“Hotel Clodio in the off season”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 October 2013

So we arrived early and they were busy. We were able to store our lugage and come back. We strolled up and down the street and there were lots of shops and a few pizza places. I did not feel as safe as I had in other parts of Rome. I was there for 2 weeks and gypsies were most popular in this area. Once Hotel knew it was our honeymoon, they sent a bottle of wine. Very nice touch.
With a lot of one way streets, if you wanted a cab ride to a resturant 10 min away, it was almost double due to traffic in the 730pm time frame (rush hour). Coming home, no traffic, 10 Euro. The staff was good to us, however we scheduled a trip to the vatican from the front desk and there was some confusion. In hind sight I should have gone down stairs and pointed, but he spoke English on the phone, so I thought I was safe. Wrong price, wrong time, wrong package, however due to an unexpected early phone call from the front desk; we were able to make the excurision and it all worked out. We got one of the two delux rooms with balcony, however it was a shared balcony. Since I was on my honeymoon, I assumed a wall would separate, not a line of bushes. Also across from a childrens school. Saw the ganitor around 830pm closing windows. Glad we werent doing anything romantic. The decor was nice. modern in the room, old world in the lobby. Front desk was helpful with airport transport/cab services. Breakfast was delicious with pastries, meats and cheeses. Wifi was spotty, but thats not the hotels issue, I think it was like that everywhere. Overall They were friendly in an ok area. Bus station was down the road, however we did not use.

I am prompted to write this by the comment made by a recent reviewer that Hotel Clodio is "Good hotel, nice location."

I have just spent two nights there, and I can agree that this is a good, decent hotel with a quiet, sedate atmosphere, perhaps suitable to mature visitors. My room was of a good size, tastefully furnished, very clean, with a mini bar, a multi-channel TV (including BBC and CNN), free wi-fi connection, etc. The breakfast was reasonable.

But "nice location"? You will not find Via di Santa Lucia, where the hotel is located, on most tourist maps of Rome. It is in a drab, suburban residential area, where several bus routes terminate, with a smattering of cafes, pizza shops, etc. In order to get to most tourist spots, you first have to take a bus and then change to Metro. From Fiumicino airport I had to take a taxi to the hotel, which took nearly an hour and cost about 65 euros. ( From Fiumicino to central Rome there is the fixed rate of 48 euros.)

If you have a special reason to stay in this part of Rome, Hotel Clodio is a good choice. But if you are in Rome for sightseeing, choose somewhere more central and convenient.

Good hotel, nice location. Can walk to St. Peter's Basilica. Lots of old world charm and excellent front desk staff, Vincent very personable and helpful. Nice rooftop terrace to relax in and good breakfast buffet. Good bathroom and AC. Only negative is very hard beds.

I stayed there for 3 nights in September 2013. The room was spacious and neat. Staff were generally quite helpful and breakfast was good. Wifi was ok, although not very reliable. I enjoyed my stay there.

We stayed in the Deluxe double for three nights on a summer weekend while attending concerts and wandering Rome. The reception was generally welcome and helpful, the breakfast buffet was fairly good and diverse, and the rooms were clean and big enough (this is not an American hotel, big enough means enough room for a couple to wander about and spread out, not to have a dance party of 8).

Facilities were clean, well run and comfortable. The AC in our room was weak, but good enough, those desiring an Arctic gale would be advised to double-check with the desk or look elsewhere.

Cab to Trastavere ~€20, nearby bus station to most places within 200m. Walk to the Olympic Stadium was fairly easy and short.

I'd say the price was high, except it's Rome, in tourist season, so by that standard, our prepaid reservation was cheap!

In short, I was happy enough. It'd be hard to do better and easy to do worse.

We stayed at this hotel some years ago as part of a package tour of Rome.

The hotel seemed quite nice, it is located near a bus station from which the the sites of Rome can be easily reached and there was a nice little trattoria nearby in which to have dinner.

So when we needed a hotel in Rome prior to taking a cruise from Civitavecchia. I was happy to book with them again. I made the booking using the hotel website and received an email titled "Voucher No. xxxxxxx" confirming my booking

I then received what appeared to be a duplicate email with the same heading and, stupidly, assumed that their system had simply sent the email twice, but it turned out that the second email was to say that there had been a problem with my credit card (I never did find out why) and that if I did not contact them they would cancel my booking.

Not realising that there was a problem and assuming that we had a reservation, because we had a voucher saying so, I did nothing until the night before we were due to travel to Rome, when I emailed the hotel to confirm my time of arrival. To my horror, they emailed back to say that my reservation had been cancelled because I had not replied to the second email and that the hotel was now full.

It was just as well that we found this out before we travelled, otherwise we would have been faced with arriving at the hotel late at night to find we had no room but, as it was, I had to try to find accommodation at the last minute. Don't let anyone fool you that this is cheap - it actually cost me more than 3 times the price of the original booking!

I realise that I am partly to blame for this, because I did not read their 2nd email properly but I did have a voucher for a confirmed reservation and I feel very strongly that they should have sent me another email telling me that it had been cancelled rather than leaving me to find this out by chance at the last minute.

Room Tip: Don't try to be clever, book your hotel through one of the booking agencies and then you might a...

We stayed at Hotel Clodio from 19th-22nd June 2013. We were attending a concert at the Olympic Stadium so the location was perfect for us. After reading other reviews, we were not sure what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised with the hotel. Loved the area, room and bathroom excellent, breakfast very good, friendly and helpful staff. We enjoy walking so it was not a problem for us to walk to most of the major sights, but there were bus and metro fairly nearby if necessary.
The only thing we wish we had done differently was to have stayed a bit longer - we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: We had a room with bath located near the elevator and it was very quiet indeed (4th floor)
