cooled place like our breakfast room. Thank you for appreciating all the rest, Staff included, they take care of our Guests and their teeth, bread comes from a local artisan bakery and bread in Italy is a "must", the choice is so wide that you could find yourself tasting a new kind of roll thinking it is strange or not fresh because soft, not chewy. Nutella is another "must" but there is many "musts" in Italy, like mozzarella, speck ham, bruschetta, those and more we have e have, we cannot offer some of everything.
We love to think about ourselves, thanks to many Guests' reviews, as of more than a decent solution in an intimate building, the Ancient Rome beneath the floor, the modern comforts in our rooms, the warmth of a Family to embrace our Friends.
We regret you felt spoilt, this is not what we wish our Guests to feel exactly and the greatest pleasure would be to welcome you back with the right mood balanced with the Duca d'Alba Hotel, a true 4 stars Hotel in a city among the top destinations in world tourism.
Thank you for the high score.

this was our last hotel within our two week stay in Italy and we were so happy we researched it and chose to stay here. Location is key in Rome, as walking is key to touring. Our small neo classic room on the third floor over looked a small city street which provided us great people watching. It was close to the trains which made lugging suitcases easy. Breakfast was the best at this hotel from all the others we stayed at throughout Italy. Eggs, waffles and the best prosciutto filled croissants. Wonderful little Italian treats like sardines and mozzarella balls.
would stay here again. The front of the house staff was so accommodating and provided excellent restaurant recommendations. They even took our map and planned out our day, which I treasure and part of my Italy photo album. Conveniently located next to the best place for hand filled cannoli's.

Room Tip: ask for a room over looking a city street

Thank you very much, michele w, for using a beautiful word in your review's headline.
You write exactly what we are: a small cozy Hotel in a historical building with rooms for any categories and needs, each of them very intimate, very clean and very modern. We are located in a peculiar, nice alley in the heart of the Monti Area, a big district area also embracing some distant areas that are officially listed in Monti but are really far from the "essence" of it. The street where we are is lively and many people stroll there and sit to enjoy a coffe, an ice cream, some very good "cannoli". You loved the sounds coming from outside but, for those who don't, our double glass double windows grant silence in their rooms.
Be aware anyway that when you book a room at Duca d'Alba Hotel you are booking a location in the core of Rome: you can walk anywhere or jump on a bus or take the Metro 80m from the Hotel to reach your destinations.
Thank you for appreciating our helpful Staff (our Guests' Family..) and breakfast and the very fresh and local ingredients, our offer is wide enough to satisty any taste.
We would be happy to welcome you back, you could find the most interesting benefits in our official website and we would be ready to help you to choose.
