I am going to list some of my issues and then how they helped rectify.
After some difficulty finding the hotel, based on walking directions posted (numbering and streets signs are not plentiful in Italy), we checked in and were nicely greeted, however when we got to our rooms, ready for their free beverages, ours were luke warm, our sink was stopped up and our phone did not work. We rented two rooms and our other room, the blowdryer did not work. The next day, our toilet would not stop running water. It was not a great first impression to have to call a few times and sometimes more than once.
We also got a bit frustrated when we were told we could get a cab to the airport with a credit card. We were trying not to have Euro on us due to being from U.S and only had $47 which was just shy. I asked if they could just charge me $5 more to my bill, since we were in the midst of paying for our rooms and give it to me in cash. They said no. However, after 15 minute wait and tight on time, were told no one would get us with credit card, so I would have to get ATM withdrawal down the street. So, ended up with an extra $5 fee, foreign exchange fee, etc.
In our second room, we had some very noisy nieghbors so my daugther called down twice and no one came to the door and she did not hear phone ring, since she could hear their entire conversation, she would know if phone rang, so in her opinion, they ignored it or had an issue understanding her.
However, I was willing to give them another chance since we were there 4 days and it really is a nice place overall and they were very hospitable.
True to the reviews written, they do know a thing or two about customer service, we might have just been an isolated incident. They were very helpful with directions, restaurant recommendations, when to get cab vs walking, etc.
Rooms were very quiet, slept well and were clean/nice. They have a fabulous breakfast, as others have mentioned. It was the most plentiful of all the places we stayed.
All in all, their customer service shined through and helped to drive a stronger rating, even given my issues. When we forgot an item in our room, they found it and mailed it to us internationally free of charge - very, very nice gesture and that alone, makes me want to try them again.
